Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

I get that his personality isn't as bombastic as many other characters, but I personally don't feel that represents a lack of character. Just a more understated take, which I appreciate.

Though in Street Fighter x Tekken, they did really amp up his affinity for animals which led to some of the more amusing dialogues of that game, so perhaps they'll incorporate that in the future.

Well I don't think he nessesarily needs to have an over the top personality or anything. He's kind of understated and he doesn't remember his past, which doesn't really give him a lot of interesting things on that end.

I don't think he's a bad character, actually other than Viper and maybe Hakan (I don't think he'd fit that well) I'd rather have Abel in than any of the other SF4 originals, I'd just like him to be implemented in a way that makes me more interesting. Everything about his story in 4 I remember as being vague (I know Nash helped him and he was a part of the Seth cloning process but I don't recall too much detail). You mentioned they could focus more on his character quirk, and I don't think that's a bad idea. I think maybe they could give him some more background, maybe a rivalry with Urien relating to his past with the Seth project, maybe he becomes allies with Nash and/or Guile.

Basically if he returns I'd like to see him fleshed out more when it comes down to it. I think this can be done without changing his core.

SF4 felt like what were called the Dream Match versions of KoF, where they ignored the story stuff in favor of being able to jam all the characters into one game, whether they were alive or dead or whatever in the story. SF4 was a big return to form for Street Fighter, it was full of all the fan favorite characters in the style people remembered them in, the entire cast of SF2, characters from Alpha and Third Strike not looking any different even though those two series are pretty far apart in the time line. Story wasn't very important at all. And I think that's fine, people like the characters and people liked playing them all in SF4, especially since it'd been so long since we'd seen them all in a game together like that.

But you can't really do that again immediately, so it seems like SF5 is shifting back into caring about the story a little more, aging characters, moving stories forward etc. I think its fun to have both types of approaches. KoF used to do a trilogy of story-focused games, then a dream match, then another trilogy, then a dream match.

That's exaclty what happened. That's why characters like ibuki, Makoto, Sakura etc are exactly the same as they were in their first apparition in their respective games.

Capcom is aware of the issue with birthdates, that's why they removed them since SF4. Years of birth are no longer present on official character profiles :

Basically characters dont age unless Capcom specifically come with an older redesign.

By the way, SF3 takes place ~4 years after SF4 :

I agree 100% with these. So, bring on Gym teacher Sakura

Well, I definitely agree I want him to grow and have his backstory and such fleshed out, and I think with Charlie being back in the picture, and Bison already being confirmed (plus Capcom's statement that the storyline will be more central this time) that there's a great opportunity to show him off more. Basically I'm just saying that I think the character we got in SFIV is still appealing on what we've seen so far too. There's always room to grow, but that's true for every character.

I was watching some old matches in SF3 2I and kinda realized that the first stage they've demoed in SFV is actually Yun's daytime stage... soooo?.....Yun's in riiiiight?

-smiles-

So right now this is being seen as the most likely roster
This rumor list from a few weeks ago that the Siliconera claims are lining up very conveniently with:

-Ryu
-Chun-Li
-M.Bison
- Nash
- Cammy
- Birdie
- R.Mika
- Zangief
- Dhalsim
- Juri
- Karin
- Ken
- Urien
- Alex
- Laura (New character from Brazil)
- Rashid (New character from Africa)
- Zen (New character from India)
- New Boss

Only thing I dislike about this list is that...Blanka isn't in it! And I just want him in to see what his movelist would be.

Other characters I'd like to see are Sean and Haggar, Haggar mainly so we can finally get Haggar vs. Gief :p

I'm trying to research on Rashid/Rachid, or to be more precise on the word itself. It's an arabic name, so either the character is from African Arabian descent, or just a general arab character and the africa stage has no direct relation to him.

It's rather cool that Tekken have an arab character and now Capcom will have one too for their upcoming new game.
As an arab myself I'm quite ecstatic X3

It's ChunLi's stage :P
OR
Stages aren't connected to characters directly in SF5.

I REALLY hope they just avoid any silly boss characters. Such a bummer dealing with them , especially when Rival fights could serve that purpose best(with increased AI).

So, any suspicions for the EVO reveal? Will it be the person at the end of Ken's vid or is anyone expecting someone else?

Also, when's the EVO announcement likely to happen? I'm guessing after the SF4 finals on the Sunday, personally :o

Probably before SF4.

SF4 will likely end during the wee hours of Monday morning for east coast viewers, and wouldn't be an ideal time for a reveal.

I think it might be best plan for Capcom to show newcomers at Fighting events to get people more familiar with the characters. Other events like Comic Con and Game Con, it's more likely that they would shown veterans because casual bases might be more familiar with veterans to get people hyping up for Street Fighter V.

I just realized what I said might sound stupid in a sense but *shrugs*

I'm looking forward to see newcomer in action, if they are going to show him at there.

Was that when they did it last time? All I remember is being up at 4 or 5 in the morning for that Decapre reveal, but I'm in scotland rather than the east coast XD

No, it makes some sense.
I guess after teasing him it makes sense he'd be the next reveal, though perhaps this could be the start of a pattern and during his full reveal they put a teaser for the next person at the end XD

It'd be nice if they shed soooome light on the 4 rumoured siliconera vets though, even if not directly :P

Yah sounds about right, though I could see Karin or Urien being revealed too.

Here's how it went
1st/2nd SF5 trailer teased Nash
Nash Trailer teased the Bipson
Ken trailer teased a new character

There is no need for any character to be connected/related to the teased one, but I do hope we get one in the next character trailer.

Also kudos to Detective GAF for making out the teased character.

Here's hoping, though i'm selfishly hoping for Karin or Mika over Urien/Alex because the current reveals aren't doing much for me :P

Interesting... so Bison didn't reveal anything? I had a look at the trailers and didn't see anything for him so I assume not.

With EVO being a much bigger dealio for Streetfighter than SDCC maybe they'll afford us a full 2 character reveal AND a tease? :3

If think the teased character (Maori kun?) for EVO is a given, but I wonder if he will be the only one.

The next reveal we are aware of is for Brazil Game Show in October (Ono tease), and in all likelihood should be Laura.
But Brazil Game Show being three months after EVO, by October which other events could be an opportunity to reveal a character?

I'm not holding my breath for this, but it's due time for Capcom to finally come up with a good SF final boss. And no more perfect physique/perfect warrior shtick please.

And New York Comic Con is in Oct as well.

Instead of perfect warrior shticks, we are getting Juli and Juni again!

Eh, only Gill and Seth fit that bill for me. Bison and Sagat are both great.

Watch the tease be 2 shadows fighting against each other and then you hear

I got a genuine giggle out of 'Maori kun' XD
As heath mentioned there's plenty of 'premier' points during the capcom tour they could use and if bogard's to be believed there's 4 new characters in addition to returning vets so they could keep a fairly steady trickle really... I suspect they'll probably space out the newcomers more though hence the 3 month gap which will probably be more vet based :3

What's the most accurate rumoured roster list so far?

The initial KB one and the one posted below:
This will be deleted in 15 minutes.

SFV characters:

-R. Mika
-Zangief
-Sim
-Juri
-Karin
-Ken
-Urien
-Alex
-Laura
-Rashid
-Zen
-New Boss

The only thing on the KB one that hasn't already been proven are the 4 newcomers which are also on the quoted list. It mentioned the V trigger system by name before it was revealed, that they'd be pursuing the Killer Instinct model for updates and a few other things.

That list is awesome, minus Dhalsim and Zangief... Would rather Necro and Hugo.
It's got mika, karin and juri so I'm pretty happy, though I'm curious if any of the newcomers would be of interest to me :3

The only immediate concern I have with the list is who the mystery person at the end of ken's trailer would be of the 4 names; going with the whole potential new zealand connection and all.
In the list's favour, aside from agreeing with KB's 4 newcomers names, is siliconera's rumour of Mika, Karin, Alex nad Urien being in.
