Hopefully the Twitch stream is a sign of them engaging with the community and trying to pump new life into the campaign.

Yeah i dont get it, less than 50k backers is super sad. I know the originals werent the biggest hits, but shenmue 1 sold over 1 million copies. There should be more backers 100%. Shame on anyone who played shenmue and isnt backing this lol

What pains me about all this is that 'Kickstarter to gauge interest' is such a stupid idea people shouldn't even assume it. No-one is doing Kickstarters just to gauge interest except very rare cases where it still acts like a pre-order mechanism at worst. Kickstarters are terrible as tools for measuring public interest for commercial release.

Way too early. Put it up a couple of hours before at most. The longer a thread for a specific thing sits there, without the thing having actually taken place the more likely it is to turn into a shitshow. Especially with how even the minimal Sony involvement has rubbed some people the wrong, you could be looking at a thread that's pages and pages of concern trolling, 'lol, this will never get to $10m' and such like before it even starts.
 
Put $120 at the moment because it's the most I know I can afford. Funds permitting I'll try and put it up to $180-$200 before the end though.

I'm hoping Twitch puts them up on the front page. Honestly though, Twitch chat isn't the best and I'm hoping they know to expect trolls like "I'm not funding Sony," that sorta thing.
 
I don't even need a huge open world. Just finish your story. 5 million I believe is reasonable to be comparable to the DC version. Especially if he needed 2 million from the get go.

Its very easy to ignore the naysayers and patiently anticipate a birth of something beautiful, but you're absolutely right. You guys screamed SHENMUE 3 and DREAMCAST 2, 9/9/99 for decades. It's implanted in my brain the amount of love you all showed this series, and it seems like everyone is just pissing on the parade because it's not how they wanted it to be done, or its not where they wanted it to be. So many folks new to the series or new to Kickstarter are losing their collective shit.

They should'be just given him a CGI trailer, dual-welding guns and some sponge-bullets to complete the picture. That'll surely keep everyone talking positively. Add a $69.99 price tag with a "PREORDER NOW TO GET THE LEATHER JACKET! ONLY AT BEST BUY!", and some "PREORDER NOW TO GET 4 NEW MINI-GAME CHALLENGE MAPS, ONLY AT EB GAMES!". That'll make everyone happy...

Events in and around the industry has made me approach things with a cynical attitude, like many others, I imagine. While some amount of skepticism is healthy, the frequent negativity just gets tiresome, you know? This is one of the rare games that I simply can not feel cynical about. And it is so good. Other people may still be incapable of leashing their negativity, and that's sad and frustrating, but ultimately nothing can make me feel anything but happy about the overall situation, this kickstarter, and this game, being a reality.

They should really release that Shenmue I and II cinema short during the kickstarer campaign. Would stir some type of interest or catch up for those who haven't played the first two.

Exactly this. I whined on twitter at Sega, Sony and Microsoft to make this a reality for years. I insisted to all my friends over and over again that Shenmue is the greatest game ever made. No one will take away the amazing fact that this game is now real. No negative bullshit from any media or forum naysayer is going reign in this parade.
 
So I just went up from $60 to $300. I might go up to $500 before it ends but the only thing that might hold me back is that my daughter's birthday is next month so I'll need some funds for that as well. Hopefully I'll get a little OT at my job from now till then.

I won't be able to watch the live stream on Twitch, but someone must ask of the Tomato Convenience Stores (and their theme song) will be back in Shenmue III.

The Tomato Mart theme is his favorite song, so it will probably be in there somewhere. Choubu is supposed to be a tourist location, so maybe that's where we'll find it.

And I searched the thread to see if anyone else shared my sentiment (a couple did ^_^), but I'd be giddy if Takenobu Mitsuyoshi returned to do some music for this game. Like, super giddy.
