SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

From what I played of Yakuza, Shenmue has a lot more attention to detail. The focus isn't on fighting as much, but exploration and investigation. The production values are higher. It's more of a simulation than a straight-up action-RPG. They're different enough that I actively dislike Yakuza after having played so much Shenmue. It's like the skeleton was the same, but Yakuza went off in all sorts of different directions.
Which Yakuza did you play? I only played the first one on PS2, which I really didn't like. Though from what I hear, the later games changed a lot for the better and seem to focus less on the fighting... From the trailers at least.

How different is Shenmue from the Yakuza games?

Completely different games gunning for completely different audience. I love Yakuza, it's my favourite game series (As my avatar should tell you) but Yakuza and Shenmue should never really be compared. It's like comparing Outrun to F335 Challenge.

If you want a mix of arcade brawling with RPG elements with some over top storyline and great characters you'll like Yakuza. Otherwise if you're looking for Shenmue mk. II avoid it.

I played the first and the fourth. I agree that the fighting became less of a focus in 4, but I still couldn't get into it.

And added.

Really love this poster.

Yakuza's storyline is still wildly in-depth, though. I used to dislike it as a poor man's Shenmue, but I eventually really got into it.

Yakuza isn't Shenmue at all, it's 3D River City Ransom at best, which is also awesome. But it's completely different at the end of the day.

hooked up the dreamcast to play some shenmue in celebration

man, this game looks SO good with the vga box

The Dreamcast over VGA looks godly. The image quality is just fantastic, even better than later consoles that supported 480p over component.

Yakuza is great, guys. Play it while you wait on Shenmue III.

This man knows what's up.

Just don't expect a Shenmue like game but a manly soap opera with crazy over the top fight moves and finishers. Also expect many shirtless men.

(If it helps people the Jet Set Radio/Monkey Ball team made it.)

Man that backing took a nosedive. Probably going to end up in the 5 to 6 million range with the chance of it not even hitting that.

Every decently high-profile kickstarter has the dive after the first days, with the Shenmue 3 kickstarter being more intensely so thanks to it being announced through the Sony presser, so you get less stragglers showing up on the 3rd or 4th day. It's doing extremely well for what is otherwise a very niche IP.

Funding has indeed slowed down somewhat today. I was watching the KS page yesterday like a hawk and pledges were coming in strong. I think the additional higher tier helped. Yu Suzuki's Reddit AMA is in about two hours from now so I'm hoping the extra attention will boost the pledges so today will see a strong finish. I'm expecting pledges in the 80K to 100K range now each day until the final spike when the campaign draws to an end.

We're still looking at a strong 5.5 to 6 million KS campaign though which is amazing for a previously dormant IP like this. Even with the pledges slowing down we're still looking at the most successful videogame KS ever and that is an achievement to which Yu should be proud.

The immense desire for Shenmue 3 is very real and this campaign proves that.

Yeah was just about to post this. They're promoting his Reddit appearance directly on the Kickstarter. Hoping this causes a surge in pledges. Guess we'll find out soon.

I hope there are some moderators to help with the filtering of questions though, I already see some stupid ones in comparison to the list of questions that was excellently collated here.

Apparently I can edit the title. Should I? Or was it a mistake?

Hmm. Not certain as to whether you'll be able to? You can edit the title but it only edits the subtitle of the thread and not the title that shows up in Gaming Discussion. I'm pretty certain that only mods carry that ability. You could try?

Yakuza is Shenmue spread thin. So much to do, but without all the attention to detail as a result. It's an awesome series in its own right (one of the best) and obviously the closest thing there is to Shenmue.

They're killing themselves by not offering a physical PS4 tier. You would get so many people moving from $29 to $60, or hell, set it at $100 and they will still pay for it.

Did not realize the main Shenmue kickstarter page had a new song. :O http://shenmue.link/ks.html

This is just divine. Beautiful. I'd love for this track to be in the game.

Let's see what the ks numbers are before and after the reddit appearance.

It's at $3,369,129 right now 8:51 PST

Yeah I'm super curious as to whether the Reddit appearance will cause the pledges to surge. We should definitely keep track.

I agree, but based on the FAQ they're set against it, and I have no clue why.

Something must be going on with Sony behind the scenes. At a guess they want Shenmue's eventual PS4 retail release to be immune from the Kickstarter.

im watching this interview with corey marshall and wondering, how would he sound with properly translated and directed dialog? haha

So T-minus 10 minutes until the AMA and we're standing at:

42,391 Backers
$3,370,549 Funding

Let's see if Yu's legendary appearance positively impacts the Kickstarter. Hope it does!

I really hope Yu reposts a new AMA. The reddit mods removed his original post from r/IAmA because he put it up too early. He won't get public exposure on Reddit unless he reposts.
