Realistically, what dollar amount are you hoping this reaches?

I think $5mil is definitely possible after yesterday. Needs another big something to happen - along the lines of the PS4 physical disc announcement - but I think there is still a way to get more money from us.

People "hoping" for 5 mil dont have much experience with kickstarters. 5 mil is guaranteed minus a disaster. We are looking at 6-8 mil range.

You're thinking people will just start throwing money at it during its last day, 'as-is'...?
Or you think Yu has another trick up his sleeve....?

*smug I told you so*
Maybe we can do higher than that. Would be nice if we could keep it over 80k for the rest of the campaign before the push.

This is what people do on Kickstarters so yes.

No idea why they did that. Maybe if they explained their impact to the whole it would. Like say location 1 is the main location and so on.

Looking at the Baisha stretch goals, they seem more directly tied to the 'warring kingdoms' gameplay that Suzuki talked about. So I can see how the more gameplay related location takes priority.

I don't think it's a coincidence that after the Baisha stretch goals the next set all deal with the combat system, before the other location based stretch goals come into it.

drm free version and paypal could be big hitters.

sega saying they're making the HD collection would get the game back into the news.

maybe one or two new tiers, though i think most requests have been fulfilled

further gameplay details would be nice.

realistically though we just need to keep the campaign ticking over with excitement and information for new people.

640+ backers today already even after the near 1300 yesterday shows me people aren't done pledging just yet. this thread has nearly a million views which shows incredibly large exposure. we just need to get more people curious about shenmue.

the media picking up on the ps4 physical version should help. a few more stories about the kickstarter would be nice. hoping kotaku or someone picks up on the human interest stories, like the guy who was inspired to do schooling in guilin because of shenmue

I'm happy for the series to run and run.....
Same here! Call me greedy but I never wanted the series ta end on 3, even if somehow it was meant to it'd still feel hasty to me. I love the Shenmue games first of all for their gameplay! Aside from Bully there really aren't any other games I've come across which have given me a Shenmue-like feeling. So I want moremoremore Shenmue games cause its really the only place we'll get its kind of gameplay from!

Generally Kickstarters have a huge boost in the last 48 hours after the reminders that the campaign is ending are sent out.

I think this kickstarter will end as a true smashing success, a validation that the shenmue fans out there are loud and proud. I'm sorry Suzuki had to come out and say he wanted 10MM so the chorus of butthashes can hang on to that as some metric by which this will be a failure, but I'm so enthusiastic and happy to see how this is turning out. Thrilled really.

All that "but what is sony doing" stuff certainly wasn't fun but that crew seems to have lost interest anyway.

Music to my ears.

I still think beating Bloodstained for the no.1 position (despite not hitting 10m) is a smashing achievement. I'm fine with Suzuki giving us a main area (Hong Kong), adventure/fighting area (Kowloon) and a final epilogue area (Meeting with Shenhua) ala Shenmue II

feels really, really, really good to be validated like this.

i'm also really excited for a lot of people to finally try shenmue in some form. describing it just doesn't cut it, it's something you really need to try for yourself to understand, and what better way to try it than supporting the next game in the series in almost 15 years?

i finally backed just to make sure i won't forget. i only put in $60 for ps4 physical, but will probably up it to $150-300 by the end.

but just wondering, i live in europe but i was not asked to add something for the shipping costs. i haven't backed that many projects, but isn't it customary to have extra shipping costs for physical rewards?

You want to know the sad part ? I'm not even sure if you are ironic and making fun of people like me believing it will be such success :"(

In any case, this is so beautiful that its happening. :")
And I knew that the campaign, with a better handling would take another boost :").

i think it asks you to add $10 for shipping. if it doesn't, you can just go tack the extra ten on if you up your pledge.

Upped my pledge to $500 and also spent $60 an another account for a physical PS4 copy which I'll give to a friend.

I feel happy to actually spend this ammount of money on the game too, Shenmue I and especially II on DC will always be my favorite games, They haven't aged well at all but I still remember them from start to finish, I pspent that much time on them that I can literally play them in my head lol.

Realistically, I'm hoping for 7 and a half million, but that would really require a huge HUGE flood of pledges in the last days of the Kickstarter being active. It's not outside the realm of possibility though.

Awesome, it's amazing to see a number of people come back and revisit the series due to the announcement.

One thing that surprised me is that no one asked Yu Suzuki if we will finally meet the master who wrote the secret poetry scroll that was behind the sign in the Hazuki Dojo.

"Striking fear in all, nary a soul challenge thee"

actually someone did kinda ask.

yu's answer was kind of "thanks for reminding me, i might look to include that"

I thought the scroll would be a bigger plot point. Interesting that it isn't.
well it was an optional item anyway, so it can't play a huge part in the story. i do think it was a cool experiment in carrying over items from the first game and seeing a reward later on.

is anyone gonna donate 300 dollars im trying to decide to do it or not
there are a good couple higher tier pledgers in here. so you won't be alone if you do drop the $300

Yu wants to make another two games after this so hopefully 3 will sell extremely well and give Sega the kick in the arse it needs to properly fund 4 and 5. I don't mind pledging to help out, and I would encourage others to do so as well. But it really shouldn't have come to this.

Even if 3 won't sell gangbusters; they will have a) the tech ready, b) some core assets ready and c) the experience of creating a Shenmue game in a new age of videogames (think about how the South Park dudes said they will never do another game again but after they learned so much they decided to do another one).

I think a Shenmue 4 is safe at this point; I don't think it needs to sell SE numbers to be successful.

Out of curiosity, is paypal as a pledge option for people yet.?

I completely forgot about that scroll. cool.

As did I, and YS it seems. I would have thought that scroll had a bigger role to play in the overarching Shenmue storyline.

so let's start talking about the games again.

i fucking love walking around hong kong and looking at all the details. i love the shit out of shenmue II but i've never really just gone looking in all the nooks and crannies. i didn't even bother participating in any of the darts rivalries until a couple years ago.

really hope there are a few new darts rivals in shenmue 3. it doesn't matter about the money, it's all about the glory.

They can do another kickstart for Shenmue 4 ala Bring Fargo.

I'm waiting for a paypal option to back this.

Can someone tweet to Yu in the Q&A whether or not add-ons will be implemented?

Even to those who want the toys, digital copies, etc., it can raise a lot of money if sold as add-ons to your pledge.

Kotaku would rather employ a fucking bozo muckraker to criticize the placeholder physical version artwork than pick up any interesting news surrounding the campaign. The dudes response to the article clearly showed his intentions.

I think someone should as Pewdipie(?) to play Shenmue 1-2. That guy has like 40 million subscribers that are all gamers.

And how is that going to work? Dude gets easily 1000+ requests a day and I assume he rather does the ones that have some deals attached to them.
