I'm not bothered at all! My top choice didn't fit the role
Dylan
but I didn't like Butterfield that much in Enders Game (probably the scripts fault).

I hope he has a big role in Civil War.

I mean...

It's barely even caricature. If someone drew him at a funfair...

Fixed.

This dude is 19, gonna be 21 by the time the first Spidey film rolls out. I was hoping we would get 15 year old Peter like in Ultimate, and I'd rather them actually have a 15 year old play him.
Makes no sense when they're not doing an origin story.

No one needs that.

This is kind of funny if one of the factors in the decision

Who was the actor that flew to Atlanta that same Saturday to help with the screen testings? That’s Robert Downey Jr.. As everyone knows, Downey has a reputation for his talent, charisma in his stunning portrayal of Tony Stark. However he is also known for being relatively short, standing at 5ft 8in tall to be precise. Can you picture the skinny Asa Butterfield (6’0’’) screen testing with Robert Downey Jr. (5’8’’)? Tom Holland in the other hand is shorter than Robert Downey Jr. (5'7''). While that wasn't the main reason that Holland got the role instead of Butterfield, it certainly didn't hurt Tom's case to look good next to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's main man. Back on June 3rd, when Asa Butterfield posted on twitter #6ftclub four days after the screen-testing happened, he already knew that Marvel and Sony wouldn’t need him on set back in Atlanta.

Also, why are people bitching about the directing choice? You've seen nothing from him, and most director's start out with an indie(hell, Favreau started out with Swingers), or something small(or terrible, like the the Russo Brothers). It's not like giving the film to someone with a ton of experience is gonna automatically make for some classic shit, which is certainly well documented.

Yeah cause clearly he ages at least 3 or 4 years immediately after the origin story. No room for any other stories in the meantime.

The pushback against a young spidey is so hilarious to me. Doesn't matter now though. Tom is a strong choice and the age thing is long past decided.

Just chilling each time the world has almost come to an end, haha.

Battle of New York was 2011, he'll be max 17 in the new movie (and probably more like 15 on the verge of 16) in Civil War. Putting his origin in and around somewhere between 2014-2015 a good 3 years after the Battle of New York. Avengers 2 was outside of New York so he wouldn't be there anyway.

Note to self: Don't joke with comic book fans.

Good lord, I don't care about the timeline.

Another white teenage Peter Parker Spider-Man is inherently boring to me at this point, but I'm interested to see how Marvel handles him.

After Russo Brothers I trust Marvel's director choices. The Onion background is cool.

People make fun of this kid for his mole(which he doesn't even have anymore) are real fucking gross. Are in high school or something. Jesus.

I agree. As someone who does have a mole on their face it's really sad to read. Borderline offensive really.

I just feel bad for Tom cause now he has to hear all these comments for the next howevermany months until his first appearance as Spidey leaks online and people finally shut up about it.

But as an actor, he made the right choice to have it removed cause it gives him way more role possibilities, i'm sure.

I really like the way he looks. He just looks like a normal, friendly young guy. Not too model-esque. That's all I really want out of a Peter Parker.

But that's...Peter Parker. What other kind of Peter were you expecting?

I just see any facial condition in photos as proof of him still being young. Not like that's something people will see anyway with makeup.

This also.

Director has me super worried, and I'm not feeling it for the actor either. I hope to be surprised but yikes, it feels like they're cheaping out on the talent for their premier franchise.

I haven't seen anything this kid or director have done so I can't really comment on the choice. Interesting though, since Holland seems a little bit older than I figured they were casting for. Figured they'd get a 16-17 year old.

Another?

Original Trilogy didn't even make it through the first before he was in college.

And he finished high school in ASM 2 and Garfield is 30.

Teenager was hardly the defining characteristic of either
