First Reactions To Ant-Man

I feel kinda bad for Peyton Reed. If the movie is successful, people will chalk it up to Edgar Wright's script, early art direction, etc. If it's a flop, people will just say, "See? Shouldn't have fired Edgar Wright!". I don't think he can win.

ive been saying that since the moment this debacle began. all the positive things attached to this movie will be contributed to wright, while all the negative will be attached to him. he was losing since he picked up the script

These early impressions aren't exactly filling me with confidence. One review said the after credit scene is the highlight, another wants to friendzone the film, and a third said it's bad.

I wouldn't be marinating any crows just yet.

He didn't say it is the highlight, just that it is a must see after credit scene.

Those early impressions don't seem promising; consider how rare it is for early impressions of a summer blockbuster to be lukewarm.

I'm willing to give it a chance, regardless of the production issues. It looks like it could be a lot of fun, but not everyone's cup of tea.

I'm excited.

The superior bug themed superhero is referenced in this movie.

Ant-Man taking all the L's, big and small.

EDIT: oops lol

It's best if people go in fresh for this. Yeah, presecreening reviews give a hint to films like Furious 7 and Kingsman but I believe some said Ultron and Jurassic was good too.

Prescreening previews are given to sites that generally favor comic book movies or blockbusters in general. The marketing department does a good job of selecting who to go watch it.

Funny thing is when I saw Winter Soldier the dude from Marvel said they purposely invited some people that didn't like the first Cap movie. That's how much faith they had in the film.

I think that was a deliberate part of their marketing as well. They were trying hard to differentiate the two Captain America films, so inviting critics who didn't like the first one seems to be a good way to get early word out that it's a totally different type of movie.

The fools at Marvel. If only just let Edgar Wright do his thing. I have no doubt it would have rivalled Nolan for best comic book film.

No doubt.

DC and Marvel stans need to learn to chill and play nice.

Anyway I'm expecting middling reviews for this. First reactions tend to be mostly positive.

As time passes, I feel this to be less and less true. I dislike AoU more and more each time I think about it. It's a funny thing. Like, when I watched Tomorrowland, they played the Ant-Man trailer, and I was discussing with a friend if it would be better than AoU, and we both agreed that it probably would be because "that wouldn't be hard".

Funny, this is how I also felt about the first Avengers. So far, the big crowning ensemble flicks of the whole MCU - what you might even say the whole point of an MCU to begin with was - are pretty mediocre and hold up less and less upon repeated viewings and more scrutiny.

Oh, Joss, your best work will forever remain Buffy, I feel.

I actually haven't seen Ultron yet lol was it really that bad?

While others say it's not bad as it is forgettable, I think it's just bad:

- Doesn't even try to be a film that glues Phase 2 together
- Invalidates every film to come before it
- Some films have plot holes, but this film has PLOT HOLES that are not even explained at all beyond "this needs to happen"
- Characters are just in this film because it's an Avengers film

Was really hyped for AoU but this was exactly how I felt leaving the cinema. It had some moments that were good but overall just a huge letdown.

How does it invalidate every film that came before it? Hyperbole.

I enjoyed Ultron more than avengers 1. Sorry everyone.

I need to see it a few more times to say for sure but I think I probably enjoyed it more as well.

The test footage he shot was promising, it actually got me excited about a superhero movie.
Too bad they didn't work it out.

I'm a huge Marvel and MCU fan and Age of Ultron were both forgettable and bad. It is one of those films that annoys me afterward.

Though I have always been much more excited about Ant-Man, yet I'm afraid it'll have yet another barebones villain.

Obviously taking this with a grain of salt, but it's at least promising.

I want to note that some of the minor things that aren't explained in AoU are actually done so in the Agents of SHIELD show (e.g. how the Avengers found Strucker's base at the beginning).

That magic pool shit was the last straw. One of the worst scenes in recent memory.

Despite how early reactions should probably be taken with a grain of salt, I'm sure the movie will be fine. Not spectacular, but the most 'standard' superhero movie we've seen from them in afew years.

I just came to the sad realisation that the only Marvel Studio films I've missed in cinemas have been Iron Man 2 and The Incredible Hulk. This probably won't be number three, though Edgar Wright's shadow looms large.

He already made Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, man.
