First Reactions To Ant-Man

If Ant-Man is a Marvel heist movie, I'm in. It just makes sense, Ant-Man becomes small, imagine the things he could steal or break into!

Ant-Man was a heist movie since it was first conceived. The entire movie is about breaking into somewhere to steal something. The main character is someone who went to jail for breaking into places to steal stuff. Lol.

gee, some people sure love to shitpost in every Marvel thread. Like Ahasverus here misinterpreting a twitter post to use as another excuse to hate on Marvel

I think literally every Marvel thread from the last couple of months have a bunch people just randomly saying Ultron is shit, whether or not it has anything to do with the topic. You do realize it has generally positive reviews from critics and average moviegoers alike? You're all in the minority thinking it's a shit movie.

Well people thought The Dark Knight was some amazingly intelligent piece of crime drama so who cares what most people think.

I'd really like to see a third act of a superhero movie that didn't devolve into a numbing incomprehensible CGI fest for once.

The boat scene was shit, but the harvey/Gordon/batman end was fantastic

Honestly the battle of words in the ends of TDK and DOFP was a lot more engaging to me than the third act basura we've seen in marvel movies and man of steel. There was great character shit going on in the former movies

CGI is all good but when it's just lazily used to fill every frame with explosions and nonsense it becomes a boring ass cartoon. At least give us some visually great action scenes and inventive stuff if you're gonna blow your load like that

Edit: I pray to God some garbage ass doomsday doesn't end up being the threat in batman v superman

The Ocean's Eleven comparisons might be some of the best comparisons I could have hoped for post-Wright.

A great 3rd act could really help this movie. Not that I hate or dislike any Marvel 3rd acts, but I often feel their 3rd acts filled with action often don't properly do justice to what might be great 1st and 2nd acts and in turn cause people to not want to give the movies any credit for what they do right because of it.

I guess its just reactions but talking about an after credits scene when judging a movie is hilarious and really puts some perspective on these

With how much emphasis is put on credit scenes these days (and often lack thereof or not being surprising enough), it makes sense the people seeing them early and intact are going to comment on them, especially if they are good.

Seems some people practically ONLY care about the credit scenes since the expectations are hints of the future or hinting at ways that the MCU ties together. Never found that to be a good way to look at them, but I know it's pretty true judging by some responses to some recent movies with lackluster credit scenes.

I'm kinda worried that this will be a heist film in the most loose terms.

I think we can parse out the general progression of this movie to the point where it'll follow the: chance for redemption - gathering the players - montage - the actual heist - confrontation with the villian setup.

I mean, that's basically a heist movie, but at the end of the day it's going to be more like a superhero origin story than anything.

A couple more

ImperatorHitFixDrew @DrewAtHitFix
"Ant-Man" is hugely entertaining, and a truly significant puzzle piece in the Marvel Universe. This one's got a big sweet heart.

ErikDavis @ErikDavis
So I saw ANT-MAN & I dug it! Most inventive action scenes yet & tons of heart. A softer, more intimate #Marvel movie and a great family film

Edward Douglas @EDouglasWW
I liked Ant-Man more than I did Avengers: Age of Ultron, mainly because Marvel's doing something different and it works as a stand-alone

The most positive thing for me about the tweet impressions so far is that a number of them mention heart. It's good to know that the family-centric tone of the story has been retained and seems to actually show off well in the film. It's certainly the most unique aspect of the story as was promised, more so than being a heist film.

Sounds like Whedon should have used some Pym Particles to make that smaller sequel he originally intended AoU to be.

Nice to see people are liking it

The preview footage they showed at Jurassic World IMAX was really well received by my audience, lots of laughter. People were into it

I'm definitely gonna rent this though to see the vestiges of wrights script and action scenes. Love the gun scene in the trailers, it's so unique

And I'm a fan of michael Douglas and bobby canavale

I'm the most excited by all of the macro camera work that they did for this film. Just seeing everyday objects from a tiny creature's perspective is really cool.

If this movie really has heart, I'll really like it. It'll also be a huge surprise, as it has some of the most soulless trailers I've ever seen.

Definitely. I'm digging that and the mentions that it tries to be different.

Who gives a fuck what critics think? I love how so many Gaffers bring up critics in MCU threads but yet will defend Speed Racer and say critics got that one wrong.

Also, the average film-goer likes the Transformers films.

Agreed.

This new TV spot managed to make me chuckle: https://youtu.be/d-TYXBkThdQ

lol okay that was cool. Marvel should have had this type of stuff in the trailer instead of making it look like just another comic book movie.

While others say it's not bad as it is forgettable, I think it's just bad:

- Doesn't even try to be a film that glues Phase 2 together
- Invalidates every film to come before it
- Some films have plot holes, but this film has PLOT HOLES that are not even explained at all beyond "this needs to happen"
- Characters are just in this film because it's an Avengers film

Probably more to do with Whedon than Marvel.

This movie could be universally loved by everyone but you and you'd still pretend like your impression was the only one that's legitimate. This is sadly the default response of the overwhelming majority of gaf.
Eh I'd say the only time I'm completely against the majority is about GOTG (It's not for it being Marvel, I certainly don't get it at all) most of the time I follow the mainstream one way or another. See, this movie is now getting praises for having "heart", this pleases me greatly, with that I don't care if the movie is or isn't better than Age of Ultron, if it resonates on a personal level, it's a win on my books. That didn't seem to be the case (The allegations of dumbing down) but who knows, maybe the new director salvaged it.

I agree AoU was a dissapointment, but the bar was set so low for Ant-man that it would really be surprising if it turned out to be a bad/boring film.

Come on, Rudd alone is a better actor than most of the actors of the MCU, even RDJ (the best of the bunch by far) has fallen into self-parody of later, people are getting tired of seeing him, this is a breath of fresh air. Also Evangeline Lilly with dat hairdo. Hhhhnnnnngggggg.

I would like for the Thanos movies that Red Skull returns. The MCU lacks good villains when Loki became a joke after The Avengers. I liked Jeff Bridges A LOT in the original IM, but he is not coming back :S

He's worth a mute.

Like with who? What constitutes "a lot?"

And why does it even matter if someone likes Speed Racer? Critics apparently don't matter, audience opinion doesn't matter, so why do you care so much?

I'm just pointing out a lot of people on Gaf only bring up critics and audience when it helps their cause. I don't care about them. If you can't articulate why a film works for you then I don't care what you think.

How much is Marvel paying you, Kaep? I can't believe you've betrayed us all.

lol j/k

lol no really that was a funny clip.

Although I am annoyed the male minorities of the cast seem to be thieves while all the business men are white dudes.

Iron Man Trilogy: Sci Fi Action
Thor 1 & 2: High Fantasy
Captain America: First Avenger: War Movie
The Incredible Hulk: Monster Movie
Avengers: Alien/Robot Invasion movie
Guardians of the Galaxy: Sci Fi Adventure
Captain America: The Winter Soldier: Espionage Action
Ant-Man: Heist movie
Agents of SHIELD/Agent Carter: Spy series
Daredevil: Street Drama

Marvel keeps it fresh.
But I'm not satisfied until I get my Courtroom Fantasy Action movie starring She-Hulk.
