[IGN] 40 minute Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain demo 1080p60 - 6/18 at 5 AM PST

Just started watching. Hype levels are climbing.

Previous MGS games had camera items - I assume you'll be able to take some of the pictures for the helicopter's wall.

Have they disclosed all the buddies or are they saving some for the main game? I hope it's the latter.

Remember this screenshot from the Fox engine presentation in 2011? there are definitely more buddies.

Is it the stream on IGN's site that's causing this to stutter and look choppy? Definitely no 60fps here... looks more like Witcher 3 frame rate. Should I be downloading it from somewhere to get the good version?

Edit- he's inside now, and it's smoother, but there are still stutters where the screen pauses for a millisecond.

IGN player is awful. OP needs to be updated with the youtube link and an option to download the video.

they said soon. i can wait. hopefully they are considering a beta.

That beta dream ship sailed long ago.

All they have at this point is a "MP DEMO" kind of beta. I don't think it's coming. E3 would've been the time to do it, and give it some legs.

It makes me a little scared too on how good the online MP will be. I loved MGO with MGS4, but let's face it... the online system was a HUGE reason why people stopped playing. Konami ID's, lag switch monkey shit, laggy games, etc.

I had little of the laggy games, but the rest was there and it was lame.

Man that demo is a huge bummer. All my fears from the previews have been pretty much confirmed.

The game looks like it's really well made but the actual game look super repetitive and instead of having a proper campaign experience like in previous MGS games you just get another generic open world sandbox game with hundreds of boring and generic missions to do.

It basically look like if it was an Ubisoft take on the MGS stealth gameplay.

I'm getting so tired of all those open world games we're getting almost every month nowadays.

Also fuck Keifer, was not worth it to get him over Heyter if that means he only has like 15lines in the game. Sounds like some kind of ego trip from Kojima or something

You literally made no sense , normally I'd say you need to see an Optometrist but you need to get your brains checked.

This is one of the best Demos ever.

From the Peace Walker Music in the main menu.

Play as other Characters just like Peace Walker. More ways to move across the field , buddy system providing more tactics.

What part of this game looks like Ubisoft -_-?

Are you serious? This is the beginning of the game...smh

Finally, collectibles I actually want to collect. You bet your ass I am hunting down the entire soundtrack so I can roll into the desert listening to "Take On Me".

I seriously think hes either trolling or he has brain damage.

I am constantly amazed by the amount of gameplay options that is available to the player.

Letting you choose weapons , customize weapons , choose Character , choose equipment for yourself and your buddy.

Dropping in Vehicles , selecting time of Day .

No other stealth game has provided so many options, Not even open world games give you that amount of options.

The only thing I saw wrong in the trailer is knocked out targets yelling as they get Fultoned. They are knocked out, they shouldn't say anything

This sort of moment happens all the time for me in Ground Zeroes. It's a legitimately great action game as well as having some of the greatest stealth gameplay of all time.

The potential in TPP is unbelievable.

Real men use tranquilizer pistols.

Honestly I'm probably going to equip myself with the Sniper Tranquilizer and Pistol Only .

Or if they have the Carl Gustav from Peace Walker.

The only way you should get to shoot is if you disarm enemies.

Thats how I like to play.

Isn't Big Boss suppose to be fluent in Russian? Why he needs an interpreter for?

I asked the same question , apparently Kojima said in an interview the brain damage from the coma made him forget Russian.

The gameplay changes are a huge improvement over prior MGS games, but that's not what he's talking about. This game is definitely well made, lots of ways to tackle objectives, huge open world to do things in, but there are many MGS fans who are still worried about the focus of the game. A huge, huge reason that many MGS fans like the series are due to the structured focus on their stories, cinematics, dialogue, etc. You're getting way too defensive about this. MGS means different things to different fans, you have no right to insult someone like that, just relax.

Personally I don't really care about all this customization, building my base, capturing goats and jeeps, etc. All I care about is the main story really. Still keeping my eye on impressions before I buy it.

those reasons alone are why they should do a beta. i think there's time. didn't the destiny beta come out after E3 last summer, then the game release Sept 9. Do it Konami.

If you wanted long cinematics like MGS 4 , then no most of them will be relatively short . Kojima stated this in an interviews many times, hes trying to get away from overly long cinematics.

If you are worried about the Story , The 2015 E3 Trailer should be making you ask a lot of questions if you are a fan of the series and have played all the games.

This is the same guy that made you play as Raiden in MGS 2 . You are worried about the story LOL.

I honestly like the peace walker elements and customization, plus the options to tackle missions how you want. The best part of MGS4 was the first 2 levels (Iraq and South America). It tailed off after that (especially France, felt like it was on rails). MGSV's story will be there waiting for us. Play how you like.

I don't get why people are worried about the story , the 2015 E3 Trailer raises so many questions. There are clearly a bunch of secrets left unexplained.

Personally, I think that was DD and then they changed his breed/appearance later in development.

I mean, the dog from the old build looks identical to the Diamond Dog's emblem and we know he was supposed to be a companion of Big Boss from the artwork but it is the wolf that is given the "Diamond Dog" namesake? Seems too similar and redundant to me.

I'm not worried about the premise of the story itself, I'm worried about the amount of time dedicated to it in the game. If I'm capturing things or doing generic open world missions 70% of the time and deep, main story missions the other 30%, I'm not sure I'll be into it like prior games.

Something I think no one brought up , if you look at the Customization panel of your buddies . You can see that there is a Diamond Dog Logo on the Top Right that I think Indicates how much Camaraderie you built with your buddy.

Notice how Quiet doesn't have the 'Shoot This' Command from the Earlier Demo and D-D has the highest amount of Camaraderie and also the most amount of commands.

I think you unlock more commands as you level your friendship with your buddy.

Im impressed by just how much effort and detail has been put into almost every aspect of the game.... I mean, some of the stuff we've been shown has a level of detail that a lot of games wouldn't put into their PRIMARY mechanics, let alone their optional ones.

Take DD and D Walker. The buddy system in general there, from mechanics to the personality shown by them, would be enough to work as a primary selling point of any other game, here its treated as an optional.

Same goes for Weapon customisation. Im pretty much going to spend my first playthrough tranqing and not touching any of the lethal weapons, and yet theres a customization system in place for them that seems to rival a Battlefield style game where guns are the primary focus.

As for folks complaining about the fact that OH its just generic sandbox missions now,not the MGS style campaign. They've specifically gone out of there way to NOT show off that part of the game ,hell they've NPD'ed people even mentioning the main story missions aside from the Miller rescue (and even that has little to no details about it)

I wouldn't worry too much about that. This seems like Peace Walker on steroids, and the generic side-ops only made up a third of that game's meat.

Part of the Theme of TPP is Big Boss's descent into 'Hell' and Building Outer Haven leading to the Events of Earlier Metal Gears.

So going around to Fulton troops in the field and basebuilding isn't pointless from a roleplay stand point.

You are evolving his character as a leader that would eventually face Solid Snake in Earlier games.

We'll see, but I'll bet the story takes a back seat this time. Which is a bit unfortunate. What I'm really bummed about though is that there's no codec team to really interact with. I guess you have Miller and occasionally a guest like Ocelot dropping some random things here and there, but I really liked a bunch of the optional calls you could have in MGS1-3. The codec in 4 was kind of a dud.

I love the use of music in this game. Stealing 80s tunes from soldiers and having them blast from the helicopter while under gunfire. So great.

the cassette tapes open up alot of back story from what I heard. but I see what you mean. Plus we haven't seen anything past Africa. I think we are in for a ton of surprises honestly.

ps: I just started using the MGS GZ app again, I love how you can playback the cassettes on it. I hope this feature comes back. I'd love to listen to the tapes while on my lunch break.

Looks good.

Hopefully there's no way you have have a D-Walker that decked out by the third mission of the actual game. That should be a 70+% through the main story kind of device.

They have cassette tapes you can listen to that are supposed to fill in for this. If it's like Peace Walker, you'll gradually unlock tapes of Big Boss having those kinds of conversations with the characters on Mother Base as you progress through the story missions. It's just not realtime.
