Persona 5 Trailer 2

Wonder who that hand coming at Anne is

Digital store is region locked and I'm not even sure if making a fake NA account will unlock it.

Nah, you definitely can create a North American account and just log through that, buy stuff and play it from your regular European account. On PS4 at least. That doesn't work for Vita though.

I definitely think Sony would have given Atlus a couple minutes of their show to present a new trailer and that would have been huge. Especially considering this is one of the few Sony exclusive games coming this year and Persona trailers are always exciting spectacles. But this bizarre Atlus Japan mindset of desperately attempting to get a very small number of diehard fan sales from this preorder bonus really messed it all up.

This new trailer is up on most major gaming sites, and shows up as the first few results when you google Persona 5. Except now that it's post E3, a far fewer number of people are actually checking these websites. This whole situation is mindboggling the more you think about it.

Absolutely, and it's funny to see people go 'b-but Atlus is still a small company!' or 'b-but it still got the job done!'

Atlus Japan fucked up a golden opportunity to increase the profile of Persona because they wanted to play corporate isolationism. The entire virtue of packing a P5 trailer as a pre-order disk was pointless instead of dropping it at E3, because contrary to what people believe, nobody except hardcore Persona fans cared for P4D the minute the CD was announced. so they're cannibalizing sales already, and any hype P4D had is gone.

I've neglected to post this considering it's more or less ancedotal, but one of the members of Persona-GAF posted after E3 what was essentially this comment from what was a former Atlus USA employer:

Because then Atlus JP would have to admit that it has a market outside of Japan, and give their US branch some respect.

It's fairly telling that even within Atlus USA, there is potential strife and conflict about how the Japan head offices conduct themselves by trying to get the masses interested in this game. As I and many others have said in this thread time and time again, this isn't 1999 anymore. And Japan isn't going to pay all the bills. For fuck's sake, half of the sales of Persona games since what, 3, have been outside the Japan. This favoritism has gotta stop, because other bigger to mid level Japanese developers have adopted. Atlus haven't.

The game is not coming out this year. I have a hard time believing that this game will come out this year when there is so little information and no solid date with half of the year being over.

One of the few things we do know is that Atlus has reconfirmed that it will be 2015.

If they don't release it within 2015, then it's a pretty good bet Atlus is going to get a horde at their door. But for now, that's the safest bet to make. The real question is what month (or months, if the US version comes out later) the game will come out. There's only two real options. October or December.

I believe it will. Winter is months away. The flood gates will be opening very soon.

I'd be relatively certain Japan gets it.

But NA is still more ethereal. It's entirely possible we'll see a minimal time between localization, or even possibly simultaneous (though I doubt the latter), IF the scuttlebutt/rumors about P4D's delay delaying P5's media push has any truth to it, but unless we get a big info dump in the next month or so, it could theoretically still slide.

However, Atlus has, generally, been pretty tight-lipped (moreso than Bethesda with Fallout 4, for instance), on their major info push --> release date in terms of timing.

Still cautiously optimistic, personally.

It really depends on how much work is already done behind the scenes, which the Persona team doesn't generally show until the answer is pretty much 'all of it'.

they haven't been tightlipped about "2015"

Meh, I'm pretty optimistic that it's gonna be released this fall in Japan and a few months later, maybe Dec, for NA to keep that 2015 release. This summer is gonna be nothing but hardcore P5 marketing now that P4Dan is out. I expect some more info in the coming weeks.

Atlus works in mysterious ways.

It's coming.

I wonder if we will have a blowout of persona 5 related news within the upcoming days/week whenever atlus decides to upload the trailer .

Pretty likely, now that P4dan is out of the way. When does the next issue of dek-whatever it's called come out? Next month? And the Persona mag?

I want to believe that now Dancing All Night is out of the way, we'll start seeing more stuff leading up to the release, much like they did for all the previous spinoff games.

I doubt it. It won't be weekly articles in Famitsu like P4D or Ultimax. Maybe monthly...definitely won't be this drip feed anymore.

Thought this trailer would be longer.

Still though, I'm liking how stylish everything is, great art direction and music. I eventually got burned out with Persona 3 and 4 and had to struggle to get the motivation to finish them, but I'm almost definitely going to end up buying this too even if it ends up going the same way, lol.

Myself, I honestly expected a small (1-2 minutes) trailer for E3 to co-exist with a much larger (8-15 minutes) trailer to be given with Dancing All Night. Of course, now that we know that the trailer included itself is only two minutes.... that obviously wasn't happening. :P

I'm sure that Atlus US would've loved to have new footage as well since it would've most likely have meant that they would've had the trailer running during Sony's conference. But Atlus Japan obviously has a plan for how they want to release media for the game, so that's how things will work. But things should be picking up on their end now that P4D is out. P5 is their next big release.

Atlus Japan can work really fast when they want to, and they don't necessarily need big shows to do that. Some are worried about the release date now, but it's worth remembering that they simply announced the release date for Catherine on its blog.

I'm curious about how many companions we'll get. Hopefully more than the three shown.

Probably the same amount as the last two games? (8) Tho they might change things up for P5. We know for sure we'll have more party members that haven't been shown according to the devs.(I always forget their actually names, sorry! )

Seems like they're still in the mindset of other niche Japanese devs like IF/CH, NIS, and Gust, where they act like only a relative handful of nerds give a fuck about their games outside of Japan. While that is basically true for those three as well as most of Atlus' stuff, it's not the case for mainline Persona games anymore. Persona is basically the second most popular JRPG franchise in the west at this point, not that that's saying much.

Absolutely, and this sort of thinking is going to kill the series if Atlus continues.

According to what, internet reactions or sales numbers?

Because if it's sales numbers, you're way off based on what we know from NPDs.

That isn't to say things couldn't change.

I still don't understand the 2015 release date . Maybe it's because they are pushing for ps4 now also?

The orginal trailer with the chairs had the game listed for just PS3 and would release in winter 2014...

Either way I'm pretty sure we will gettin it in 2015. Atlus always just shows off the game a little and then depend on fan base and word of mouth for sales. Even though e3 could have possibly helped them

I mean, I agree, but at the same time, refusing to nail down a date, or even a quarterly window, (especially when localization usually means multiple month waits, even for Atlus, who is generally pretty quick), doesn't exactly bode well. Some of that is conditioning from the multitude of other delays that have plagued last year and continuing into now, admittedly.

Like I said, I'm still cautiously optimistic, but I'd put an NA release much closer to December rather than October if we stick to a 2015 release.

Not that 2015 is somehow a bad thing, lol.

Niche Japanese developers tend to work on short marketing cycles. Just look at Gust- they announced a game yesterday that's releasing in September, for fuck's sake.

I mean, that's basically the core of the issue here- Atlus JP is treating the next game in what's arguably the second-most popular JRPG franchise in the world like it's a Neptunia or Atelier game.

It's the sort of thinking that's going to kill most Japanese developers and publishers (at least outside of Japan) if it continues.

And yet, the big ones have adapted. It's the smaller ones such is NIS and Atlus that haven't. In Atlus's case it's especially worrying, because you're dealing with quite possibly the best rising JRPG out there.

In terms of pure fandom, it's certainly one of the fastest growing alongside Fire Emblem.

Yeah, and I'd argue that NPD numbers are a bad measure of Persona's popularity considering that the last main line game in the series released on a console that had been "last-gen" for 2-3 years at that point, a portable that basically bombed outside of Japan, and as a port to a platform that was "last-gen" for ~6 months when it released. P5 will basically be the first legit test of the series' popularity. And I may be proven wrong by said test, which is fine, but I hope I'm not.

It's a sad state of affairs.
Persona is definitely a popular enough global brand to be treated with respect on an international level. It doesn't deserve to be run through 90's Japanese marketing while the USA branch just watches (and European publishers just, uh... do nothing)

Agreed. You can quote the sales numbers all day long, but Persona as a series has been slow to catch up. Fandom noise is a better idea dealing with Persona.

And yet some people in this very thread will just plug their fingers in their ears and just say "Atlus, shrug"

This needs to stop. It really does.

I don't have enough experience to really know the ins and outs of marketing, and whether this is acceptable or not. I just know as a fan of games, this isn't what I normally experience for a game coming out supposedly in 5-6 months.

I know I'm biased, in that I really want this game badly. Like more than any game that has ever come out. I'm not even joking. This series means so much to me. And I've been dying for a new game in the series. So I know I'm biased.

But I still have not experience this with any other games. =/

Look at Fallout 4. We had NOTHING until this E3, and then "boom November release date"
