It truly is and one of my favorite castlevaniasI have not played it, but I might do so. I just watched a few minutes of a Let's Play; it looks awesome.

Reading all of the recent interview articles sure was great! Now I just hope some of these indi metroidvania game can release soon to tide me over..
THE THIRST IS REAL!
Same here.
Ignoring the story, I wonder how Iga feels about it as a game. He did kind of borrow the whole battle arena idea for a few of his own titles (Curse of Darkness's Tower of Eternity, Portrait of Ruin's Nest of Evil, Order of Eclessia's Large Cavern, etc)
I'm guessing there's probably several out already that you never played.

I know I need to play Shovel Knight, but what else????????????
Igarashi commented about Circle of the Moon in EGM's preview for Harmony of Dissonance.
Axiom Verge (good), Shantae and the Pirate's Curse (good), and Ori and the Blind Forest (awesomesauce) have both come out this year; Xeodrifter (apparently short and alright), Guacamelee: Better Edition (the base game is amazing, anyway), Full Bore (more on the puzzly side), Batman Blackgate (bad), and Strider (apparently pretty solid) hit in 2014. Valdis Story: Abyssal City technically came out in 2013, but they only made the final finished release, with all the playable characters, a few weeks ago.
If you're willing to go further afield, Castle in the Darkness is an excellent exploration action-platformer that takes somewhat after Castlevania 2, and Super Win The Game is a Zelda 2 clone.
Shovel Knight isn't a Metroidvania at all, it's 100% a classic action-platformer. Outland is another fantastic example.
Interesting, though I wonder what he thinks this many years later. At the time he was of course trying to sell Harmony of Dissonance, which might've affected his statements a bit. Plus there's just a lot more to consider in retrospect. It's been nearly 15 years.
Thanks for the list! Guess I need to start with Axion Verge and Shantae! Don't have an XBO or running 360 for Ori (looks awesome though!).
I'll just throw this in there in case some people forgot about it:

Another kickstarter game that is in development. This one is actually toted as a Metroidvania since day 1, and I think that when it finally comes out it would be a good game to hold some people over until Bloodstained releases.
It's got procedurally generated maps too.

Destructoid/Game Fan are making a online/print magazine (digital version comes out later this week to everybody) with an exclusive Bloodstained interview/story. Cover art was cool so I thought I'd share what I found.

Send a message on Kickstarter, I guess?
Though today's update says they are very close to launching the Bloodstained site.
That settles it. If equipped weapons are for two hands, I'm havin' two whips.
In your defense, lot of us thought the KS was poorly managed at first.Didn't they announced last Friday we'd get a new update from them "early this week"? It's already Friday in Japan. Did I miss it?
Also, I've gotta come clean: I take back those few times I complained about Bloodstained's Kickstarter. It's wasn't perfect (none are) but after seeing Shenmue's and Red Ash's I realize just how incredibly well managed and thought out was Bloodstained's. Hats off to Iga & Co.
It wasn't just that. It was the physical copies, it was the console ports announced from the start, it was the additional ports announced in a timely manner, it was the clear-as-day stretch goals and publisher deal, it was the ingenius social achievements, it was the great use of every social media, it was the PR, it was the launch AND closing streams they made with a bunch of guests.Bloodstained's KS was janky but at least they showed they knew what they were doing by quickly picking up the pace to the point we've even seen a glimpse of an early prototype version of the game.

Bloodstained set the bar of what a gaming Kickstarter can be.
I've asked before but didn't get any replies. How do I up my pledge for Bloodstained?
Do I have to wait until they send out a survey or can I do it right now? If I can do it now, how do I do it?
Bloodrayne Betrayal recommendation
IGA said:Hello Army of the Night! IGA here.
Thank you for waiting so patiently for this first update. Thanks again for the massive support which led this Kickstarter to become a major success. You are a great group of backers. Now that the funding has come in, Im looking at how we can best distribute it.
Oh Dont worry! I always keep my promises, so youll get everything I committed to. But I look at the fact that this will be my biggest game, with over 1600 rooms, and I start thinking we may need MORE enemies to really fill them up.
Of course Im focused on the game scenario myself, and while I know weve gone over the three main characters, I'm beginning to think about adding three more to deepen the story. (Still only three playable, of course.)
