SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

i still haven't backed because i can't decide which tier to pick. i'm probably going in for at least $100, but i might go as high as $300. i don't even remember the last time i've paid full price for a game, but i've waited for this for 14 damn years. that just about 21 bucks a year.

The most random and best known is the duck race bit, but there are others. Did you know you can get fuku a girlfriend in shenmue 1, as an example?

I did the duck race for the first time last year :) I have never heard of Fuku-san getting a girlfriend?! How is that done?

You can change your pledge through the campaign so you can put in $100 so you don't forget, or put a notification for the final 48hrs. Or you can keep raising the amount as the hype becomes more hype.

There are soooo many random small side quests and stories to unfold in shenmue if you take the time to find them. The most random and best known is the duck race bit, but there are others. Did you know you can get fuku a girlfriend in shenmue 1, as an example?

I refuse to believe that Fuku-san is datable.

21 a year is too low, really. You should at least go in for 35.72 a year.

Its Akemi. You just have to talk to both of them tons and tons of time.

By duck race, btw, I mean the duck you find by punching the tree, you did thay quest?

So I know people have been brainstorming ideas for new tiers and I had a thought earlier if they get on board with a physical PS4 version. How about a tier with a custom Shenmue Dualshock 4 controller? I'm thinking a turquoise-green colour like the mirrors, with gold phoenix and dragon designs? Even if it was one of those crazy $800+ tiers that I could never justify backing. DS4's compatable with PC as well so it'd work whichever version people went for.

Yeah, that was amazing :) I was never skilled enough to beat Izumi before, so I had never done it. It was so nice to see something brand new (to me) after all these years.

All these sorts of "off-the-beaten-path" events better make it into S3. I loved wandering off, not advancing the story, just exploring and occasionally being rewarded with unique dialog or video.

I'm looking forward to the KS polls and surveys.

Who knows, he talks about that wrt Shenmue I in his GDC14 postmortem.

Everyone should watch it.
Edit: better video.

Haven't watched this in a long time. Though I'm not done rewatching yet, something interesting here is that Yu wanted four acts and, from the sounds of it, the fourth act is starting a new journey rather than the climax for the journey Ryo's on now. So long as Shenmue 3 covers that third act, I think that people worried they won't finish what they started with Lan Di will end up just fine.

I'm still re-watching the GDC2000 Shenmue talk. Some really awesome stuff in there, it's also a really good contrast between today's industry and the industry 15 years ago I think, I just wanted to share this moment though.

"That way we ended up with 50,000 polygons for the face alone so we had to reduce the number of polygons for the game. We are not making games for the PS2"
hahaha

I wonder if they could use those original high poly scans for the new models.
I wonder if the sculptures still exist or they were absorbed by collectors. Maybe they could even try doing new modern scans of them! But I think that even if they could, they might not make much sense in a modern game asset pipeline where you would use other techniques which might end up being more efficient.

I just remembered that awesome post morterm at gdc a couple of years ago. I wonder how much this is going to make by the end of the kickstarter.

I wonder if someone else picked up on that though? The reddit account creation seems to predate the tweet, however.

Suzuki-san will be on Reddit today, so please join him and give him your support to celebrate this momentous occasion! The Reddit AMA will start around 9:30 pm and the link will be posted here on the Update page.

Seems fishy, no update yet and even if they were just warming up, that would mean having so many questions not even started to be answered.

We need to keep retweeting the link and they also have to had more levels of backing and new things add physical ps4 for 50 and u will see another wave of backers .. We well and they can't let this slow start giving us new goals for 4.25 and 4.75 3.75 etc ....

They have to be on this 24/7 not slow in any ways just cus we over the goal

Is he actually replying? I have no idea what's going on.

Looking at that guy's other replies, I somehow doubt that that's Yu.

So how did the Kickstarter fare today? Is momentum still slowing down or has it been somewhat consistent with the past day or two?

No it's definitely slower today. For example between 14:00 BST and 23:00 BST yesterday it made $58696. Whereas between the same times today it's $34,599. Also around this time last night was when the $3000 replica jacket tier went up and that caused a huge boost.

Looking at the charttrack daily numbers, bearing in mind that the first day was cut short but since we're a few days out of the initial rush I think it should have normalised a bit, the running total so far is $73,631. I'm not sure when they start counting the new day, since it happens when I'm asleep, but I think they must be basing it on east coast US time, which means there's about 6 hours of the day left to be counted.

Now I don't have the figures open now, but earlier I was comparing that total with the comparative daily totals of Bloodstained, Yooka-Laylee, Torment and Pillars, and I think if Shenmue 3 can hit at least $100,000 for today, then it'll be in good stead and it could indicate that there's just more demand for this kickstarter and not that the high profile launch frontloaded figures.

I don't have an Reddit account, but when the AMA goes live can anyone ask if they're planning to accept continued pledges post-Kickstarter as well as let backers increase their pledge to gain access to higher tiers?

That is a good idea to keep like a paypal open to keep gaining funds after the kickstarter.

I backed the kickstarter! 160 dollars of that total is because of me. ME!

I may up it to the 175 level, depends on how my finances look.

How different is Shenmue from the Yakuza games?

From what I played of Yakuza, Shenmue has a lot more attention to detail. The focus isn't on fighting as much, but exploration and investigation. The production values are higher. It's more of a simulation than a straight-up action-RPG. They're different enough that I actively dislike Yakuza after having played so much Shenmue. It's like the skeleton was the same, but Yakuza went off in all sorts of different directions.
