The Impossible was a pretty good film. He'll have plenty of guidance from Kevin Feige/Marvel as well.Bigger deal seems like the bargain bin director. Does he have any upside at all?

Why you gotta be so rude? Don't you know he's Spider-human too?
Kind of surprised they didn't go with a director with more of a resume than Watts. You would think Sony would want to go with the safest possible choice... that's a lot of money to bank on Watts.
Commenting on the announcement, Tom Rothman, Sony Pictures Motion Pictures Group Chairman, said, Its a big day here at Sony. Kevin, Amy and their teams have done an incredible job. The Marvel process is very thorough, and thats why their results are so outstanding. Im confident Spider-Man will be no exception. Ive worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent. For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Toms screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start.

Those old photos of him aren't going to help get people on his side. I hated him when I googled his pics but after seeing his instagram I can see it.
Need to schedule a photo shoot to show how he looks now.

I don't know much about Directors, but wasn't Joss Whedon and Shane Black both relatively unknown when they were announced for Avengers and Ironman 3 respectively? I wouldn't worry too much about these "bargain bin" directors.

Universal Studios picked a directed who literally only directed 1 indie film prior to doing Jurassic World and that paid off PHENOMENALY for them. Credentials don't matter. Would you really want Brett Ratner, McG, Mike Newell, etc. direct this film just because they have more movies/experience under their belt?
It's a great flick that I can recommend highly.Well, now I have to watch The Impossible.
Have to agree that those old pics don't do justice, but based on his Insta he def. looks like a pretty good choice. That height difference between him and Hemsworth is crazy though.
You guys making fun of a teenager that used to have acne and a mole are the worst kind of people in existence, so, enjoy going through life with that knowledge.

I think the best part about this announcement are the Tumblr reactions. Seriously, some of them are gold.
On-topic, I'm sure Tom will do great.

Never had acne or mole during adolescence, I consider myself lucky. But you are right. You guys making fun of a teenager that used to have acne and a mole are the worst kind of people in existence, so, enjoy going through life with that knowledge.
So he's had the chin mole removed like the A list stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Enrique Igloos-ears before him.A more recent pic
I hope, that like my post, they are posting with some irony. You guys making fun of a teenager that used to have acne and a mole are the worst kind of people in existence, so, enjoy going through life with that knowledge.
That chin wart already bothers me

Goddamn, Hems has a good foot up on the kid lol.

Hemsworth is a fucking big dude man and the kid is short.
Shocking I tell you, shocking.
Whedon was already popular but never directed a movie before Avengers
So.... I'm a bit out of the loop.
Why are they doing another Spiderman movie so soon? The last one didn't even have a trilogy. I only saw the first movie, did the series conclude properly?
Is this reboot and another origin story? It's hard for me seeing a lot of people getting excited about a new Spiderman so soon.
