Xbox One adds Xbox 360 backwards compatibility

Yes.

Except Hexic HD for some reason, but you can just go to its page on Xbox.com, get it for free and it should pop up.

Yes all digital games that are supported will show up under "Ready to install".

yep, BattleBlock Theater and the two Army of Men games appeared in my "Ready to Download" list.

not sure about Hexic HD because I got it for free on the XBOX website a few hours ago, will check back when I get home

Thanks guys, it must feel like christmas seen all that games appearing in the download list lol

any news about lost odyssey?
I know its multiple disks but I thought that was a game they were considering

ps
I loved playing mass effect, again

They mentioned it on the giant bomb. They mentioned LO and blue dragon specifically. They said they were working on getting muktidisk games to work but it's not as easy as single disk games.

Downloaded Mass Effect. It's weird. Frame rate seems jankier than it used to be though admittedly it's been a while since I last played it on 360 (moved to PC at some point).

The biggest issue however, is that I can't seem to choose my class or customise my appearance at the start of the campaign. Like... it's not even in the game. You choose your name and your special ability or something and that's it. I'm SURE you could do that in the original version. I dunno what's happening here.

Guys,

- Do you know if xbox live subscription will be needed for the backwards compability ? (maybe just for online gaming ?)

And

- Will it works if I have never had an xbox 360 ? I mean : when BW compability will be opened, will it works with an 360 game I have bought just for it?

You'll need Gold to play online. Not for the BC in general.

It'll work even with out you ever having a 360. You could buy one of the supported games off xbox.com now, and play it on Xbox One (assuming you're a preview member).

I could do that. You sure you didn't just miss the prompt or select a quick start character?

I just dug this out of a box in the basement while looking for Xbox 360 games

If I'm remembering right you can't change your class or appearance when doing a new-game plus.

I bet you selected the quick start male/female character

I'm so excited to try this. I'll be playing through Kameo and PD0 as soon as I can. Hopefully some of my less popular games get added. I wonder if some of the more tech savy people will be able to look at the emulator on the one to help out with the 360 emulator on PC.

Summary:
A few points:
-Some frequent stuttering points in the 360 version run perfectly smooth on X1, but not all
-Texture pop-in is vastly improved. While not perfect, there are many instances where it no longer happens at all
-Load times are shorter. In this video it was 4 seconds, but when replaying the same scene later, it was as low as 2
-Character lighting appears to be darker, except on their skin
-ME1's somewhat clunky controls are less of an issue with the X1's controller
-Some cutscenes appear to end slightly quicker, as a result of no momentary slowdowns when changing camera angles/animations/etc.

Sorry if this was already asked, but are other people allowed to invite others to this Preview? Really wanted to play some clássico games.

So I know it's a longshot, but is there any chance that by bringing in XBox 360 BC they'll pull in the OG Xbox BC that the 360 had? I was just thinking about it because of the Shenmue 3 news, it'd be cool to pop my XBox Shenmue 2 into an XB1 and have it work.

Impressive.

It seems any glitches (I haven't seen any yet?) are far outweighed by the improvements.

Upscaled, faster load times, better texture streaming/loading.
I really want to see how something like Dark Souls runs on Xbox One through emulation. It had serious performance issues on the 360.

In theory it would work.. but at this point they would maybe be better off writing a new OXbox emulator for the One.

At this point, it would be better for MS to develop OG Xbox emulation from scratch for X1 instead of using that inefficient emulator that came with 360. It is possible for them to do it but will they do it? If there's enough demand for it, probably, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

So is this some kind of Virtual Machine ISO loader? But like with Wine, games require "wrappers"?

that's what it sounds like. They're emulating the entire 360 OS as a VM which is why you see things like boot animation and why every game should run without changes.

Phil Spencer said on the Giant Bomb thing that Kinect games won't work and multi-disc games don't currently work and would require some work on their end but it's possible.

Nope.

Maybe it was a glitch? Probably hard to believe because I didn't record it. When I clicked on "Enter New ID" before it just asked me to enter my name and that's it. No other stats. But when I tried it again a moment ago to record a video for you guys, it started working properly.

No idea, haha. Seems to be okay now.

Hmph. Still getting "this game is not playable here" for PDZ, N&B and Kameo. VP works, but it's the only one I definitely can't be bothered to play right now. I'm in the UK if that makes any difference.

I'm thinking they might announce this at Gamescom along with 360 and OXbox stores on the new Xbox One store with the new UI rollout.

Here I recorded a video of a Xbox Live quickmatch multiplayer of Viva Pinata TiP. You can see the other player messing about in their garden and what not. No idea if they are playing on 360 or via 360 BC on Xbox One, but it doesn't matter it works!

I can see them doing it but I doubt it would be free and xbl is gone so that is probably disuading them too. If it'll cost them money with a very small market.

I would love it though, to be able to play Otogi, JSRF, Gunvalkarie, Mech Assault, PDO, Voodoo Vince, Crimson Skies, etc.. on xbox one would be amazing.

Downloaded my old digital copies of Super Meat Boy, Geometry Wars Evolved and Perfect Dark.

Played the first two but not the third. They both ran flawlessly. Luckily I still have my 360 so I'll need to boot that up and move some saves over to the cloud to carry over.

Overall very impressive stuff.

I'm guessing the Unreal Engine 3 games, like the Mass Effect trilogy, will benefit greatly from faster hardware. Even when they introduced installing on the 360 a lot of the classic UE texture popin stuff that happens each time you finish loading a level and show the graphics was shortened.

The Gears of War, Rainbow Six Vegas and Bioshock games all "suffered" from this, will be interesting how they look on the Xbox One!

The original Xbox emulation on the 360 was poor really, they could do a better job on the xb1 because the x86 architecture.

It really would be amazing. That would make Xbox One truly the All-In-One Xbox system.

So is it pretty much assured that EVERYTHING is coming over? I'm worried about Rock Band, The Orange Box, etc.

Not everything. Publishers can decline to have their game added to the BC list, alternate controllers and Kinect won't work and some games are in licensing hell.

I really hope that for disc games, MS comes up with a way to install the game from disc (console wraps the game itself) to circumvent the publisher approval / license issues.
