Xbox One adds Xbox 360 backwards compatibility

Once this really gets rolling, I hope they open a 360 storefront on the Bone.

Yeah that would be cool. Right now I am thinking I will go pick up some 360 games that are confirmed, or buy digitally on my 360 that is still working, hopefully. This would make it easier.

The game is running as it would on a 360 - it even thinks it's running on a 360. So there's no resolution bumps or AA. Some people say the scaler is better than the 360 scaler though. I think the loading time and texture load performance improvements we're seeing are due to the faster I/O if the Xbox One.
Interesting, thanks.

That sounds OK. I just hope it works better than the 360s backwards compatibility. My original Xbox copy of Mercenaries always crashed whenever I tried to play it, and that was a supported title.

Just a theory but would Microsoft cease making Xbox 360 consoles when the backwards compatibility feature is officially rolled out later this year?

Makes sense if they want to cut costs.
Probably wouldn't do that until the feature is more fully fleshed out.

Then again, they may have enough inventory to stop manufacturing fairly soon.

It works perfectly in my testing. No difference other than load time improvements here and there. If you didn't tell anyone, aside from the controller, they'd think they were playing the game on a 360 - Guide overlay and all (which is accessed by pressing "start+select"). Everything the game supports on 360 is supported here.

It's technically not even cross-platform play. You're still running the 360 version of the game with the 360 version of Live when you're playing this. :)

well, I've heard these are the games that will be included in the next batch:

Halo Reach
Halo 3
Halo ODST
Halo Wars
Fable II
Borderlands
Gears of War
Gears of War 2
Alan Wake
Shadow Complex

Source? I know they've already shown Borderlands working in the Major Nelson video, but I haven't seen anything official stating these games are coming in a "next batch".

Those were on the promotional materials. People are just assuming they are next. I think we can guess they are coming next, though.

This feels like a stupid question, but I can't quite figure it out...When playing a 360 game, how does one get the 360 guide to come up? The guide button basically is the home button on Xbox One, so it doesn't do anything when in a 360 game. Just wondering if anyone else has figured that out.

Also if you're playing a 360 game, does one use parties from the 360 guide? Or would you use the Parties app on Xbox One? I actually haven't tried that yet (because I don't know how to get to the 360 guide), so I'm wondering how that all works.

Press start and select at same time

It's really neat how this is done. Each game is basically a virtual 360 with one game in the drive.

Can't wait to see the games roll out.

Grrrrr
So Meat Boy works (but my cloud save doesn't :( and Mass Effect worked.

But no matter what, Perfect Dark doesn't recognize it. I even booted it up and updated it on the 360 this morning. Put my save into the cloud and everything.

Anyone else have this "Bundle Only" thing and solve t?

Also anyone here have Banjo yet so I can add you and download it?

Have they mentioned any performance improvements? I only remember them showing off sceenshots and game DVR and online play across Xbone and Xbox 360 (very nice).

But anything specific about load times or extra AA or resolution bumps or anything?

People have seen small loading speed / pop in reduction in mass effect

The greatly increased memory might have a slight effect, but i doubt there will be much improvement.

I really am curious how much better the texture pop in will be for Gears of War which was NOTORIOUS for it

So when this hits later this year the best way to go is to gamefly and just start amassing a huge collection right?

Think of it as an Xbox 360 that handles games like an Xbox One. You either need the disc, or need the license on your gamertag... but every game is installed.

We got that list yesterday saying it was to be released last night.....severely disappointed. Are your sources reliable? And any timeframe?

Since a 360 OS is loaded and running the game, but then you get benefits of it running on XB1 such as video recording, etc, is this not the best BC solution on console ever? I think it might be.

In terms of functionality I would say yes. What's left is Microsoft getting a very large library of BC enabled games going - publisher willing.

Well... it's not like there was an accessible in game OS on any console before the 360 :p

Awesome :)

One more question: Is this available right now to all xbox owners? Or just preview folks? If its not available yet is there a date when this feature will roll out?

Technically only preview members with the full release some time this Fall, but there has been a workaround found for those who don't have the preview apparently on the last few pages.

Yep, which leads me to believe we will be seeing the Store overhauled with a 360 section added.

They even have Store pages for 360 games already set up. You can Pin, Rate, view description, see who's streaming that game on Twitch, view some screenshots, and the dev info, too. Also, when you're watching someone stream the game in the Twitch app, if you own the game, you can click Play from within the app and it takes you to the game :)

It's perfectly integrated as if it were always there. :D

Not necessarily...I get that for Perfect Dark and I own it (i just tested it on my 360).

I think this 'solution' is still not 100% operational.

Are you 100% certain that the gamertag you're using is the one that owned the game on the 360? Does it say you own it on xbox.com?
