What the hell is wrong with Sega? Why haven't there been a single word about Shenmue HD? There must be a good reason beside stupidity?

Lovely.

- Shenmue I/II is apparently one hell of a legal landmine that's really difficult to maneuver around, due to proprietary tech, licensing, and stuff.
- Secondly, just like how SEGA is effectively washing their hands of Shenmue III other than "allowing" Yu Suzuki to make it with his own money, who are we to say that they're not waiting for someone to come knocking their doors with Shenmue I/II instead of spending their own money for it?

Personally, I don't think we'll hear anything regarding Shenmue I/II until after this Kickstarter ends.

lol I just noticed they updated their KS video with a new one, including English "voice acting."

I honestly had forgotten how awful that was in Shenmue 1.

It's BC with some graphical faults like missing shadows and lighting effects and performance drops here and there. Pretty much loses all the advantage the Xbox port had.

Well, at least you don't have to cope with the drive seeking noise of the Dreamcast, which is a huge plus in my mind ;)
But yeah, the missing shadows are a bummer, I'm very tempted right now to get my old OG Xbox out of retirement and see if it still works...

Wow, congrats on hitting the 4.2m goal. I'm so happy to see it once again pushing upwards. After all the shit slinging this is definitely well deserved. I hope we can get it larger.

$5m should be possible now.

5 million is a sure thing. It really depends on how big the surge of pledges is in the last two days that will dictate where the total sum will end up. I think the 6 million mark will be passed as well. Beyond that, eh... I don't want to be too optimistic and get my hopes up.

I've always thought $5 million's a sure thing and $6 million plausible. I expect we'll end up somewhere inbetween. The final push will probably be a fight to beat Bloodstained.
It has been an incredible 24 hours.

1. 335,960 dollars in one day.
2. 1276 new backers in one day.
3. Twice as many Kickstarter comments as any previous day.
4. Love from Kavinsky.
5. Kickstarter page reworked to be much more readable.
6. Kotaku tried to go negative, but their own news editor called the writer out for it in the comments. Upbeat rebuttals dominated the comment section. The tide of public opinion has shifted.
7. Apologies from Awesome Japan and much better handling of everything today. Cedric Biscay heard us, and continues to engage with the community.
8. Great new tiers. Limited ones are selling out. Physical PS4 copy was a game-changer.
9. Unprecedented noise made on Twitter.
10. On the verge of overtaking Torment as the 2nd most funded Kickstarter game ever made.
11. Great Q&A with Yu.
12. Bunch of people on GAF talking about how they haven't played Shenmue but are going to be backing Shenmue III because of the fan passion they are witnessing. Have seriously seen a dozen or so such posts in the last few hours. Wonderful to see.

The campaign feels like it has experienced a real rebirth.

Looking forward to the rest of this beautiful journey over the next 13 days.
It was an alright day. Awesome Japan deserves some kudos.
I loved the ending of Shenmue 2 so much. It was such a change of pace, so different from previous parts of the game and from anything else I'd played. And it was goddamn purdy.
With 13 days remaining, I wonder what could give another massive boost at the end like the Bloodstained campaign...
There'll be some manner of boost regardless of anything. I just hope this mid-splurge didn't exhaust the final sprint too much. It's a weird kickstarter this one.

Shenmue HD Collection is the one thing we'd really want to see, I'd say. But it wouldn't actually be part of the kickstarter and it's extremely implausible for that to get worked out in in time for this kickstarter in the first place. That'd require some sort of miracle.

The Dreamcast modding scene has managed to solve this over the last few yours with SD Card loaders.

I'm guessing it's going to end up around 6 million. I would be fine with that.

A gold star for you all!

Wow went home to see this shoot up to 4.2 million. Another stretch goal achieved, we did it guys! Only 5.8 million more to go until that elusive 10 million! (Believe!)

I think for the day this can reach 100k, that's really good for mid-campaign.

The game is reportedly as big as Dobuita, which isn't very big by any open-world standards. Here's hoping the density far outclasses what we've seen this generation.

Dobuita was but one area within Shenmue 1. By referring to Dobuita I wonder is YS also including Yamanose and Sakuragaoka; a sort of 'Greater Dobuita' area?

Shenmue was never about spatial scope in my opinion; more about what you can do in specific locations at what time. Plus there are random events, enounters and a lot of other stuff that gave each location the feel of a real place.

the best news of last night is that FREE battles are in no matter what. would love to see us hit at least two of the stretch goals in the fighting system category

we need to keep spreading news about the game. physical version especially. cannot wait for that news to pick up in the gaming media.

Edit:

nibel is right. shenmue at its best was about density of detail rather than outright size. chobu is only one of three areas anyway, and apparently baisha is the main area anyway

Not to mention with the setting of Shenmue 3 being rural China with 3 village hubs, realistically, it's not going to be big, or even all that dense.

There's no need for Shenmue 3 to try to be some sort of huge open-world. The world around Shenmue had always served the characters and plot, and not the other way round.

Some media attention on Monday should bring in a couple more people and stave off the plateauing. In a way I guess it's a good thing the US went on holiday. Thanks Bill Pullman.

Dobuita is perfect size. Why would you want anything bigger than that? It's 3 or 4 main streets packed with lots of stores and memorable NPCs.

Yes, I don't want bigger environments. The rural Chinese setting is pretty good to get these small densely packed locations to explore.

yu was asked what the advanced free battle stretch goal meant, and he said it was to enhance the system to make it better than shenmue 2, which infers that it's in.

I saw that. I just took it to mean that with that stretch goal we'll get a free Battle that's better than ever before. I wouldn't assume that means a form of free battle is already in, not until they explicitly say it.
