SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

That would be jarring to have different quality audio throughout the game. Even at $5,000, I guarantee some of those people would have terrible delivery without direction and use their iPod microphone.

You could have it done with someone from the development team directing you. I know, it could be awkward but something worth putting out there. If necessary bring over all those who pledged for that reward in a single week long session at [insert city of choice].

Threw down $250 and I'm proud. My only regret is that I can't afford to put more money into this. I've dreamed of this game for too damn long!

I'm officially in for $80. $60 physical tier, plus an additional 20 for postage / extra funding.

A bit delayed, but I didn't feel comfortable backing until I got paid, despite the money not coming out just yet.

Heh, you feel bad? I feel bad. I'd pour so much more into this if I could.

Just speculating, but the discussion right now might be whether to offer it at $60 or higher (possibly $80-100).

I imagine they won't make as much profit at $60 as they do off of the digital version at $29. Therefore, that could throw off the stretch goals/ideal $10 million, as they could reach it, but still be "short" due to less profit off of the disc.

At a higher price, it may all even out.

However, I'm just guessing here, I could be completely off on how much profit can be made from a disc version. If anyone has better insight, please chime in.

I think $60 wouldn't be the best idea at this point. You would just get all the physical PC backers switch to PS4 if they were the same price or offered under the same tier. I'm sure a lot of people would up their pledge from $29 though so that's good.

I think a $80 - $100 would be good as they can list it as a Special Limited Edition with a backer exclusive cover and maybe some extras. I'm sure people would pledge more for a steelbook too.

I guess it's hard to implement when you have a bunch of other tiers though. Because would you still get all the lower tiers if you pledge higher and get the physical PS4 with those? There's a lot to consider.

So, I have 2 questions:

1. Will the digital copy be for Steam?

2. Are the Shenmue 1 & 2 Cinema Shorts like flashbacks for newcomers?
1. that's yet to be decided, but logic dictates that yes, it will be.

2. that seems like it. it's unknown if they are going to be re-rendered clips or just footage from the existing games

I definitely agree that it is a great idea to implement in some fashion. Keep it limited to encourage backers AND to ensure that we aren't running around and encountering 100 "tourists."

Also, the other prohibitive thing could be the language itself. If an Italian fan (for example) backs it, do they teach them their lines in English/Japanese?

We don't even have English audio confirmed yet, so that could also affect an English-speaking backer.

I do hope they can get something like this as a limited reward tier.

Backed! I haven't even played the any of the Shenmue games, but somehow I really want this game to succeed. I want to show people that dreams really do come true!

Same here, I never played any of the games but as megaman legends fan I know how it feels to want a dream game such as this. I hope that this Kickstarter is sign of things to come. They're are so many amazing franchises that are sleeping at the moment that could be revived by KS.

Hey guys,

Been busy for a while and I have now completed a first draft of my very humble contribution during this KS campaign (apart from the cash of course). I've named it shenmuetalk (featuring my very own photo from when I visited Guilin in the header, in parts thanks to Shenmue II). URL is
http://shenmuetalk.wordpress.com

You might remember that I worked with a stat sheet earlier. That has now been completely revamped. Will be easier for me to update but maybe harder for you to read.

For the moment I would like to highlight a few things, the Stats, Timeline and Links-sites.

Under Stats you can always find the detailed sheet mentioned above but I have also made a few very simple percentage bar counters. As you can see I'm not even trying to be an artist here, but you are free to use and share the graphics in whatever way if you want.

Timeline and Links should be rather self-explanatory. Please tell me if you know of something else that you would like to be mentioned there, in particular planned events for the remainder of the KS, relevant texts, videos and whatnot. All in all I would like to have this as a little memory of these historical days.

My plan is now to go into some Youtube-video production. I will first focus on some quite introductory videos and then mainly focus on the KS-campaign although I hope to also talk in more detail about the older games. No promises but will do my best. Be critical, I often do many mistakes and maybe obviously do not talk/write perfect English. If you later think anything could be useful to share or use for your own work for promoting the KS you may do so. I am not asking you to spread the URL like crazy because honestly it is probably not very good yet and I'd like to at least have some video uploaded first.

Also, if anyone here is harassing Jim Sterling on Twitter over the latest Jimquisition, please stop. =)

It's something I would hope YS gives further consideration to and refined that bit more.

For those of you using a Dreamcast VGA box, can I just use a VGA to DVI adapter to get it to hook up to my monitor?

Depends on your monitor. First, that amazon description and photo makes no sense - DVI-D to VGA. DVI-D is solely digital. You'll need a DVI-A or DVI-I to VGA adapter, which according to amazon comments is what you'll get.
Take a look at the connector diagrams on Wikipedia.

DVI plugs and ports that support analog (VGA) can be recognized by the four small pins surrounding the wide flat pin on one side.

Again, check if your monitor actually does support DVI-I with analog input. If yes, an adapter should work.

Thanks, I've got a VG248QE monitor. It only has DVI-D. Does that mean I'm out of luck?

For those of you using a Dreamcast VGA box, can I just use a VGA to DVI adapter to get it to hook up to my monitor?

Depends on the monitor. I own a Dreamcast VGA cable by Tomee, but it does not work as a direct hookup between my Dreamcast and my monitor. My monitor is an Asus 1080p so it's not ancient by any means - just that the Dreamcast resolution is not supported by my monitor. Even my Samsung from 2006 does not support the cable.

So, I have an VGA to HDMI converter box that does the trick. With that box, I can also use an HDMI-DVI cable, but suffer some resolution loss.

I have a similar model to that. When I used just the Dreamcast VGA cable, nothing happened. There are a lot of threads about this on GAF, definitely check them out for more in-depth information.

What do you guys think on making another thread on why people should support the kick-starter? I'd do it but I'm going to be busy the next few days. We could maybe try and get some people on GAF to support it that aren't Shenmue fans. We could have music, character bios, basic story info, talk about why its so special etc. Yes? No?

We should not limit ourself to GAF which is why a video on Youtube will be better and we share it around social media. Also the most important thing is to push the PR to upadte their presenation of the Kickstarter.

Many people would like something similar to Bloodstained.

I think videos of the previous games showing the various aspects would go a long way. I tried to do this in the other thread and came up with these:

The fighting is awesome and is basically Virtua Fighter.

Towns are fully realized versions of Japan and Hong Kong from the late 80s.

There's an insane level of exploration.

The QTEs are a blast.

The story is epic and has us all wanting more.

for the QTE video, maybe that could be swapped out for the post-dou jiang diner QTE or the Yellow Head hallway fight? those always stuck in my mind as personally some of the more exciting ones, even though they were "one fail and you're back to the start" QTEs (which are surprisingly rare in shenmue, you either get two tries or the story plays out differently)

What would be the best way of doing a live stream of the game and taking donations that go straight to the kickstarter? Is it even possible? I think it would be fun to do two different marathon play throughs towards the end of the campaign.

I think the donations for the Kickstarter would have to be done via "honor system" (i.e. promising that they will be pledged towards the Kickstarter) or simply saying that in lieu of donations, please pledge towards the Kickstarter.

It might be neat to collect the donations yourself to see how much could possibly be raised by a livestream. It might convince other folks to do the same if it is successful.

Yeah, the one I posted is just a bunch of dodging left and right. Although I was always fond of the chase QTEs.

I'm sure there's a better one than what I found.

so did the prices of shenmue 1 go up or have they always been this high ? it seem that they are averaging 80$ for a complete copy.

They will probably be like the shenmue digest from shenmue ii:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LhQ103iJmMU

Not nearly as detailed or long as shenmue the movie, but still a good enough recap that you arent lost. Shenmue I had a lot of moment to moment plot, but not much story to cover. It was a prologue essentially. A shenmue II digest would have to be longer, as shenmue II covers much more story than the first. You join a gang, get trained on martial arts, infiltrate kowloon, become a renouned fighter by competing in a street fighting circuit in china, etc.

Thanks. Something like that would be good enough.

Full credit to ShenmueDojo user Capsule Toys Maniac for the following interview that he translated from a website called 4gamer.

There is some good information here, but there is also a character spoiler, so if you are (somehow) going to stay spoiler-free for the next few years, do NOT click it! I have added a random phrase to each spoiler so that it does not give it away simply by length.

Have you got a link back to the original post on Shenmue dojo?

To actually link people to the Kickstarter and have them pledge. I don't see the point of doing that and it's very easy for a streamer to exploit and suck money that could go to the campaign. Plus people lose their rewards any other way.

They sky rocketed on the hype. Many people are checking the games out either out of nostalgia or because of hype for the first time due to the KS.

From the Kickstarter page comments:

Please be parody
Please be parody
Please be parody
People are trolling hard now.

So I pledged for the artbook tier. After the KS ends, will they send me info on whether or not I want a PC digital, pc physical or ps4 digital right? This is my first time pledging for anything.

You would think with how old the games are people trying to get the word out would be old enough to know that spamming "celebrities" with Shenmue 3 posts is a pretty shitty and immature thing to do. Some of the comments on the Kickstarter are crazy. I'm just hiding in here and Shenmue Dojo.

Ren of Heavens has to be my favorite Shenmue character. Yu Suzuki said Shenhua was his, but Ren of Heavens is way cooler.

My favorite moment is when he comes to see you in the street fight for support, and you see him make a bet. And then, when you eventually win, you thank him for his help and he's like "Bastard! Because you won, I lost my money!"

lol

Part of the problem with being shown on sony's conference I guess. A lot of exposure, but well. It IS a lot of exposure.
