I hope not. I don't want to see Zangief and Dhalism in another starting roster (they both were in SF4 vanilla's). Give us more people who didn't make the SF4 cut...

I wish we could get a confirmation if that leak is real or not..

The list has Mika, Juri, Urien, Karin and Alex so it already has most of the characters I wanted. Although, I would be okay with Necro taking Sim's place.
 
The supposed leaked roster is really good imo... but I would swap Zangief for Haggar. Really thought we would get him this time. Sim I wouldn't mind subbing out either, even though I enjoy playing as him.

Hell in SF4 I used Adon, Hawk, Dee Jay, Blanka and Sim - all of which I dont need in the game.
 
They need to do something about Ken's face. Looks sooooooo bad. I'm cool with him playing differently and even wearing different attire, but bloody hell his face just looks awful.

EDIT: I hope that teaser at the end isn't Akuma. Also looks awful.

Crossing out all the newcomers, confirmed characters, and the females. From this roster list only Alex,Sim,Urien, and Zangeif remain. Zangeif and Sim are classics and are far more interesting than Alex so they should have priority over him. So the only other person to kick off for Guile is either Urien or Alex, and it's only fair to kick Alex off for Guile since Alex is boring and ugly looking compared to Urien. Plus Urien is more fun to play as than Alex.

Keep in mind that the list I mentioned doesn't say anything except a list of names. It might not be all-inclusive so there could be a few characters beyond those listed. The vagueness also potentially means we can't 100% disprove it with a reveal that's not on it either, unfortunately, unless Capcom reveals the starting roster size somewhere along the way and it matches up with the total size of the list :/

I'm ok with Sakura not being in the starting roster: I've never been a fan and for those who are I'm sure they'll add her and a bunch of others later anyhoo :3

I'm just hoping the EVO reveals something more exciting to me than SDCC. Happy for Ken fans but the roster is getting super heavy on the boy side. Cammy and Chun-li need some company :P

Yeah, I liked how the early Alpha games had a different final boss depending on who you used. BlazBlue did this too to an extent as well iirc

Her Japanese VA is good and she's pretty well known too. I don't care much for her character though.

Well it's hard to blame Ono for that, her design predates his involvement in the series by quite a long time. I think if he ditched her or changed her design he'd face backlash.

Not Ono, but the design is definitely on SFV's art director/character designer, Cammy's leotard wasn't always this tight, not even her tighter Shadolow alt in SF4 exposed this much. They could have easily went with her classic costume without making it so... Cheeky!

Sfxt, sf4. He was also in charge of CFJ
 
Speaking about the "leaked" list, I've a hard time imagining Dhalsim in SF5.
Focus on offense, very high damage, 2 combos stun, a lot of counter type moves, to say the least the game doesnt seem very friendly with his playstyle.

I could imagine it working with some of the sniper type play styles, but it would probably be a high level character like Gen in this particular game.

They need to change him a bit, make him able to fight at mid range instead of being a full screen only character. Necro had a lot of Sim's normals but he's by no means a keep away character.

Solid list that would make sense! I really hope Capcom will keep to such a system of shared but dedicated stages for each character (ideally with slight variations per character) instead of the complete stage randomness of SFIV (apart from Seth).

Personally I would miss Sean, Oro, Ibuki and Makoto in this current rumored roster though

. I'd also be a bit surprised if Muay Thai, Boxing as well as Ninjutsu are not represented in the game in some way, assuming the new characters don't use these styles (which they still might).

Speaking of which: what kind of fighting styles are people speculating so far for the rumored newcomers? Maybe something like this:

Maori-kun: Rugby / Maori combat style semi-grappler / momentum based character who is bulky but quick on his feet?
Laura: mixture of Capoeira / rhythm-based fighting with some Blanka-esque jungle survival / beastly elements?
Zen: if the name refers to Buddhism, he could be a monk type character, perhaps even using some version of Shaolin Kungfu mixed with Yoga?
Rachid: maybe a combination of Kickboxing, Boxing and Muay Thai, perhaps with some North African elements thrown in?

I guess I never paid quite so much attention to it back there. I suppose if nothing else they could tone it down a bit without risking backlash.

I'm pretty happy with how the current generally accepted list is looking especially with Karin and Nash making it. I'd really like to see Adon, Eagle, Q, Guy and Haggard make it in, but I can wait for DLC.

As far as Blanka goes, with the way Ono teased him, if he isn't in the game Ono is a huge troll.

I doubt Guile will be in the initial roster, but I think he will eventually be in.
He has been looking for Nash for years, it would be a huge lost opportunity to not bring him back to confront Nash now he has finally reappeared.
And they completely changed Nash gameplay, he's no longer a Guile clone, they would not have bothered without a good reason, odds are they left the 'Guile' slot free on purpose.
 
I suspect at EVO we will see a trailer for the newest teased character and at the end we will see a teaser for Alex to please the crowd who doesn't care for a new character as much.

If Rachid is from Algeria his fighting style could be Savate. Could very well be the case since Rachid is the French spelling of the name (Rashid would be English).

I think we all know this to be true at this point, so probably no Blanka for me. His recent Blanka costumed tease was a bit too on the nose for it to really be about Blanka as well. Then again, I'm sure many here would rather see Blanka gone anyway, or at least the goofy Blanka from Alpha and IV (which I also like less than his classic more intimidating version from II).

I do agree with your wish for characters by the way, Q and Adon in particular.

Interesting analysis. I wouldn't mind a Savate using fighter at all, especially since it indeed seems to be a form of Kickboxing!
