Its more about getting word out to their audiences an not digging out their pockets. You guys are actually going to start spamming rich people to give up large sums of money? What would they get out of it? They wouldn't be receiving any of the profits Sony would.

I think the Lan Di render is from Shenmue Online?Long time myself where it's nearly 20 years ago when I first came across something intriguing called 'Project Berkley' in a 1998 issue of Computer and Video Games (now sadly defunct)........

It's crazy to think 20 years on from when I first saw the above image of Shen Hua I will be seeing it properly in Shenmue III (a lot of the concept art detailed in magazines at the time where of her and other characters that will be shown in III, like Niao Sun shown on the KS page:

Project Berkley CGI video from 1998.
I believe the Lan Di render on the KS page is also from the 'Project Berkley' video.
The Shenmue III Kickstarter has been slowing down a lot lately... probably because of all the negativity surrounding Sony's alleged involvement... which turned out to be untrue (they're only funding the marketing for the PS4 version).
At the rate it's going now, it looks unlikely it could hit $10 million... But I really hope it does pull if off, somehow.
True, it could very well end up being the most funded Kickstarter video game to date, if it reaches $6 million... But that's still not enough for a fully open-world Shenmue III. A game like this needs at least $10 million to be able to live up Yu Suzuki's vision. The pace needs to pick up.It really hasn't slowed down when you compare it to other games that were kickstarted.

I put in $310. My girl saw how passionate I was about this and put in $100. I really hope we get to 10 mil. :'(

Lol. Wonder if he'll actually do it.

Less than 50.000 backers in one week... Looks like this game will not gonna make it, I mean, 43.000 backers is like... Nothing.
If this Kickstarter it's something to test how many people will buy this game... Well, the numbers speaks for themselves.
I'm not interested in this game but it's kinda sad, damn.

It's already funded. The game is happening. Kickstarter is only a small percentage of what a game can expect from total sales.
It's a shame how many people here don't get how Kickstarter works. I'm sure they have tons of other funding lined up.
So lets say the KS reaches $6 million. How many more sales can we realistically expect? Especially if the game isn't knock your dick in the dirt awesome?
Would you rather, as someone who has been waiting for this game, have no game than a game that isn't good?
You obviously haven't been following the news about this game lately.
I have been, I simply choose to not believe it.
Yeaaah, it's kind of weird seeing people act like this KS is flopping despite being the top gaming KS ever. >_>

Chillax. It's not a trial run, that was polygon making a transition from writing news to writing fiction.Less than 50.000 backers in one week... Looks like this game will not gonna make it, I mean, 43.000 backers is like... Nothing.

Not yet, but it is certainly on pace to be so, especially if YsNet can come up with a few more compelling Backer Rewards and can convince Asshole Sega to announce Shenmue I and II HD releases.
I know I would buy them anyways, despite owning 4 copies of the first two games,it would also compel me to increase my pledge, too if it became a tier for a Backer Reward, despite already giving way more than any game I have ever purchased.
I've been replaying Shenmue on my Dreamcast on a CRT. If they announce an HD remake, I would turn around and play it again immediately...no questions asked. I might even buy it on PC and PS4.
First 7 Days Graph (Note even though it was only up for a few hours on Monday, Kicktraq counts those hours as the first day. Each day ends/starts at 12AM EST.)

In the end, Shenmue is still on a niche. The kickstarter will get a final spike in the final hours of the campaign, but most of the fans that wanted to back it already did.

I've said this before but I don't think people take me seriously. But $6m is the absolute minimum for this campaign. Realistically we'll do $8m or more.Count me in as a skeptic.
Witcher 3 is an open world game that was are for $40 million. And it was made in Poland.
Shenmue 3 in the best case scenario gets $10 million from Kickstarter and hypothetically lets be super optimistic and assume that Sony puts in $10 million. How big of an open world game can Shenmue 3 be given that it's being are in one of the world's most ludicrously expensive cities (Tokyo). It's either going to be small or Yi Suzuki plans in using children from Pakistan as the development team.
I'm not saying this to be a dick, the game interests me and I'll probably end up buying it but if you plan on backing it, you should temper your expectations a bit. As it stands the realistic endpoint of this Kickstarter us $6 million-ish. I don't know how you make an open world game in 2015 on that budget but I'm damn interested to see how it turns out.

Puuuuuuuush
Hence, 'Puuuuuush'Both of those projections leave out the last two days of success most crowdfunded successful game campaigns get. If they make it worth people's while, the lady two days could garner a million or so...
