Yu Suzuki will be doing an AMA on Reddit

I don't have a reddit account, but FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY can someone please ask him if he would ever consider doing a (spiritual successor or sequel) to OUTRUN 2 through crowdfunding? You'd have my eternal thanks!

If you need an exact question, here's a suggestion (but feel free to adjust it): "Now that the campaign for Shenmue 3 has been such a smashing success on Kickstarter, could you see yourself using crowdfunding again in the future to do a follow-up or spiritual successor to your other beloved series: Outrun?" "Have you in general ever considered returning to the series that so famously allowed its many fans to go on a beautiful journey?"

Nothing against Shenmue 3 by the way, on the contrary, but for me Yu Suzuki will always be the man who gave us the first "racing" game that allowed us to enjoy the journey instead of crossing the finish line. I need that type of game to come back and I truly believe the gaming medium as a whole needs it as well.

Now that Suzuki-san had such success with crowdfunding already, and Sega possibly being fine with lending him an IP name again, there might actually be a slim chance Outrun could come back if we keep asking him for it (Street Fighter IV style). (And no, I wouldn't even care that much if the Ferrari license couldn't be maintained - a fake Italian sports car would suffice for me as long as the focus is on the beautiful scenery, music + classic Sega blue skies atmosphere, and tight gameplay again.)

There is already an outrun game out there that most people have never played because it has never gotten a proper home port. OUTRUNNERS was outrun 2 before outrun 2. Bring that home first.

So, Yu is replying to English question in Japanese. I find that sort of amusing.

The translations are gonna take forever.

I'm kind of glad it's gone down as it's quite late where I live. If it had gone live now I know I would've stayed awake to follow it

Where do you see replies? I don't understand this stupid website.

Looks like the OP was removed. This is looking like someone doing a prank.

To reiterate, backer update sez 9:30 PM PST. The Yu up there is probably not the right Yu.

That gives us six hours to think up some good questions. Should be fine.

Just a reminder everyone the Reddit AMA is approximately two hours from the time of this post. Personally speaking I hope Yu enlightens us with some additional background on the development of the game and I'm also hoping the extra attention causes pledges to the KS campaign to spike. I guess we'll see what happens later. See you all in two hours.

I'll be sleeping then so can anyone ask him about:

-if he's interested in making arcade games again
-What his inspirations are, his favorite games and if he's looking out for upcoming games
-What other game concepts he wants to realize and if he can talk about the concepts he mentioned in a interview like Pure Breed and Extreme Gunners
-If we'll see better/higher tiers, like replicas of the Mirrors
-Kickstarter exclusive PS4 physical version, that there's a huge discrepancy between the $29 and $60 tiers

Sega Race TV and Psy-Phi would be interesting to ask about, as far as sort-of-lost Yu Suzuki projects go.

Outrunners and Planet Harriers would be nice to see brought back in some form, but iirc and I am no expert on this, the former was made by the House of the Dead studio, Sega-AM1, and the latter was chiefly overseen by Toshiro Nagoshi of Amusement Vision (AM6, I think?).

They were really nice follow ups to Yu Suzuki games past, but I'm not sure if Yu Suzuki himself is the right fellow to ask. But then, he's probably got colleagues in high Sega places still, so it wouldn't hurt to let him know there's interest out there.

The latest KS update confirms that yes that is the real Yu, this is (and was) the right link to the AMA, and keep the questions coming.

So coolio. We should hear something in an hour 20 ish.

I'm just going to click on his profile and read his comments through there while occasionally pressing F5. That's the easiest way to follow his replies, right?

Basically yeah, and clic on context if the question isn't clear while reading the answer.

I'll post all his answers in here for those who are having trouble following or don't like using Reddit

Q:

Is the Shenmue 3 you are making now the same Shenmue 3 you would have made years and years ago? Or has the story evolved over the years?

Yu_Suzuki:

Shenmue is based off of 11 chapters that make up the whole story. These past 14 years I have been planning 4 or 5 games that would encompass the whole series.
