SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

i think the jacket is good proof that diversifying the tiers can help significantly with the funding. i expect we'll see a few more before the end of the kickstarter.

tempting though it is, it's just a little bit out of my price range. i might spring for a $700 tier though.

I hope whoever is in charge of the kickstarter rewards ideas has more stuff to add to higher tiers. It's amazing that just a replica jacket could do so much for keeping momentum.

Replica Phoenix mirrors would be cool. That or maybe Tomato Mart memorabilia.

Lmao, that GB Adam segment is great.

Adam's like 'we gave kickstarter a heads up on the Shenmue thing'

KS Like 'What's Shenmue?'

Adam; "you're gonna have a problem."

I thought Yooka lost steam pretty quickly compared to Bloodstained :/

Yooka's campaign was a bit different, considering Playtonic didn't expect to hit $1m until the last week or so of the campaign, much less within 24 hours. They had to scramble and come up with more stretch goals because they weren't expecting so much money to come in. Playtonic also didn't want to fall victim to "Kickstarter bloat" so as a result some of the higher stretch goals were cool extras but they weren't things that would make people instantly back the game upon seeing it.

Bloodstained's stretch goals were far more lucrative (Wii U/Vita ports, new modes, etc.), so people likely felt more compelled to pledge or raise their tier amounts. Not exactly anything wrong with Yooka's campaign, it's just that in the way Bloodstained's stretch goals were designed they were clearly going to get more money.

Their recent genius and super successful additional tier move (60K spike in funding!) gives me the confidence and optimism they'll manage the campaign well from here on out. In my eyes the two major boosts that will happen will come from:

PS4 physical version; if this is somehow worked out with Sony behind the scenes before the campaign ends (they must be getting bombarded with messages about it) then this will provide a significant boost and reignite excitement and interest.

Arcade game stretch goal; I can totally see the funding rocketing once this is unveiled. People have fond nostalgic memories of the arcades from Shenmue 1 & 2 and we know for definite they have this stretch goal planned. I can see the pledges jumping once they add the stretch goal and post an update about it.

Outside of that any cool ideas like the jacket tier would be welcome. I'm sure they have a well thought out plan for the next four weeks or so.

That's amazing. Do you have a version with the full durations? Presumably there is usually a big spike at the end as well.

Thanks for posting this. This chart indicates that Shenmue 3 should finish in the 6.5 to 7 million range. Sounds realistic. Great to see visual evidence that this is the most successful videogame campaign ever. And by quite the significant margin. The initial surge in funding is just astounding. Everyone clearly wants this game.

So the Eurogamer article I posted was quite inaccurate and in hindsight and I probably shouldn't have linked to it. Apologies. Reading around for articles Polygon has a recent article about Shenmue 3's budget that seems far more accurate. It's based on an actual interview they held with Yu Suzuki at E3. Some important quotations:

Though Suzuki said that despite the evolution of open world game design since Shenmue 1 and 2 shipped, he doesn’t have any plans to alter the way Shenmue 3 will play to keep up with the times, aiming for a feel similar to the original games.

fantastic. this is the best news i've heard since they announced the shenmue 3 kickstarter. :)

now someone please give me some good news about a ps4 disc reward tier and make my life complete.

If there's anything else you guys think should be included in the OP, please let me know!

I'll be back again tomorrow to update it.

Could I ask a favor of someone here? I want to add the Shenmue defense force banner to my current avatar pic. Can someone make it for me? I've never done one before but Shenmue seems a worthy cause.

I'll have to resize your avatar to 90x120 to do it. Whoever made the banner made it 90 pixels long.

This is what a dedicated fan can do with the Unreal 4 engine - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7cjDaOQpB0

As excited as I am about the project, it's a little worrying this guy can put together a much more convincing model of Ryo.
Thats exactly what I'm worried about too. I'm just as excited as the next person for Shenmue 3 but the footage shown in that video looked horrible. It would take a group of 4 people 2-3 weeks to make a better looking video than what we saw.
Regardless I'm very excited about the game and to find out where the story takes us.

Not sure if anyone came across this, but on Wikipedia there is an explanation of what "Rapport" is, so I guess Shenmue's Rapport system is based on the same idea/concept.

"Rapport is a close and harmonious relationship in which the people or groups concerned understand each other's feelings or ideas and communicate well."

I wonder what Sega must be thinking. Shenmue 3 will sell a lot better if they release a HD version of Shenmue 1 and 2. Dreamcast didn`t sell very well, so obviously not too many players have played these games. I feel like they are more aimed at hardcore fans. And even if you get a Dreamcast, the games are more expensive than the console itself, and they are hard to find. The same goes for Shenmue 2 on the original Xbox. Dreamcast emulation isn`t good, and Xbox emulation is non existent. There are almost no way for newcomers to play these games before jumping into Shenmue 3.

A HD rerelease of the first two should be a tier in this campaign, but obviously a high one. 6mil?

I guess that's why Shenmue 3 will come with a Shenmue 1/2 story cinematic thing.

Seriously, all they need to do is add more tiers and people will donate out the ass. 20 backers for $3,000 replicas jackets. Open the floodgates on that PS4 physical edition at $60.

Knowing how ass backwards Sega is, watch them start DMCA'ing people with Let's Plays and stuff for Shenmue and Shenmue II on YT.

That would be really stupid of them to do that. Idiotic. It would also really communicate that they don't know their own product, i.e. it doesn't matter if someone knows the story, it's all about the rich-filled humanity experience that sets Shenmue apart from any other game out there.
