I've honestly been waiting this entire time for a PS4 physical version to be put up. I couldn't wait anymore so today I went ahead and pledged $29. I'm willing to up my pledge and pay $60-$100 or even more for a PS4 physical version. I'm just someone who has always wanted the physical version of a game over the digital, even if it means paying a premium.

I would be willing to bet there are more people besides myself who were or are still holding out to see if a PS4 physical version is added.
 
Ooof, that stretch goals list is depressing. Capped at $11 Mil with room for expansion? That's nearly twice what the highest-funded videogame Kickstarter was able to make, and they had a great campaign.

I assume he is just streaming it? Or do we all lose our minds now for potential news?

You are crazy.

This is a game from 1999/2000 and still has character models with perfectly fine recognizable faces that would be acceptable in mid-tier productions today. This looks absolutely phenomenal.

People shitting on Shenmue's visual are not only ignoring the 15 year gap but also that at its time it not only was the best looking game but also could easily have passed as high-end PS2 game.

streaming, they're in the middle of a part by part shenmue 2 stream they started months ago. i'd recommend checking it out, it's pretty funny and they're not at all disparaging about the game.

there's something cool coming according to cedric biscay.

it's best we keep our expectations in check, but he made a point of posting about it on twitter as a tease. he doesn't know when it's going up though, but i'm anticipating it'll appear this week.

It's really the faces that I'm impressed with the most after all these years. They did a really good job on them, especially Ryo, Lan Di, Xiuying.... they are very memorable. I think that is one reason why people are not happy with the new designs. They need to look exactly like the old ones, even if there is a drop in quality, most of us wouldn't care. Those old designs are very memorable.

EDIT: Nice to see that we might be able to get that update today, or at least by tomorrow.
 
I think I will jump in for the 30 digital. Seems a fair price and I have never backed kickstarted before but this is a game I want to see made. I know it's coming whether I back it or not but might as well chip in to making it as good as game as we can get be I know I'm buying it either way.
 
You know who doesn't get enough praise as a character in Shenmue? Wong. Think about the endless parade of badly written child characters there are in games, movies, tv shows, etc. and Shenmue II coming out after the hype and bust of The Phantom Menance where one of the most iconic movie villains of all time was reduced to an insufferable child and Wong is a refreshingly well written young character who effortlessly fits in with the adult cast.

He's completely a product of his enviroment and is convincingly street smart and capable, but retains enough childlike qualities to make his opening up to and helping Ryo utterly believable.

Shenmue 3's co-producer hyped and teased an "interesting" announcement that is set to arrive at some point today. He retweeted several tweets that asked him if the update would be related to new reward tiers. We're all hoping the announcement is the physical PS4 edition reward tier (amongst others hopefully) though that's unconfirmed at this point. The announcement should be happening during normal work hours in Japan so over the next few hours since it's morning over there now.

And this is the first time they've ever hyped up an announcement beforehand so it should theoretically be something pretty big.

"regularly" - campaigns been going for a week lol.
The biggest updates so far were communicated through the Twitch stream, which was advertised. Since then people have been tweeting Cedric - who seems like the closest person to the game who responds directly to fans on twitter.

He just sent out a tweet. I am expecting significant news, but would call it PR 'hype' as of yet.

Agreed. In the cinematic partying ways with Ryo's fist shaking outside the Hazuki residence as he's about to embark on his trip to Hong Kong still feels powerful. In part due to the excellent character design.

I never really thought much about Wong's character but you make a salient point. One of my favourite cut-scenes in the second game does involve Wong, staying on his boat after trying to speak with Ren for the first time.

shenmue II has a great cast of side-characters. i can't think of any major one that isn't great in their own way.

we were over that, but we had a slide back.

the important thing to remember is that the backer number is still going up. the reason for the back and forth is due to troll pledges and people adjusting their existing pledge. it's important to remember a lot of bills are going out around this time.

towards the end of the campaign though, i think we're going to see a lot of people stepping up their pledges.
 
neat, gamersyde and gametrailers both streaming shenmue II today. that should bode well for tomorrow if it coincides with an announcement from the KS team.

Shenmue II is a good choice to stream, it has a lot of action, and the martial-arts philosophical elements are really cool too.
 
I get my Xbox tomorrow, going to roll through Shenmue 2 this weekend. Beautiful.

The schoolgirls are the best part of Shenmue. They freak out every time.
