[IGN] 40 minute Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain demo 1080p60 - 6/18 at 5 AM PST

EDIT: Fuck I'm top of new page, I'll spare you people cause I'm so nice

I hope we can R&D a sports bra for her

Really hoping Kojima puts up the 'alternate' runthrough of the scenario sooner rather than later, lol.

It will probably be up once the guys get back from E3. At first, he was saying that the alternate video would be the Japanese version, but given that he posted a tweet about it later on his English Twitter account after all of the positive reception, I'm guessing we'll get it in English as well. GIVE IT TO ME NOW!

Okay, sorry, I haven't played PW. I understand how it streamlines things from a gameplay perspective, but it feels jarring to me; takes me out of the world into a "oh right this is a videogame" moment. I hope at least you can talk to the people you "collect" back at base.

Hiding in a box or using the fuktin / ballon thing didn't take you out of the world? It has a lot of features that are "gamey*.

My issue with the fulton system is more that is seems cheap. In similar fashion to the cardboard box which is sort of ridiculous it works as a cool gamplay device, so I have no problem in that regard. I don't see it as jarring so much, but cheap because of the frequency it can be used. KO guy then use that to remove body from area. You don't have to really worry about hiding them or avoiding them being seen by the enemy when outdoors because you can just press triangle and they;re whisked away. In the gameplay demo the guy playing uses it for pretty much every enemy takedown that he doesn't kill That for me is more jarring because it seems a bit of a cop out.

Anyone in the area looking in your direction will see the fulton go off.

Personally I'm going to set the game to hard and no reaction time (cause shit is hacking yo). I think that's a good balance.

I think it would make more sense if you are limited to it's use on any given mission, whether that be based on a frequency of time passed or number of uses at any given time. Per mission perhaps.

Edit - sorry double post and edit there.

The way the credits appear on screen is brilliant. It's not intrusive and feels like an actual TV show.

Punished "Venom" Snake

So cool, so unique, so Metal Gear.

Really hope that there's a decent window of time in TPP between being seen and the alarm going off if you're not using reflex mode. Was frustrating as shit in GZ.

Also when's the alternate gameplay going up? Tomorrow?

If its like PW then you only get 9 per mission early in the game and if you play on hard enemies have a much longer line of sight and will spot the fulton, triggering an alert.

You should probably watch the gameplay video then. There's a limit of 12 a mission.

If that's the case then fair enough, I have watched it but that must have slipped by me. My bad. In that regard I think then that makes sense, so have no issues =). And as others have said, on hard it will be more difficult to use without raising attention.

Edit - Thx for the replies and info.

They are limited and cost GMP per use as well. Replenishing them after you run out will probably cost GMP too.

I really hope we get a proper Metal Gear Remake with this engine.

MS are you listening? This would be your Final Fantasy VII remake if you can secure it!!

I'm curious to see how, if at all, playing as other characters than Snake in missions affects your playstyle via aiming and the like.

Could be interesting, especially if their skills grow over time.

I can see how after watching these gameplay presentations that might cause worry but I don't think it will be an issue. MGS games have always been relatively easy due to the fact you can tranq a guard and basically not have to worry about them for a good 10 minutes. That's been combatted in TPP and to a lesser extent in GZ with bullet drop and the enemies adapting to your tactics.

In regards to fulton though, they are limited and they do cost money. They also can be shot down or attract enemies as shown in the presentations and they also can't be used in doors which means that you have to carry the guards into the open which can cause problems.

In Peace Walker they did honestly make most of the missions a bit easy but I still got caught time and time again by other guards and in the vehicle boss battles sometimes there was an element of risk and reward in regards to going out into the open to fulton an enemy with patrols nearby. It was always risky and I got caught A LOT. I've platted Peace Walker and it was not easy by any stretch of the imagination.

But again, in TPP they have been nerfed quite a bit and aren't quite the "get out of jail" card they were in Peace Walker but I suppose we'll have to see just how much they affect gameplay when the game comes out.

Honestly though, I think they have the balance pretty perfect this time around. Ground Zeroes was definitely one of the harder MGS games on first attempt in regards to stealth due to the guards field of vision (especially on hard) and things like bullet drop and generally having less ammo for the tranq gun. Even reflex mode didn't make the game that much easier but of course, after multiple playthroughs the game becomes a breeze but that's only after you've learnt how all the mechanics work together and only after you've learnt how the enemy AI works.

Punished "Venom" Snake

So cool, so unique, so Metal Gear.

It just seems unnecessary to me. Especially when they were overlayed OVER the menu/loadout screen in the shown demo where they come in your way while customizing.

Well, from what journalists were saying, your stats are much weaker as the normal soldiers they played as-- they were running out of breath quickly and couldn't sprint nearly as long as Snake. Keep in mind, though, that in Peace Walker, there are soldiers with higher stats than Big Boss, so I expect those sorts of unique soldiers to be present in TPP as well!

I'm not so sure, but this demo killed some of my hype.

I'm not a huge fan of big firefights. And gosh, where those man came from? more than 100 enemies in less than 2 minutes, in the middle of nowhere. I thought at the end a Metal Gear Ray was going to appear and start shooting lasers at Big Boss.

That escalated very quickly, and not the kind of vibe that MGS has brought over the past decades.

But the rest was amazing, and that soundtrack just gave me Vice City vibes (which is one of the favorite games from Kojima).

Well just don't go in loud ;)
Also, all enemies are called in from other bases to come help. No guards are generated to provide back-up. If Snake were to destroy that comm station earlier, no guards, tanks, etc would come running. You as a player can have as big or small of a fight as you'd like.

Looked amazing. Can't wait to play it for myself and be sneaky as fuck.
For about 3 seconds before I get noticed by an easy to pass guard.

Did anyone else catch what Miller says to Big Boss after he Fulton's the Spetsnaz leader?

At 34:10 He says "I'll tell the client that we sent the target to a place outside Heaven".

Outer Heaven begins!!!

This looks like a game that's from 5 years in the future. Just insane.

If the whole game lives up to what is being shown, it looks like this could be one of the finest games ever made.

Apologies if it's been covered elsewhere but if you choose to play a mission as a different character, do you get different voice audio as well? For giving orders to the dog, etc. Would be weird to play as a different soldier and still get Big Boss's voice.

It seems like we'll get different voices, yeah

It probably will, especially if you have a soldier that performs better than Snake in some areas. And, if the Ground Zeroes upload is what I think it is,
I'd like to play as Kojima for a mission, just for the credits - Created, Directed, and Starring HIDEO "Ex-Konami" KOJIMA lol

Except MGS always brings that vibe when you get spotted and has done since it's MSX days.

And Kojima created Vice City? Truly he is the GOAT.

What?

Damn this looks amazing!

Seeing as Gound Zeroes ran at 1080p at a solid 60fps on PS4, I wonder if this would work well with Morpheus using reprojection? I'd love it if they tried at least, because it could be mind blowing.

Real men use tranquilizer pistols.

Honestly I'm probably going to equip myself with the Sniper Tranquilizer and Pistol Only .

Or if they have the Carl Gustav from Peace Walker.

The only way you should get to shoot is if you disarm enemies.

Thats how I like to play.

I think Kojima made a big mistake when he introduced the tranq guns as starting weapons and not as unlocks.

Much like the bandanna and stealth camo, the tranq guns should be an end-game unlock by not killing a single person. Bandanna should be without firing a shot, and camo is of course without being seen.

Real men were able to play through the entire game without a tranq gun.
