Metal Gear Solid V final box art (A Hideo Kojima Game/Kojima Productions removed)

lmao what the heck. How many other games don't have one dude's name plastered all over the cover and no one gives a shit? What makes Kojima so special other than the creepy idolatry that surrounds him?

Your reaction is warranted if they somehow erased his names from the credits but there's no indication of that.

Seriously.

I genuinely wonder if the same people on GAF would pitch a fit if the next Civ game just says Civ instead of Sid Meier's Civ.

Somehow I doubt they would care. This cult worship is weird and creepy as hell.

It's less about if his name is there or not from the start. But more that it was there already, and they took it off.

DLC Items:
Adam-ska Special Handgun
Personal Ballistic Shield (Silver)
Cardboard Box (Wetland)
Fatigues (Blue Urban Snake Costume)
Metal Gear Online XP Boost

(GameStop lists the map, but I believe that is included in all versions of the game!)

Is Konami really going to allocate money and resourcers to maintain servers for a new Metal Gear Online mode?

So? How does this hurt Kojima?

Most likely, Konami didnt wanna plaster the boxart with the name of someone they wont have making the next MGS game. So they made the change. People here are acting like Konami destroyed Kojima's career by doing this.

Why are you guys so freaking out that he wont get an ego stroke. I am sure his name will be plastered all over the in game credits.

That's what you get in the Day 1 edition or that's what is cut? Anything related to MGO is moot since we aren't getting it at launch. :p

Is not only his name, is the name of the studio.

All that warrants is our curiosity, if anything. Outrage for the removal of a privilege that didn't have to be awarded to begin with is unnecessary.

Plus Konami owns Metal Gear Solid, the branding, engine and everything related to it.

If they believe it is better for the future of the franchise to cut out everything Kojima they can do that because they own everything related to it.

Going crazy over it is odd. It's a business and they will do whatever they do. Shrug, move on and see if the game is good. If yes, then yay. Same philosophy should be applied to the next Metal Gear instead of the inevitable storm of "you ruined Metal Gear".

Ah, the great corporation mindset.

Konami did ruin a lot of franchises in the long run.

Going PC digital so the box art means nothing to me, but I wonder if Kojima productions will be removed from the opening and closing credits.

Why are you so annoyed by people caring about this? How does any of this affect you?

Someone should make a printable version so I can put it in the case when I get the game.

Doesn't hurt Kojima much. But as you can see, fans see this as lack of respect and it hurts Konami's image.

Sid Meier is as much involved in Civ now as Tom Clancy is involved in Rainbow Six. And he's dead. A better analogy would be if if Tyler Perry's name was taken off the next Madea movie.

I'm not really up in arms about it, but it is vindictive as hell. Kojima is Metal Gear to anyone who knows what Metal Gear really is. And his name has always been in the marquee.

Anyone else afraid that this game might not deliver? That Kojima hasn't been able to create the game he wanted because of Konami? I hope I'm wrong.

No, MGSV is a 100% Kojima and Kojima Productions game.

The box art in general is so meh that I'm having difficulty getting upset about this. It's even more meh than the MGS4 box art, which was at critical meh levels.

I've never been able to get too emotional about the whole thing without knowing the details of the situation. Kojima is a big wheel with a big ego (anyone else remember the MGS3 era interview in Edge where he said he considered all post-MGS stealth games to be "his" games, because they wouldn't exist if not for MGS?) and I don't think it's a stretch to assume that perhaps he has some culpability in this mess.

That said, TPP is my most anticipated game in years and I wouldn't care if the box art was a render of Snake taking a dump on the American flag. Day 1. Day fucking ZERO.

Just glad to actually be able to believe that this is Kojima's final Metal Gear. I really don't care how Konami treats the IP and i doubt Kojima cares half as much as everyone here. His name will be on credits so who cares if its not on the box.

I don't care that much, but...

It's clear that it WAS on the box and was then removed. I can see a business justification for the change, but this close to release, that doesn't feel right as a full explanation. There's something inescapably vindictive about the omission. I think people sense that and are rightly a bit grossed out.

I mean, if I made a game, or a movie, or an album, or a painting that I was proud of, I'd like to have my name on it. How some of you can just wave your hand like it's no big deal is weird.

I was really hoping the collectors edition would retain the "A Hideo Kojima Game" tagline, but I guess it was just wishful thinking. Pretty petty thing to do.

Konami already said they're staffing up for a new Metal Gear game. They're going to get their money's worth of the massive investment it was to make Fox Engine. So expect a new Metal Gear in two years.

I know Konami will milk MGS franchise until its dry.

I'm on board with skipping them without Kojima directing or even providing some guidance.

Why does he need his name on all the games anyway? You don't see other great game makers shoving their name on all their games. Seems more like an ego thing tbh, at least he is free to make movies now which what he really wants.

Is Konami really going to allocate money and resourcers to maintain servers for a new Metal Gear Online mode?

No, since it's using non-Konami servers (EG: X-box Live, PSN provided servers, Steamworks matchmaking) to the best of my knowledge?

Oh boy, some of these replies, I too like posting in threads without regard for context.

Look, in the grand scheme of things, this isn't going to matter, Kojima's name is all over that game.

However to those that don't seem to get why this is a problem, if you've been paying more than 0 attention to what has been going on with Kojima productions.
This removal on the box art isn't a business move, it's a personal move, everything about this entire situation has been petty nonsense in regards to scrubbing all traces of Kojima from his very own series that he has been hands on with from the very beginning, this isn't like Tom Clancy or whoever elses names where the person has basically jack shit to do with the game anymore.

This is about a man being very close and passionate to his games and also the fans, working hard to establish a new and versatile engine, and basically being an all round positive face for Konami, but they rather say "You work on this until it's done and then you have to fuck off" and while him and his team work on finishing it, they're going around removing his name from his own game, the last and most likely best MGS game we will get.

So you know, there is a reason why people care about this and not other names, it's the principle of the matter.
Honestly everyone around Kojima probably feels more strongly about it than he himself does.
