If 5M$ are not enough, Ys Net could divide Shenmue 3 in multi episodes, like Telltale Games.
So, if Shenmue 3's first chapter is a success, he'll find easily money to produce other chapters.

We'll 3 is already certain chapters. Of the whole saga he wants to make 4 and maybe 5 iirc to complete the story .

Yeah, but maybe Shenmue 3 should become Shenmue : season 3.
And Yu Suzuki launching :

- Shenmue : Season 3 Chapter 1
- Shenmue : Season 3 Chapter 2
- Shenmue : Season 3 Chapter 3

After finale chapter of season 3, he should launch Shenmue : Season 4 Chapter 1, etc.

Quite insane that 1,400 gets you more stuff than 1,500. No wonder AJ are hesitant to update their chart.

Too confusing given Shenmue III is the start of Chapter 6. Call them episodes instead if Yu goes down that route.

I know how the KS works financially for the developer. Ysnet gets the cash, period.

The rewards not so much. Does someone who picks a higher than the $60 reward for PS4/PC physical get all rewards down the chain or only the specific rewards specified that they selected?

I want PS4 physical. Looking at the $100 dollar reward, it says it includes only the $5 dollar and not the $60 PS4/PC physical reward but the $80 reward does. I mean I'll go to a higher tier and then buy the game on PS4 physical if I don't build a pc by then. lol

There's a chart on the previous page.

pledge descriptions also can't be changed once someone has taken it.

trust the chart. the chart knows all.

How would everyone feel if we hit just over $5m at the end of the Kickstarter and no more?

I would be quite content with that given the wait. Sure it might not be the magical $10m but for a game that's been in the wilderness for a decade and a half raising $5m would be pretty impressive IMO

no combat iterations is going to sting. the combat in shenmue has been one of the things that stood the test of time. i'd love to see an overhaul of it.

Yeah I can see that. I wouldn't be too upset if it was similar to how it was in Shenmue II though to be honest.

I've just got this niggling feeling that we're not going to get the final surge everyone is expecting because the first two days were crazy.

I hope I'm totally wrong of course.

we'll see. at the worst it won't be as nuts as we hope, but even then we'll drift past 5 million with ease.

Great work!
If I may make a suggestion: why not merge the the two $60 physical copy tiers into one? Would remove one line and one column at least. And perhaps use a (light) blue color instead of yellow for the "choice of item" lines, to separate them more clearly from the yellowish background.

Edit: quick test image here.

Not doing gangbusters, but still carrying millions 10s of millions by the way, in prep for the final stretch upswing. Good updates, besides the messiness of rewards.

I was just going by the tiers they have listed on the Kickstarter page. Since there are both PC & PS4 I just left it.

it's best not to deviate much from what the KS shows. the new chart should just streamline what's already on there and make it understandable.

I'd be fine with that. I'd still like them to keep the crowdfunding going/ look for more investors as there will be more oppurtunities to create interest in the game as development gets further along, and hopefully meet more of the stretch goals. Kickstarters not the end of this journey, it's really only the beginning.

We'll see what happens anyway, both in the next week and beyond.

Dude, none of those are even among the most crow-devouring posts he made on the subject. Feast your eyes on this beauty...

That came back to haunt him so bad.

Wait, Duckroll is a guy?

Anyway - did people really think this wouldnt make money?
I mean for all the crap that comes out on Kickstarter, to have a fully 3D open world game, directed by a legend of gaming, on next gen consoles..I mean, just on those merits alone, it looks to be amazing.

well he's hardly a duck

chinner is though

re: Shenmue 2 ending
We need to know what you thought!
I thought "holy shit!"

I thought I had a pretty good feel for Shenmue thanks to #1, even though I never really had the patience to get absorbed into the series. But the last act of #2... I've never seen a game do that before. Completely outside the box design decision, and the crazy thing is I think it completely works.

But my main thought was that it makes total sense why people get so emotional about Shenmue. Gaming needs another game like this. And it's not clear that anyone other than Yu Suzuki and the AM2 refugees can actually deliver it. If I think back to a month ago, and where the industry is then and now, it's not clear that we would or will ever see another videogame that ambitious.

Except now, there's another Shenmue. So maybe we will. :)

Yu shouldn't have made that $10 milly comment.

Why not ? All he said was at 10m$ you will have a full open world or something. And looking at the Stretch goals.

$8m gives us 2 expanded villages and $10 gives us all 3 expanded. So yea , at $10m is where we get the ENTIRE open world.

Without it at $2m we still get the 3 villages (but smaller) but with all the content related to the story.

Someone pointed out on facebook that it may be a good idea to tell your bank about upcoming transaction if it a significant amount.
Over $500 being withdrawn from abroad may cause it to get flagged.
Has this been a problem for other kick staters?

Definitely more personal than anything else but yes, that is known to happen so all backer's banks should be alerted to avoid payment blocking and fraud department hassle.

I thought it wouldn't make the money it has made and I'm a big Shenmue and Yu Suzuki fan. The reason being that I've felt the disappointment of many games I thought were amazing not being a success so many times by now, particularly a lot of Sega IPs. So I always assumed as usual I'm just part of an unsustainable niche that can't have what it wants anymore.

Its nice to be wrong for once of course.

My question I doubt he will answer is will we be able to follow people all around the villages... which I would guess anyway would be a yes since they did it in Shenmue 2. Gotta follow the ones in Chinese dresses you know... you know you did it too! don't judge

Edit: omg yu suzuki replied to me <3

This is why you can't stop believing in Yu.
