Goddamn I'm so excited for that Transformers game now that IGN has up some gameplay footage. I was feeling really down on a lot of stuff this year, but there are going to be some great gems coming soon. Most announcements were slated for late 2015, early 2016 right?

Ive been trying to stay levelheaded about this game in case its a bummer but goddamnit LOOK AT THAT SHIT!

Im surprised his answer wasn't "bad reviews", but is that even true? Bad reviews dont mean poor sales. Id like to think the market would correct itself. In theory, everyone burned by games like AC unity and battlefield would avoid them in the future, but thats not the case.

CAR COMBOS

Watching the interview, it looks like switching into vehicle mode is important to build up some damage (there's a "fully revved" system).

Also you can play as Grimlock.

Last night was fucking professional as fuck. I enjoyed it.

Giant Bomb have plenty of time to do dumb shit, sometimes it's nice to get a bit of information and interesting chat out of important people.

Agreed! I was actually shocked. Outside of the pointless firewatch guest set, the discussions were engaging and insightful.

yeah the Firewatch part is rough, when they all just started giggling and interrupting each other it reminded me why I stopped listening to Idle Thumbs

I couldn't get into Idle Thumbs as a podcast, but that was a great segment with Jeff directing the conversation.

Personally could have done without the interruption, but he rolled with it well.

That's kinda why I like Idle Thumbs but yea it is annoying when they derail even the simplest conversation like when Danielle is trying to talk about a game and she is often the only one who actually played a video game that week.

well he was born lucky

wait no it's luckey, joke doesn't work

any word on if they're doing another documentary style video like the previous two years?

them doing the wrap-ups as live videos on the set now and have a podcast feed to talk about games they saw doesn't really fill me with confidence, but they haven't outright said no

Same. I love how "through the looking glass" they get over the stupidest things. The Idle Thumbs Incursion Era was my personal favourite and it's so good hearing Steve again.

I'm 32 and I don't think I'll ever be a millionaire and that's fine with me. I just want to own a house someday.

me too. I don't care if I do anything important in the grand scheme of things. if I can be comfortable and happy and do the things I want to do, that's all I need. the world needs Palmer Luckeys, but I'm not one of them.

I don't think what you mentioned lessens to chance of a documentary-style video, really. They've always done one in the past, and I would be surprised if they don't do one this year too. Drew seems to really like doing that stuff. They did wrap-ups on the set last year too IIRC, we still got a documentary.

Just getting to the last couple segmants of last nights show. I'm kind of bummed Tacoma will still be less puzzley and gamey. I love Gone Home, don't get me wrong, but when I saw Tacoma I was kind of hoping for more of a game.

Looks more like "Alright, that's on you buddy" to me.
That's just such a great gif, I know it wasn't quite that harsh in context but still

Yea, in context the line of questioning wasn't quite what most expect that .gif to represent, but Phil's response of "let's separate MCC for a moment" was chuckle worthy regardless.

The VR talk was great. I knew VR would benefit traditional adventure games (the less actiony point & click type) and I'm glad to hear that kind of game is finding a good platform for it.

Ya that was really great, surprising to hear there a less and less FPS games. I didn't realize that motion-sickness was that widespread. I still can't really imagine how a third person shooter would work, still havent tried a VR system yet.

I was a bit disappointed in the answers the Just Cause 3 dude was giving. Jeff was asking some really good questions, like how the multiplayer mod influenced the design, and how do you reel back the craziness so you don't become too overpowered. Dude didn't really seem to be interested in a serious interview.

Seems like if he even wanted to answer the Firewatch guys or Steve Gaynor would interrupt and say some nonsense.

I was going to ask if someone had timestamps for the segments on the Youtube archive of the Day 1 stream, but some kind soul had already posted them in Youtube comments (who'd have thought?)

Guest Segments
Mark & John (8-4Play) 1:03:11
John.D (Sony), Palmer Lucky (Oculus), Mr.Patrick 1:37:34
Jake & Shawn (Campo Santo/Firewatch) Roland (Avalanche/Just Cause 3) 2:27:11
Steve Gaynor (Tacoma/Fullbright) 2:32:57
Phil Spencer & Kudo Tsunoda (Microsoft) 3:06:00
Josh & Frank (343/Halo 5), Robin (Funomena/Wattam) 3:44:46

Just got done watching to the E3 first day video, that was very entertaining and a lot more fun than watching the usual interviwes regarding realease dates and such.

I don't know if Giantbomb put John& Frank and Robin together deliberitely or if that was just coinsidence but it made for an interesting talk about AI (as it is also a quite present topic in the Halo games).

Robin really sees VR as I (and hopefully many enthusiast) see it, locking yourself out from the world doesn't have to be a bad thing as long as it doesn't become an addiction or takes away from other duties.

GB always tries to pair people up that they think will fit together well, but it's also a bit luck of the draw in that some people probably have a tight schedule and can only be there at a specific time without GB being able to plan much around it. But yeah, discussions like that between devs is what I really love about these late shows. That's completely unique to Giant Bomb's coverage, after 7 years there's still no one else doing that kind of thing and I'm not sure why. I do enjoy watching the stage shows that Gamespot do too, but this has such a different feel to it.

The xbox guys felt a little too PR speak for me. It worked well into the conversation but it still just felt like PR speak.

I got that vibe from Kudo but Phil seemed a little looser, actually willing to discuss points, obviously staying on message though. Enjoyed last night stream, wish the Firewatch segment was more informative but it was good fun none the less.

On a side note, the Gamespot show is a shadow of it's former self. Out of 18 segments they only had 1 actual 'Stage Demo' where someone came up and talked with someone else playing. 2 were billed as interviews with people, 3 were games only revealed with CG trailers. So 13 games were shown but not shown :/ In the past they would at least actually have someone play through the demo that was being shown which would often lead to additional tidbits of info in between the PR blub. Disappointing, I guess it's because they can show stuff how they want and when they want, don't really need a Gamespot.

i dunno, i think by the time those questions sprung up he was just trying to keep the vibe the segment got itself into. I mean Jeff was also doing things like asking what Stallone movies inspired Tacoma. His earlier answer about his philosophy of giving a story a bit of heart allowing the audience to accept a lot of silliness was pretty solid and interesting imo

Yeah, it's much easier for companies to just put that stuff out themselves now. Or go to the Youtube thing or whatever. There's so many more options now.

So the day 1 night show was good? Glad they went with fewer guests, took their lesson from last year! Can't wait to watch it.

I'd rate it as kind of good.

On the one hand, Jeff did a good job interviewing and keeping things moving along.

On the other hand, my favorite part of these things in the past has been seeing the guests interacting with the whole team, rather than just Jeff.

This format is certainly better for getting information out of the guests, but far worse for seeing dumb Giant Bomb shenanigans.

Yeah, it definitely wasn't a big issue. Some parts just came off a little cheesy. Like the voice talk with Xbox and Phil instantly saying it works for him because he's laying down with a beer or something like he had to instantly validate the options and stuff like that. Just cheesy, not bad at all because there was definitely some great talk during that segmant.

They also seemed to not do very well with Robin bringing up Pac-girl or Uncharted Girl. Maybe there was more to see in the video, but in the audio it was just like they didn't get what was being said and just ignored it.

This is what I got from that as well. He definitely just seemed willing to let that be a more fun segmant. Plus the whole Firewatch thing will probably forever continue as a joke at this point. I think most people get that it's like gone home but maybe a little more game.

Next step, get audio on the green room camera!

As said while i loved this and its really cool seeing Jeff bust out more of those interview chops i still think it was missing some of the crazy (though the Firewatch/Just Cause 3 segment was trying to get there).

Hopefully we can get some more of that tonight

GB's E3 live shows are the best thing to come out of E3 every year. I can't wait to listen to this tonight. Phil confirming its a 360 emulator is insane. Microsoft has some crazy programming talent.

John Blow discussing the always on DRM in the XB1 from an engineering stand point was one of the most interesting things I have heard come out of E3.
