Gotta love Fox News. Instead of discussing how the Republican candidates for president all currently oppose gay marriage, they waste time talking about how Obama and Clinton used to oppose it.

No issue brings out so much hatred from so many Catholics as homosexuality. Even after over 25 years as a Jesuit, the level of hatred around homosexuality is nearly unbelievable to me, especially when I think of all of the wonderful LGBT friends I have.

The Catholic church must do a much better job of teaching what the Catechism says: that we should treat our LGBT brothers and sisters with "respect, sensitivity and compassion."

But God wants more. God wants us to love. And not a twisted, crabbed, narrow tolerance, which often comes in the guise of condemnations, instructions and admonitions that try to masquerade as love, but actual love.

Love means: getting to know LGBT men and women, spending time with them, listening to them, being challenged by them, hoping the best for them, and wanting them to be a part of your lives, every bit as much as straight friends are part of your lives.

Love first. Everything else later. In fact, everything else is meaningless without love.

I think he's spot on. I think all these "Christians" (yes I purposefully put that in quotes) that have a problem wit gay marriage have been twisted. They bible actually doesn't say much on homosexuality. But you know it also says, let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

We're the biggest to pass it and among the first 20 nations to have it. It was obviously complicated to get it, but I can't say we'll look all that late in the long haul.
 
Definitely a day that will be remembered in history.

Disappointing that it took so long for it to happen, but glad to see the United States join the many other countries who already had this set in stone.

One thing working graves is that you miss all the big news throughout the day since you're sleeping. Big news to wake up too, that's for sure.

I don't know.. reading a lot of responses, people are actually scared. I feel bad reading this, as its how, agenda'd they got from vitriolic news sources/political climates. I mean honestly, they seem to really think violence is going to occur against christians due to this, churches to be attacked, preachers, etc. Its what Ann and Rush have been spouting for years. This is the fucking END to them, and they are terrified as they don't know the reality of the situation.

Its making me not, lol, as much as, well.. These are our fellow citizens. Would be nice if we could all be on the same page. I understand why we aren't but, i feel bad that idiots actually think theres a gay riot coming, for payback.

I totally understand the reluctance in this country to move forward on violence against blacks. There is a lot of ignorance and fear at play here, and its almost to the point of being dangerous, which it was for those in the Charleston mass shooting. People are honestly terrified today, and thats nothing to really bask in. We need to get all of us together else its going to be more and more divisive bullshit issues in the future.

I honestly wonder if people will kill themselves over this. OR preemptively strike.

Just like you shouldnt hate all muslims for the actions of a few, you shouldnt hate all christians because there are bigots among them.
It goes both ways. It always does.

This is the Christianity I grew up with. I really wish it was more common.
 
Man my daughter is going to look back on this (shes 5) and wonder what the fuck was going on when we were banning people who love each other from getting married. I also love the shitstorm of retards out there commenting that they are opposed to this for whatever dipshitty rules the believe in. My twitter is full of retweets of politicians and others claiming religious BS against this.

its not very disappointing when we are the 18th country out of over a hundred. We are actually one of the first in the grand scheme of things.

Jesuits had always been the best order in the Catholic church. They really live by what Jesus meant. No wonder Francis is so far the first and only Jesuit being elected Pope.

Your gay friends never took you to gay bar or you've never seen a gay bar displaying rainbow flags before?

Here in Sydney or any parts of Australia for that matter, it's impossible not to see rainbow flag displayed outside some bar/establishment. It indicates that the place is an LGBT safe place.

I dont find it difficult to believe that some havent heard of the symbol before.
People come from all sorts of backgrounds and may not be aware of even popular ideas or movements. Not that farfetched.

It's especially notable that there's a lot of older couples in this picture. Couples where realistically one or both partners could have passed on before this ruling was completed. I feel for the people who lost the loves of their life that they would have officially married if the law hadn't gotten in the way, and I'm so happy for the people that can finally utilize this right.

You're right in that regard. Through the lens of history, it won't look so bad. Asia as a whole but 1st-world democratic Asian nations in particular are going to look even more backwards about it than Americans ever could, with few to no institutional impediments preventing it, to boot!

For them, instead of rigid definition of marriage, they have a war to fight regarding the rigid definition of family, instead.

That's why I'm asking and telling him what it is. But if you have gay friends, I find it hard to believe said gay friends never tell him about it.

I have gay friends and they dont talk about the symbol at all. I even have two gay Aunts. None of them mention the flag. I actually saw it one day in New Orleans and asked about it then. Only then was I told what it meant. But really, if someone didnt know what it was that isnt grounds to roll eyes at them. Educate them instead.

"State rights" shouldn't even be an issue. We're talking about people's happiness + hundreds of individual legal arrangements, tax benefits, etc bundled up into one package between two individuals. The most important question should be the rights of the individuals, not the rights of the state. Fundamentaly, a state's purpose for existing is for the overall benefit of its people. The goal behind regulating drugs (legal and illegal) is medicinal in nature, and drugs which are fundamentally addictive or destructive to a person's well being are outlawed (Of course, there are exceptions like alcohol, marijuana, and cigarettes/tobacco, but that's the general principle).

If people gain happiness through marriage, what interest, on behalf of its constituents, does a state have in limiting it to heterosexual couples? It's not reproduction, because the government couldn't care less if a heterosexual couple is incapable or unwilling to have children - they're free to do so with no repercussions.

I have no idea where Roberts is coming from on this. States only exist to further the interests of the people (by which I mean their happiness and well-being, not necessarily what the majority of people want to enact policy wise). State rights are bullshit and a non-factor

I will do whatever I want mate. I've lived lots of years having to put up with bigots. IME Most of them are not interested to learn. But I do try if I can but I can't help but being skeptical every time someone brings up "my gay friend" as a defense.
