SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

i see.

anyway, part of the problem with shenmue's dub was matching the existing dialogue animation. that shouldn't be a problem now, i can't imagine they'd do it the same way this time around when animation rigging tools have gotten so much more advanced and easy to use.
Shenmue featured automatic lip-syncing.

3.7m still...my god this thing aint moving.

Yu should of put 5M goal from the get go. Wrong choice of putting it at 2M now that everyone thinks its gonna happen and what will is a base game with no real meat to chew.

there are another 17 days of funding. just chill out man. that's over half the campaign.

This Kickstarter has ground to a halt and it's pretty sad to see. They set the goal way too low - they should have set it at least $5m and the momentum would have carried them to that target in no time.

I think people are just waiting for new reward tiers and the physical ps4 edition at this point. And a lot could be waiting for 30 on the 3rd.

They should have been more upfront about it all (stretch goals, how budget differences will affect the game) and also had someone better to run the campaign.

Too late now though, there is plenty of time to get it going again but it doesn't exactly look great right now, shame.

Well it's Wednesday morning in Japan in about ~3 hours so let's see if Awesome Japan follow their previous pattern and post the megaton update in the morning. Hopefully it's something awesome and exciting and jolts the campaign. A physical PS4 edition is a must at this point so hoping that is what the update will be.

EDIT: Thinking about it now the update could be about Yu's talks with Sega regarding a Shenmue HD re-release. Sega aren't oblivious to the recent storm of attention Shenmue has received so I wouldn't be shocked if the update is about Sega potentially green lighting those games. One can dream at least.

The HD re-release was allegedly shelved because of concern over sales. Sega must know now that they'd sell and they'd sell hard now that Shenmue 3 has been announced.

There's no proof that a $5M goal would make the campaign any stronger. Don't assume it could have raised $5M in one day just like it raised $2M. That's a ton of money and is extremely difficult to raise.

Imagine how you would feel if the goal was $5M from the start, there was no difference in funding momentum, and now you might end up with no game at all. Not only would the Kickstarter fail, but it would kill off any hope of seeing another game in the series because then it would be known as "that game that couldn't even get Kickstarted."

Yeah...it seems that people think that a lot more people would fund this game for some reason. But the way I see it, is that the showing at the conference merely brought about Shenmue 3's kickstarter potential much earlier. Hence why we have a huge dip, because normally a lot of people would find out about it over time and the money and pledges would trickle in more slowly. What I think would happen is that a higher goal would not really bring about that much more money in the long run.

Really hope they can get to the $5m for the fans and give everybody the game they've been waiting for.

Whelp, finally got to 3.775 mil. I hope they have some good stuff planned for this week so that we can get to 4 mil much quicker. Can't wait to see what Cedric was teasing.

Same here man. If my theory is correct and they post the update in the morning Japan time we should find out in about ~2 hours or so.

All Kickstarters fade like this in the middle then pick up steam again near the end.

I agree with an earlier comment that the main goal should have been $5 million, not $2 million.

We need the $7.5m to get the game I've been waiting for. I've accepted that $5m or $6m is probably the best were going to do though.

I think now that the Kickstarter has been so rapidly funded and is such a resounding success Yu Suzuki is really not going to find it hard to secure additional funding post-Kickstarter. He's in a much, much stronger position now that the campaign has been so successful. He had multiple funding sources secured prior to the Kickstarter and though we know those funding sources aren't significant the success of this Kickstarter changes the game completely. Before the Kickstarter hit Yu had no evidence he could provide that Shenmue was a killer, popular and in-demand franchise. Now he does. When all is said and done we could still end up with a Shenmue 3 to which the total budget is 15 million.

Now that the Kickstarter is a massive success investors should theoretically be lining up around the fucking block. Overly optimistic perhaps but if he was able to secure funding before this imagine what it'll be like for him now that Shenmue 3 has set the world on fire. Securing additional funding should now be within his reach.

Mmm.. I think with a 5 million goal, there would be industry unrest until it hit it. It would be closing in on 5 now, if not sooner if that was originally set. Sympathy that something won't exist goes a long way to springing people into action. But whatever.

I just want to get the character perspective system at 5m. I think that's a must, with advanced Free battle at 6 icing if it could reach it. But as it is right now and the wave of action it's had early. I don't feel like it has a flurry of 2m in it, that kind of activity we saw the first few days is what it would take.

I do hope $30 on the 3rd works. If that could push it over 4m, I think the kickstarter will be in good shape, and 5m once you've cleared 4 will look attractive to people. i think it could make steady push to the deadline with people looking at that as a good goal.

Yeah, I have a feeling that he might be able to secure more funding from other sources after the fact that the kickstarter reached its funding goal so quickly.

So instead of re-treading the same discussions let's imagine what a Shenmue HD remake could look like?

WTF? Are those suppose to prove something? They look horrible. And I am a die hard Shenmue fan, even imported Shenmue on Dreamcast and I don't know a lick of Japanese (written or verbal).

for a game that came out only a year after metal gear solid and ocarina of time, it looks pretty damn good to me

Lol. That is what the original looked like. As far as I'm concerned, for a game that came out in 2000, looks pretty damned good.

I will admit I am readily biased but having recently completed the Order 1886, I still thought the game looked quite pretty at times during Shenmue Dojo's stream last night during Christmas on NULLDC.

I actually think a lot of the models, texture work and aesthetics still look appealing almost 16 years on.

What looks horrible about any of them? These are effectively direct feed screen shots with higher resolution, filtering and so on. I would not be opposed to spending 60 bucks on HD pets that look that good!

Yes, especially the main characters. They were absolute top class back then. It's like they spent so much time finding the best balance of how to make the character designs stand out with the limited tech that they had.

The faces especially have a lot of character to them.

Her design still really stands out to me even now. Her beauty and grace comes out in an old game where even new games struggle with more detail, in my opinion.
