SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

You mean I have to choose between the jacket and dinner?!

I think everyone's missing the fact that YSNet has already stated they have secured multiple funding sources outside of the KS. Yes they have stated that the KS is profoundly important and the primary source of funding - I'm not disputing that. However much of the posts I'm reading here are acting like the KS will be the game's total and final budget when this is simply not true. For example let's say the KS hits a modest $7 million. YSNet's additional funding sources could amount to say $3 million bringing the game's final budget to that magical $10 million number without the KS having to hit that amount. Merging all of the funding sources together the game should theoretically have a strong and formidable budget.

They have already secured multiple funding sources in addition to the KS. We know one of the investors is Sony though the vague comments we've read indicate that their investment is marginal. YSNet however also have funding sources in addition to Sony. I wouldn't be surprised if these undisclosed funding sources in tandem with a strong and successful $7 million KS bring the game's final budget in to the $10 to $15 million range. The point I'm trying to prove is that these funding sources and their amounts may be undisclosed but that doesn't mean they don't exist. There is additional funding available to YSNet outside of the KS campaign and that money is definite and secured.

When all is said and done I wouldn't be shocked to hear that the game's final budget is $15 million. The other funding sources are unknowns. They could be more substantial than we presume.
I think everyone realises the KS isn't the only funding source and certainly like other KS the budget will balloon during development. If I wasn't confident that was the case I wouldn't have pledged at all. However they have already stated that the scope of the game is dictated by the KS results and well that's correct. At $10m on KS it might end up drawing $15m by the end through additional funding and pre-orders. However, they will not grow the game if they don't get KS funds so it is profoundly important that people contribute.

But yeah I think people are taking this the exact opposite direction now which they shouldn't. You are SCARING people away with worries they will lose their money which simply isn't happening.

My thinking is he can't make the 'true' sequel on $10m total.
I think $10m from Kickstarter would allow him to get a higher number of additional funding from elsewhere, bringing the grand total to $20m (for example) which is the true amount he needs. So yeah $10m from Kickstarter is certainly everything he needs, from Kickstarter, but less than that now from the fans will lead to him getting significantly less from elsewhere.

Stretch goals make less sense when the kickstarter money is a small percentage of the actual budget.

My point still stands. "Majority of the funds" - not the game's entire and final budget. A successful $7 million KS could still mean the game's final budget is closer to $10 million via the inclusion of the secured additional funding sources and thus Yu is given the ability to fully realise his dream with sufficient funds available. They have multiple funding sources in addition to the KS. We already know from the co-producer one of those funding sources and investors is Sony and they have invested money even if that money is marginal and below the level of funding achieved by the KS.

My point is that the KS does not represent Shenmue 3's final budget. They state right there on the KS page they have secured multiple funding sources and have multiple investors. Even if that funding represents the minority of the game's budget we could still be looking at multiple millions which would thus boost Shenmue 3's final budget to the level Yu requires to achieve and realise his dream. Don't panic is what I'm saying. There's already secured funding available outside of this campaign. I wouldn't even be shocked to see Yu approached by additional investors post-KS now that the campaign has exploded in popularity. Shenmue 3's budget could yet increase even further in the months to come.

The dinner and the original jacket have been snapped up again, but I'm not convinced they are genuine bids.

Could be trolls, or it could even be people who were freaked out by the drops so they've pledged for them without intending to fulfill it, just so they can see the numbers go up.

Eh, it's still worth a shot isn't it?

Or maybe we should just try PewDiePie? Make him do some good! Could you imagine if he and his followers were on board? We really need to give it a good shot. He'd bring in a huge crowd. **goes to twitter**
PewDiePie and his followers would definitely have a field day with the awkward voice acting in Shenmue. He'd bring a lot of new fans to the franchise.

I just got an email from apparently the UK couple that won 166 million pounds jackpot. I have been selected to recieve 1,5 mil from them. All I need to do is give them my name, adress and phone number.

Maybe this will help you guys? Thats like 2 million dollars right there

Come to think of it, I know a Nigerian prince who would love to fund Shenmue entirely. He's stranded in Laos right now, so all I have to do is fill out a money order and...

my dreams are crushed :(

btw, can a mod add Shenmue 3 to my list of trash since this is from kickstarter? Thanks

I'm thinking a traditional publisher will step in eventually, like we've seen with many other Kickstarters. Koch Media/Deep Silver is a logical candidate and if Sony markets the game that's money they don't have to spend. Still, this campaign needs to be as successful as it can be, but we can't ignore that there are many people who are uninformed about Shenmue. I've see quite a few reaction streams about the Sony conference where everybody loses it at the FF 7 remake while the Shenmue announcement flies by them without any reaction.

Micrsoft will step in, but let Sony advertise it as a Playstation game primarily.

Quick, everyone! Give Yu your energy!

IIRC Adam Boyes indicated on the Giant Bomb late night stream on Thursday that it pretty much had to be self-published due to IP rights.

No Kickstarter updates yesterday or (so far) today. Radio silence on weekends? What's up with that?

Had hope that the adding of the jacket tier was going to lead to more tiers and engagement coming regularly. Hope they have something good planned for soon...

They should add a new $55 tier that includes two copies for those willing to spend that full price. Gift one to your friend, or get it for both PC and PS4.

They need to add a limited $1000 tier where you are an NPC in Shenmue world (that is, your name, age, nationality, etc).

They need to add a limited $2000 tier where they model the NPC after you and your name, and give it a fully fledged "life" in the Shenmue world, adding Yu Suzuki's touch. Also includes the info in $1000 tier.
Good suggestions, and the NPC bit would work perfectly. The more iI think about it the more I realize I would definitely up my pledge if I could get a physical PS4 copy, as well as a physical PC copy.

Don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I'll chance it.

I'm probably just being really stupid here, but I'm not sure if the capsule toys mentioned in the backing rewards are actually physical toys you receive, or if they're exclusive in-game items. Can anyone help clarify that one for me?

Left myself a little tight after the Steam and Good Old Games summer sales, but when I get paid at the end of the month I'll be donating. Thinking of going for the 120 option.

The $120 option is a physical capsule toy.

Just some quick and rough math so we can get an indication of where we're going to end up.

Day 3: 268,596
Day 4: 174,434
Day 5: 88,380
Day 6: 91,538

Excluded the madness that was the first two days as obviously that's when the KS was exploding in popularity. Looking at the numbers we're seeing an average of around ~89K per day now that the campaign has slowed down. So presuming we hit this every day until the final last minute boost in the campaign's final days:

Current funding: 3,495,728 minus the 12,160 accumulated today
Current (adjusted) funding: 3,482,568

Add ~89K of projected daily pledges to that over the next 24 days:

3,482,568 + (~89K times 24 = 2,136,000) = 5,618,568

Now let's round the numbers to make this easier (math is hard!) so 5,600,000 or 5.6 million. Assuming the final two days of the KS match the first two days it's 5.6 million plus 2.8 million = 8.4 million. Let's say the boost isn't that significant and the upswing only amounts to 2.0 million = 7.6 million.

So with these rough calculations and at our current pace? Optimistic estimate: 8.4 million. Realistic estimate: 7.6 million.

We have to maintain the ~89K daily average and this assumes a significant boost in the twilight of the campaign.

Short of the 10 million objective but still the most successful videogame KS ever by a significant margin. Looking at the numbers I'm quite optimistic.

Don't know. But Evilore has never had an issue backing kickstarters

That's for him to decide. Don't bother other people. I'm sure he knows of the existence of this KS. He can decide if he wants to pledge or not without spamming his PM box. That will only serve to paint people that are trying to raise awareness to this as crazies. And I'm almost starting to believe that that was the intent of the poster of that idea.

Suzuki said during his AMA that more pledge tiers are in the works. I imagine some time this week. I think it makes sense to stagger like this, to keep eyes coming back to the project throughout the month.

Yes, this is getting out of hand.

Look man. I'm a HUGE shenmue fan and I even lost hope before this announcement. I was even saying Shenmue fans should just pack it up lol.

I can't blame them for being excited. They are a rabid fanbase but I do agree. Evilore knows about this and he'll donate if he wants to. Hell he probably already has.

For every troll that pledges to back out right after there will be thousands of legitimate backers. It's fruitless and this train forklift can't be stopped.

it's not even 3.5 m yet? shame, it's never gonna get 10 m

Honestly. It would never have made 10 million. People just need to accept reality of kickstarter. This could potentially do over 5.5 million but it would never make 10 million. That's just too much. Not to mention this is the inevitable lull period of KS. Where donations slow until the last 2 or 3 days. Where people up their pledges and new people start to pledge.

Wow, it just dropped by another $8,000 on top of the previous $10,000.

Some people really don't want a Skill Tree System.

EDIT: And someone else pledged for the dinner. Hopefully not another troll.

And now it has jumped again. lol I think it's amazing how many of us have this campaign permanently open in a browser tab. I know I have since Monday.

I'd like to thank in advance all the assholes, trolls and flip-floppers for making sure Suzuki's honest and good-hearted attempt to bring us fans some closure is discredited and squandered.

It's not been closed once since I backed it last Monday.

And we're over $3,500,000. It's as exciting as watching the Euro value fluctuate against the Pound. And I say that from a place of genuine interest. We all have our hobbies.
