Is he really outrunning a jeep? lol.

Yes, because the driver of the jeep can clearly maintain top speed while hitting walls and doesn't care one little bit that bullets are piercing the wind shield with his vision impaired by thick smoke and flames ...

Blim Blim and co. - you got in touch with ND? <3

If media sites bother game dev studios too much their publishers may decide to cut those media sites from marketing access. So lets wait and see what will happen without too much pushing.

Absolutely love the trailer and it is the reason I will pick up a ps4 when it comes out, however I really hope they do something about the water effects in the driving sections. They are pretty jarring when everything else looks so outstanding.

Hey, so I'm a little annoyed that Elena seems to once again play the concerned lover/partner/friend in this game. Can't they all just have fun?

Did you even play the games?

in Uncharted 1 she followed Drake because she wanted to get the story.

in Uncharted 2 she accidentally bumped into Drake while she was doing her own field work.

In Uncharted 3 she wasn't even his lover at the start, she was his ex-wife doing her own journalistic job in Yemen, & she was way more concerned with saving Sully.

Elena has more agency than 99% of the female characters out there.

Honestly, given how fun the footage so far looks, my only worry for this game is the tone of the narrative. Uncharted is at its absolute worst when it's trying to deal with darker, serious themes and I really, really do not need Uncharted 4 to be the "dark chapter" of the series or some such shit.

Nahhhh

UC2's best bit were all the stuff I feel were coming off of Bruce and Neil, which are decidedly on the more serious side. The humor and lighthearted stuff actually felt out of place, as the game kept getting wackier to the point where I was fighting a helicopter on a moving train and thinking at how this totally moves away tonally from the rest of UC2.

After TLOU, I think the creative directors earn the right to take the story in a more serious manner, and I hope they don't shit the bed with handling the humor either.

And if I fight a helicopter boss, I am going to be severely disappointed.

Yes, "again". I get that these characters represent various parts of Nate's being, but it just irks me that Elena's role has become the concern role.

Spoilers for those who haven't played I guess:

2: concerned that Nate was involved with Lazaravic.
3: their marriage was affected and she was concerned for Sully.

I get it, it's too early to tell, "wait for more than 5 seconds", but I don't expect a much of a tonal shift with a cherry "...welt, what are we waiting for, kiddo?" Elena after watching that.

And you totally read that in UC1 Elena's voice.

Was still awesome for it's time though.

Sure, not saying it wasn't; it was probably the peak at its time as well, at least for console games if there was a better looking PC title.

Not only visually speaking, but look how that scene is looking: Nate just runs down a straight corridor and shoots the car behind him. In UC4, you have a way more complex chase scene that takes place in different locations, with different camera settings and all that; big jump in direction as well.

Looks pretty good. I don't think I would say "it completely changes the game for set-pieces in any game or movie" though.

Also, can't help but be bothered how Drake and his brother seem to laugh off the fact that they've killed a lot of people. Yes, it's a game, of course. But since the game is relatively realistic in its premise, setting, visuals and overall direction and Drake is like an every day adventurer guy, not a military guy, I'm still bothered by the fact that he murders a lot of people and doesn't seem to be affected by that.

At least in the opening segment of Uncharted 2 he uses a tranquilizer gun.

That's not her role in the games at all, you're simplifying it & using her subplots to describe her main role.

I actually can't think of a main female protagonist other than Ellie that displayed more Agency than Elena.

Understand the pushing to have bad overall effect, but....the thirst for uncompr. footage. Waiting steadily.

The creators have always described the side characters as being satellites around Nate that represent a different side of him. I agree, I love Elena the character... I just wish they'd drop that bit I'm referring to that is obviously and intentionally there. I liked when she was interested in the adventure like 1 and not caught in it based on circumstance.

Has there been an official reason given as to why the whole thing wasn't shown at Sony's conference? Yeah it's a long demo, but it's more Uncharted 4 - who doesn't want to see more Uncharted 4?! They really should have signed off with the full 15 minutes for sure, it would've made an already legendary show just that little bit extra special. You ask me, it was a boneheaded call to cut off halfway through.

Maybe the second half wasnt as stable and to risky to play live on stage.

They got better word of mouth this way. Press raved about 2nd part of the demo for several days, then ND announced they will show entire demo a week ago, and finally we got to see it yesterday.

ND got much more press coverage this way.

Looks absolutely incredible, but for much of it it seems like basically just a movie playing with the only game part being pushing one button or moving a cursor around the screen.

Might just be me, but that looks.. dare I say it.. almost mediocre compared to the chase-footage.

Don't get me wrong, it looks great, but it doesn't look out of this world.

PSX demo was just an ordinary level which still managed to showcase many upgraded gameplay elements, the thing that will [as in all previous uncharted games] be representative of the 90% of the final game.

On the other hand E3 demo was a set piece, which usually happen at every 2-3hr of normal gameplay [50% exploration+puzzles, 50% action, +3-5 memorable set piece moments].

that's just the way the character has developed though. Nate was clearly suposed to be out of the treasure game and elena moved to that stage in their relationship while he couldn't. she obviously had broke it off for those reasons in U3 but gave him another chance. i'd assume he's on very thin ice right now in terms of their relationship. as a result she can't really be anything but concerned. she wants a normal life. and nate isn't providing that. she is the concerned and dissapointed wife by this point. for her to have a jarring character reversal and be all game for adventure again would be weird.

You're probably right. The E3 demo was also chosen for its "WOW-effect". I was much more impressed with the graphics in that, than in the PSX demo.

Sully was concerned the entire time too. They both care about Drake, and Drake is constantly flinging himself over cliff sides as bullets are flying past him. Why on earth would they not be concerned about him?

not to mention it was the first early footage show. i'd assume things have developed visually and gameplay wise since then.

I understand where you're coming from but I'd disagree.

This was flawless marketing execution by Sony and ND.

Give us amazing footage of the first half of the demo at E3 presser.
Get press to froth at the mouth over the second half for a solid week and build up hype.
Blow up the internet with the insane full extended demo fans have been begging for.

It also shows how confident Sony and ND are in the game they have if you ask me.

You're probably right. The E3 demo was also chosen for its "WOW-effect". I was much more impressed with the graphics in that, than in the PSX demo.

The PSX build is also 8 months old now, so that level has probably been improved graphically since then.

You are doing more than that .
As the set piece goes on you have less control but for most of it your doing more than pushing one button or moving a cursor around the screen.

PSX build was also is very old by now ND games look better as time goes by .

Graphical quality is so impressive, ND have out done themselves and is looking to set the bar to a new level.

It makes me wonder with excitement how amazing the new God of War is going to look now, as Sony Santa Monica Studios are well known to push the graphics quite hard with GoW 3 and Ascension looking especially good back on PS3.

15 minutes would have been 1/6 of their whole press conference. It would be nuts to spend that much time on a single game.

Maybe. I could buy into that.

Nah, not worth it in my opinion. The amount of hype and acclaim generated from showing the whole demo live in front of millions (didn't more than 30 million people watch E3 live this year?) would've eclipsed the format they settled with. It didn't help that the press essentially spoiled what happened in the second half as well, whereas going in completely blind would've had that much more effect.
