Warner Brothers suspends [new] purchases for PC version of Batman Arkham Knight

I'm sure sale suspension has happened before on Steam, but not for such a high profile game like this. Holy shit. That's bad. They knew damn well the condition the game was in but didn't care. They just assumed nobody should would make a big enough stink about it and it would be something that could easily be swept under the rug. Guess not, lol

This will be remembered and stay in memory for quite a while.

Sounds like these people aren't too familiar with the Internet.

Holy shit. With WB's nickle-&-dime sales approach it wouldn't surprise me if they charged more for the "New & Improved version that actually works".

Seriously tho, is this unprecedented?

People who bought cheap, grey market keys, or thought the game was terrible and didn't refund/bought the console version as well. You are part of the problem. Good job.

The last official numbers for Arkham City say it sold over 6 million units. Steamspy has it as 2.5 million copies sold on Steam. AAA development is too expensive to ignore such a large market, you are basically kneecapping yourself for 1/3'd of your sales potential.

Some people don't seem to understand that the core/AAA games market isn't a growth market anymore. Budgets go up but the amount of people buying those games, while large, is not growing but consolidating. I always smile when people say things like Final Fantasy's comparatively lower sales on XBO are leading SE to abandon the platform or similar, because even only 30% of sales is something publishers can't afford to ignore these days. In a consolidating market the absolute worst thing a AAA developer can do is remove avenues for profit and remove potential consumers, it's just not done. There's a reason why all the big third party exclusives are wrapped up in a platform holder's money. A whole lot of people are wrapped up in a platform war rhetoric and are oblivious to the industry around them.

I wish they would stop suggesting it's only some users experiencing issues, the port is shit and while some users are happy to find a way to play it is still shit full stop.

You are going to see more AAA games not release on PC now or just delay.

The costs of AAA games have gotten so high that almost nobody can afford not to release PC versions. At most they might delay, but I would guess this is more likely to force them to actually get competent PC devs to handle the ports or do the porting internally.

I think we shouldn´t be praising WB for removing the game from sales, they should´ve made sure they weren´t releasing a broken game in the first place. Also, this decision is surely the only way they could stop all the negative backlash when they still are in time: things will cool down and ratings and reviews may go up in the future, but leaving the game as it is now would had only caused the ratings and game perception to sink even deeper to an unrecoverable point. That and not getting any money due to Steam refunds.

They didn´t care that the game was a mess at release, so it´s hard for me to believe that they´re doing this now because "We greatly value our customers".

Good... on them? I haven't bought the game, but have loosely followed the negative reception this game is getting. Its a bold step, so thats good to see.

I think he mean people who bought PC version at first (which doesn't work very well) then ended up buying a console copy instead.
Yeah, that'll show them indeed.

I bought in on PS4 as well. I have no problem with that. Rocksteady made a fantastic game that I want to play and they deserve this game to do well.

If they're not going to release games on PC or delay them because they're broken then that can only be a good thing.

Not releasing crap is better than the situation we got now, delay for a better product is better than the premature release of the shit we got.

What are you trying to accomplish with this post, exactly? Claim that everyone who didn't buy the game on Steam is as responsible for this debacle as WB/Iron Galaxy? Nice.

Has Rocksteady ever worked on a pc port or has all the Arkham games been given to other studios to port?

I'm curious who will be doing the fix up on this version. There is the possibility they will still go back to Iron Galaxy since they had the contract and WB may want to force them to fix it which would be the cheapest solution for them.

Rocksteady has released garbage in the past with AC's DX11 mode.

I have no idea why these people couldn't have seen how obviously terrible this PC port was. How the fuck could they be so obtuse as to actually release the damn thing?

They probably thought along the lines of release the borked product and let the suckers buy it. We'll patch /fix it eventually. They must have forgotten that refunds are officially a thing now on steam etc.

Shoudla woulda coulda, too late, they already did release it broken. So they could do nothing and tell people to please understand while they perhaps futilely tried to patch it, or suspend sales so no one else gets stuck with it. I'm not saying they deserve much praise, but they did do something right even if they started with a massive wrong, and they do deserve just an iota of credit for that. They certainly have enough blame in their direction that that tiny sliver isn't going to leave them smelling like roses through this kerfluffle.

I'm guessing this means an actual working pc port is weeks, maybe even months away? If it was within the next week wouldn't they let people keep buying it and tell them to wait for the patch?

I was referring to people who thought the PC version was terrible so ran out and bought the console version in addition i.e giving WB twice the money for a crap port.

Just because the PC port is poor doesn't mean the game isn't great. For a lot of people it's far more important to enjoy a great game than to "send a message" to publishers. I got the game for PC with the Nvidia promotion and am one of the lucky ones who is actually getting a solid, very playable experience on PC. If I wasn't though, I would have gone out and bought the PS4 version, because Arkham Knight is clearly a great game and I want to play it.

Pulled from Steam?

I, er, fairplay to them. They are no longer willing to sell the shitty version. That takes some courage. Good move.

WOW, did not expect this. That dev must be getting some volcano type heat right now. Still, it's the right thing to do till it's fixed

I don't know, some companies are just completely blind to issues.

When Strangers Wrath got ported to PC a few years ago it ran like complete shit even on really good machines. One of the dead from Just Add Water posted on Gaf and was like "well we tested it on a few machines and it all worked fine on those ones."

Granted, they were a lot smaller developer than the guys making Batman, but that game and the reaction from that developer on here really showed me that some people really are just ignorant of the faults of their game, whether from lack of actual testing like Just Add Water did with that game, or only caring about meeting a release date like Batman seems to be.

i think the shareholders saw the refunds and decided to damage control so people who buy it at a later time won't refund once it's fixed up a bit. And no more negative reviews.

I was thinking exactly this. I will finish the game before the patch comes out I'm sure.

Clarification, GTAV sold 1 million units on Steam in the first week. It may have gotten close to doubling that number due to all retail copies activating on Rockstar Social Club.

To tell you the truth, Rockstar would of had to deal with a lot of shit too if Steam refunds existed at the time of its release. Social Club is a piece of shit software and there were many people who couldn't even activate their games because of it.

Why though? I'm sure devs and QA had documented the problems, they're too prevelant not to have. Ultimately it was WB's decision to put it out in the state they did.

I was referring to people who thought the PC version was terrible so ran out and bought the console version in addition i.e giving WB twice the money for a crap port.

I pretty sure the people who bought the PC version first, and got the console version after witnessing the mess the game is on PC, got a Steam-refund first and I'm also pretty confident Steam is not refunding those purchases out of it's own pockets, but relaying those costs to WB, so WB is not seeing double the money, if anything, WB is seeing shitloads of people dissapointed with the PC port, but still excited enough about an excellent game to buy it on a different platform.

nah they dont value customers , only money - its obvious when you see which DRM it ues and the quality of the port - this is just damage control

They were offering refunds when GTA 5 was released, they had a notice on Steam that refunds are available until the first patch is released to fix the RSC issue.

But! But! Consumer outrage and whining does not matter?

I hope all the tools saying this in the future would finally shut up. Though i think the whole xbone fiasco was enough empirical proof.

It looks like it is still being advertised for nvidia cards . Just checked ebuyer.

I wonder what nvidia will do about this.
(Got it free with my gtx 970 and it's really bad!)

I've boycotted Warner Bros. Interactive since Arkham Origins. This just reinforces my notion that they can't be trusted to offer consumers a finished, quality product. But they'll sure as hell try to sell you the unfinished product, till they're backed up against a wall.

Shadow of Mordor was a good PC port though.
It was so good I could run it at High Settings+30 FPS lock and had no issues.
I could play with unlocked framerate but it would fluctuate and not stick at 60 FPS.

It just baffles me how they couldn't get the same people who did Mordor to do the Batman AK port, or at least make the port to similar quality as Mordor :/
