What was the Bum/Spooky drama from a while back? I missed the whole thing somehow.

NLBC's Marvel attendance was dwindling while the HoC's was building. People with agendas got in Spooky ear and Bum's ear with conspiracy theories and turned them against each other. Usual FGC bs.

They talked about it and squashed it. Bum's rep took a hit since he's Bum, basically. He feels like the beef is the reason why his viewership dropped, when its really a combination of taking weeks off streaming and deciding to go all in on Sm4sh.

Well that and often his audio levels get all fucked up and unlistenable, and he'll just leave it that way for hours even though the chat is constantly trying to tell him to do something about it. I like watching Marvel but I'm not gonna kill my ears for it.

A restream of NLBC was getting more viewers than a live event of bum's one day which caused bum to accuse spooky of trying to hijack his audience. Also lead to bum accusing Spooky of sabotaging his laptop. The whole thing just reflected badly on bum.

Spooky said this in response to the crazy accusations

Oh man I forgot about this picture haha

Which were?

The average steam user looks at this game and is horrified and can't get it to work. Everything about the game works minus some occasional bugs, but the UI and locked up launcher that looks like a Japanese doujin game is a huge shock to a lot of steam users.

The netcode also relies on forwarded ports similar to other doujin games. To its credit it works amazingly well and is easier than most doujin games to get going, but again average steam user and all.

I see a lot of "this game is a horrible broken release" and "how can you have a release like this in 2015" and I'm just sitting here happily plunking away at it with my friends lol

Thats 100% on the Yata devs tbh. The presentation of the game is atrocious. Saw that coming from a mile away

It will probably be the main factor in the game not getting a lot of long term support.

I mean, they are bad. Like, really bad. Only game UI that was worse to look at was Playstation Allstars.

Edit: Though I have to admit, I really like the character select theme. Gets me so pumped.

Yea you can definitely see who the target audience was for this game.

It is and it isn't. The menus are fine, everything works fine, it's just ugly. I will say really ugly. Lots of indie games are like this, just not on steam, Steam brings in a new expectation I don't think the devs were ready for.

The online is a toss up. Like I said it works really well, but a lot of people don't know how to make it work well and it's not intuitive.

That's just about every game these days. PC fanbase is a LOT more demanding and less forgiving of flaws than the FGC is in general. Steam refunds have reinforced this attitude. Some would say it's a bad thing, I say it's mixed.

In a way it's good that high standards are kept- the genre in the US would be better if the FGC was more willing to roast companies when they half-ass it.

That said, I expect less from Yatagarasu than I do Lab Zero or more professional full-time studios. Yata is really an indie game and it shows. Still a pretty good game despite its limitations.

So wait, they haven't changed the interface or the general menu graphics? Ugh

It is improved. I really wish KOFUM's had the O and P buttons to adjust frame delay to deal with certain laggy players in that.

pretty much if you're interested in the gameplay (and it's damn good IMO) the UI and config should be a 100% non-issue

definitely something that might turn off someone who's not already into it or not convinced by others praising it

But those expectations are set by the overall quality of indie games on steam. There is plenty of garbage on greenlight, it just doesn't get exposure.

It just goes back to eastern devs were not ready to compete with western devs in the western market.

Apparently SNK has added various fighters to the Metal Slug mobile game:

Athena's team: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oqe02IaJAuk

Kyo's team: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJdHOGZoWgc
Iori's team: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsfZKgzS3JE

Can't believe they went to the trouble of making such well animated 2D sprites, they look awesome in the MS style.

The netcode is good, but that's only because I've portforwarded and set the delay appropriately depending on the ping. The problem is that most people wont know about these things or other options within the game unless explicitly told through other people. If someone did a blind purchase on this game there's a very high chance they will be disappointed because the game does such a bad job at presenting itself to a new unaccustomed user.

Perfect example besides the online are the two arcade options in the main menu, how is anyone supposed to not think that's a bug and is actually two distinct arcade modes?

My favorite thing about Metal Slug 6 was that they had Ralf and Clark in it.

I have heard pretty bad things about the mobile MS game though.

Lol yeah the two arcade modes are whacky. Should've made one "arcade story" or something.

Kinda wish somebody would've consulted them beforehand about updating the UI for a mass audience.

There are two arcade modes? Why?

that's sick

yeah. doesn't feel like it would have taken too much

The negativity was more around the Steam port iirc.

The mobile version is probably the most successful game SNK has made in forever, it's at over 23 million downloads.

Honestly, I think Razer should sponsor Bonchan. It would fit perfectly with the theatrical rivalry between himself and Tokido.

Cross posting from the Yata thread, but the netcode seems very inconsistent. Me and Alstein had an unplayable 73 ping match earlier, while most of my 150~ ping matches have been fine. I'm confident both of us were playing on wired connections with the ports forwarded etc. It baffles me when it just doesn't work at all some matches.

I know I had a long talk with some of the Nyu Media guys last Evo about this and flat out told them about how badly the UI and networking functionality would go over with the average Steam user. Their response was that they were aware but the development team was focused on the core gameplay experience and mechanics first. That's understandable, but I suspect they decided to emphasize the Nesica version and completely misread the American market, and here we are today.

Yes, the market is more demanding -- but that's partially because even smaller development teams can deliver on those expectations. They're not expecting AAAAAA production, but they do want you to bring the full force of the service (much of which is made to make developers lives easier) to bear, and Yatagarasu does none of that.

I wonder how common it is for those ports to be locked at the ISP level. Has anyone ever contacted their ISP to find out what ports are typically closed by the ISP?

Guess they don't care about that aspect, remember trying the game way, way back some years ago and it pretty much had the exact same UI as now.
