Metal Gear Solid V final box art (A Hideo Kojima Game/Kojima Productions removed)

Why the hell Konami still thinks they can get away with this shit after past months shitstorms? It doesn't make sense even if they are leaving the game industry as is just generating PR disasters.

I will support the game because Kojima has worked so hard on it along with his team...I say to anyone doubtful about buying it don't be. Kojima and his team want us all to enjoy the hard work they have done for us the fans. We know who made it and Kojima knows as well they will be very grateful for it. Just remember that it will be the last bit of money the company will ever see from you after the fact.

Yep its clear Hideo wanted to make this one for the fans. He has said as much, Konami can go jump in the lake, but I will support Kojima's last MGS.

I said he's pretty narcissistic, not exactly the same thing as calling someone a straight narcissist.

Hmm, if you say so. I just get really defensive if anyone says something about my man.
haha

Anyways these custom covers are looking real nice, I gotta find a high quality printer somewhere.

I wonder how far royalties go for him with purchases. I'm in love with the series, but I honestly want to stop giving them money the second it stops going on Kojima's pocket. Does the team get compensated at all for dlc? I assume it would be true for story dlc but not microtransactions.

The stupidest thing would be to say 'fuck you konami' but still go ahead and give them money. Kojima and team still got paid, this way Konami don't.

I have a good feeling this will be the reality. Look at the amount of effort Konami has put into to distance themselves from Kojima, as if taking out a few lines of code is beyond their petty ways.
I have a feeling if, hypothetically, you were to ask Kojima personally about whether you should buy the game or not - he would tell you to buy it.

Every hands on impression of the latest build suggest the references a still there and still plentiful. Can we stop making suppositions just based on the box art?

Insulting. Konami's priorities are so misplaced. Properly honoring the work Kojima Productions has done for them over the years, including with this title? Reading their audience such that they'd realize scrubbing "Kojima Productions" from everything could only possibly have a negative impact on their image? None of this matters.

The one decent explanation I can think of is that this is a legal thing. Hard to believe that legal issues so forced their hand here, though, as to totally avoid tribute to the people who actually poured their souls into these games.

I agree he would still tell you to buy it but the only people profiting from this decision will be Konami. Like I said it's a double edged sword but the most important thing (imo) is to not support a company that engages in this sort of behaviour. Stroking Kojima's ego is neither here nor there.

If everyone thought this way, years of hard work and sacrifice would go completely to waste. It's not entirely to do with Kojima's ego. He's not only (seemingly?) innocent person who would be negatively impacted by enough people making the same decision as you.

Konami acting petty would not be a good justification for that.

Konami doesn care, at the end, either way. They truly doesn't care if people buy another game after this, they just want to get out as dickish as they can get away. So don't worry, they will not notice you support (or lack of it) as the sounds of pachinko machines are louder to them.

man i was hoping this news with Iwata would cause Konami to have a Grench moment
but no heart grew three sizes this day
if anything it shrunk

Well...

They are mostly leaving the console game industry
This, I guess?

it's not like the reaction of the MGS hardcore fanbase it's going to make a dent on their pachislot, gambling and mobile endeavors.

Needs the Kojima Productions logo too.

So if you spent millions of dollars releasing a product and didn't recoup any of those costs you wouldn't care? Lies! lol They will care if it flops, that much is guaranteed.

It only needs to happen this one time. It wouldn't be a waste, judging by past sales of Metal Gear Solid games with Kojima's name on it selling well vs a game that gets released without his name on it that flops.

Okay then let's consider the hypothetical that the game flops because people boycott it (This isn't going to happen, but let's just go with it), what exactly do you expect to come of that? What do you want to happen? People don't get to enjoy the game that Kojima and his team worked so hard to deliver to fans. Sure, Konami gets less profit but who wins in this scenario?

The problem to them is the continuous PR disaster this shit causes. A company that changes bussiness endeavors usuAlly are wise enough to be quiet about it. And they care enough to get profit about this game. (Of course, is not going to flop, lol, but is clear they want to milk it as much as possible before getting the shit out of the industry)

Not a surprise, I mean, I was one of the first to start wearing this banner since the beginning of the whole debacle. It is pretty shameful though, and really speaks to the spite the Konami management must have from a (perceived) undermining of their authority in the company by Kojima. Of course, he was the only good thing left at that company so, Konami...

BTW, there is a pretty darn good article made by The Snake Soup on the subect that was published on the 6th. Here it is: EDITORIAL: Hideo Kojima As Gaming’s Auteur Deserves To Be Credited As Such. The Snake Soup is pretty much one of the oldest and consequently longest Metal Gear fan sites, great old analysis articles and the like, though the forums are mostly toxic with some pretty unfriendly grumpy old Metal Gear fans. Still, Ravi Singh and a few others are pretty alright people, and it still has a wonderful history of Metal Gear fandom, speculation and analysis. It and Mr. Wolfe's "Meta Gear Solid" are both great places to find interesting MGS theories, the latter is where the infamous "VR theory" of MGS2 is from.

I don't really have access to a decent printer, so if Europe doesn't get the alternative artwork, again, I may have to commission someone to print and send me a Shinkawa cover!

It will be worth it.

This is ridiculous... Are they going to pretend that Kojima wasn't involved in the development of this game ? Are they going to remove his name from the credit as well ?
Seems really childish...

Why does there have to be a winner, isn't denying Konami boatloads of cash and losing money in the process enough? The choice is easy for me because I am over these games so I really don't have to do a thing to know that i'm not supporting the slimey bastards over at Konami and that's all that matters to me. There is no bigger stance you can take than not giving a company money, that is a fact. It is the whole purpose of their existence.

The future will be a very grim place if everyone just bows to these companies because they are too hungus to go without a video game or whatever other meaningless product they just have to have.

Konami are fucked, no two ways about it and there is no hope in hell I am going to support them, but you go right ahead. Konami will walk away from it knowing they can do whatever the fuck they want.

So you're not even interested in the game, right.

No point continuing this conversation.

Don't really care much for MGS anymore either way, so I already done with that company after Silent Hills got axed and Castlevania looks to be dead. But people shouldn't really boycott this. It still a game made by Kojima and his crew, so don't let all that work go to waste.

It be sad if his name and the studio are even removed from the game's credits through. What a crappy end to give to someone that gave some of the best contribution to the company. Least he now has new opportunities.

Wow must be some real bitterness going on. Even the E3 trailer a few weeks ago had the logo, like Kojima refuses to allow his teams work to be shitted on by Konami Corporate.

I wonder whether Konami will go as far to remove Kojima and the rest of the KojiPro team from the in-game credits? I doubt it'd actually happen, but if it did the uproar would be huge and I believe Konami would actually be doing something illegal.

I'm worried about the documentary in the collectors edition, with all this Kojima removal it's not going to be interesting to watch without Kojima in it.

Is anyone else concerned that no news outlets are running this?

Are they that afraid of "bad relations" to run a story?

As a video game news outlet, do you care about Konami PR relations anymore? Are they going to interfere with your PES reviews lol. Konami doesn't care about the console video game market anymore.

even without the whole labeling fuck up, this is easily the worst MGS box art,
why the hell would you not continue to use Shinkawa art, its so damn cool!

eh, i guess it wont actually matter to me since ill just be getting it on steam.

Everyone is screaming they hate Konami but everyone will add to konami's bank account when MGSV launches (sorry just seems ironic).

Does anyone have a link or a thread explaining what Konami did?

This is better than the US version of the MGS4 boxart in my opinion.

at least that one had the nuance of showing off that snakes an old man now,
this one is just completely plain, it doesn't even show the horn, the only actually interesting thing about his face.

but yeah, that is a close second that i had forgotten about.

Someone post the CODMW2 Steam boycott group image.

Miss out on the last Metal Gear Solid game worth a damn? You fucking crazy?

Rendering all the years of hard work and passion done by Kojima and his team as meaningless? No thanks.

Better to show them what a good thing they had with Kojima when it sells gangbusters and the next iteration tanks spectacularly.

No way. That doesn't really help Kojima and his team, honestly. Won't support Konami's future releases of Metal Gear, though, no matter how good it may be. (That's just me, though.)

Correct.

No, we boycott MGS6 when it's released in a few years without Kojima's input.

KojiPro worked hard on 5, no need to refuse to give their work the support it deserves. This will likely be the last time I give Konami money.

No we can fucking not because let's not forget it was Kojima who kept his team together in this hard times. He said he promised to make great quality game for fans. So you better buy this last farwell to his fans after that you can boycott Konami as much as you want but always remember that Kojima Productions finished MGSV: The Phantom Pain under horrible conditions just for you guys. If it wasn't for us Kojima would have left Konami already. Always remember that.

Alright! Alright!

So, what if we send Konami a strongly worded letter, telling them we won't go to their health spas anymore?
