I'm quite certain this is correct, and they do not need a Miiverse profile to appear here.If you go to your friends list on Wii U, you can bring up a list of people you've played online with recently. From there, you can at least block them from interacting with you. I don't recall if there's a report button, but I can't check right now, because I'm on my way to work.
I dislike this whole attitude that amounts to "man up you pussy". Why should someone playing online have to deal with harassment or trash talk or slurs or vulgarity in a fucking childrens game? Yeah, online interactions aren't rated blah blah. That still doesn't mean you should just roll over and take shit. That stuff needs to be punished in a way to prevent people from being shits. Yeah, they can just make another account but then, they have to make another account. It's busy work they will have to go through as a price for being a shit online.
Like, what about when you beat someone online in a game and then get a PSN or XBL message calling you a faggot cunt nigger? That should be allowed right and we should all just man up because that should be the standard because 4chan and bullshit right? I dunno about you guys but if someone harasses me I like to report them and maybe they will get banned.
And they "win" by keeping their accounts and keeping the ability to harass and spew shit, they lose by getting their accounts banned and having to make a new one (and on PS4/XB buying more Gold).
Eh...Those are normal behaviors for young people.
Am I missing something about young people+internet?
Even without the internet, it was still the norm during playground period.
Even if you are concerned for young children, well, it is up the parents to monitor these young kids online activities in the end.
Might as well report the rest if the internet.
You shouldn't play against other people if you cannot handle some trash talk. And if you cannot handle trash-talk/insults just mute/block them instantly.
Maybe with Nintendo it is a bit different because of the children. Are there any requirements for creating online accounts?
Are you new to online gaming OP?
People here saying this behavior is normal are disgusting and just as bad as the guy the op was describing. This shouldn't be a normal online behavior and everyone should do their part to make this stop. The hostile internet environment that is being perpetrated by kids and adolescents is the cancer of our hobby and we adults should try to do something about it. This isn't normal behavior and just because it's anonymous doesn't mean it's not alright.
.
It seems odd to get worked up enough to take pictures.
Maybe I'm just thicker skinned but I've never been so outraged by swear words in an online match that I felt the need to tweet the owners of the platform AND make a thread on Gaf about it.
Come on, it was 3 swear words that flashed up on his screen in tiny letters for a couple of seconds. I'm not saying I agree with it, but it's hardly doing anyone any harm unless they're really easily upset by swear words. You sound like Maud Flanders with this 'cancer of our hobby' nonsense, there are far bigger problems in gaming than some kid finding creative ways to swear at you. I'm not usually one to tell people to just ignore a problem, but this is something that could very easily be ignored and nothing bad would happen as a result.
These blame the victim responses are unreal.
I mean, it's why gamersgate has gone on for so long, gamers are just hostile to everybody.

He hardly has 'free reign' when he has to result to changing his name and using 8 or 9 characters at a time to vent his childish rage. Most games have a system in place to easily report users that are being offensive or annoying in some form. Granted, often this often doesn't actually do anything (looking at Valve for example), but I can understand the frustration of OP when you see a twat have free reign to be annoying without at least having an option to do something about it.
there's a reason why a lot of people avoid online games and the instance in the OP is an example. it's not that hard to understand, really. also it seems like it didn't do the OP any harm, he just seems to understand that this behavior could do someone out there harm and he wanted to do something about it. I really don't see what the issue is here. it's the OP's time and effort, not anyone else's.
Alternately: Even using the term "victim" here is over the top and asinine.
OMG the DRAMA. I can't haha.

Nintendo of Australia is so behind the times that they don't even use courier kangaroos — you have to wrestle a crocodile and hope it'll begrudgingly agree to bring your letter to Nintendo's secret base in the Outback. And most crocs are petty and won't oblige until K. Rool is a character in Smash Bros.Nintendo Australia

What harm would it do? Maybe I'm too relaxed but I wouldn't be worried if my daughter saw someone say FUKYOU for a few seconds when she was playing Smash Bros. I disagree that this specific incident was worth the time and effort invested into trying to get the kid banned or whatever, but that's the OP's problem. I really don't get why people avoid online play because they might get cursed at, that seems silly to me.
What about people avoiding online because they don't want to hear about themselves or their mothers getting raped. Online animosity is a real problem and people getting offended shouldn't be discouraged from taking action and reporting sociopaths. He hardly has 'free reign' when he has to result to changing his name and using 8 or 9 characters at a time to vent his childish rage.

I know right? They should just get thicker skin and man up.
I don't think you know what victim blaming means
The OP is getting insulted. Is he not?
Try that here and you'll get a nice ban.
Why do you think these services have the ability to reports players?

I play smash a lot and just meet them with a stay salty because you can't report people, but it doesn't mean it's normal behavior that should be tolerated.
forgive me for suggesting this if it's not the case but I think you're just being dense. it's pretty obvious why some would avoid online games, the communities can be extremely toxic.
I'm not being dense, I just find it really easy to avoid that stuff and to not let it get to me. Why should it bother me that some child across the globe is making fun of my mother, a woman they've never met?

I play online as "Cocklord." I just want everyone to know that while I am, in fact, the Lord of the Cocks, there is no ill intent and I am not trying to persecute anyone. It's a secular society, and your dick doesn't have to worship me, although it is advisable.
I don't know what "Cocklord" means, I just wanted to see if it works in-game, and it does!
I dunno, why should it bother you that it bothers someone else?
Different reactions to the same stimuli and a different tolerance threshold. Simple.
It doesn't bother me. Me posting in this thread doesn't equate to me being bothered by it.
You called such a reaction "silly" and that you "don't get" why someone should care, indicating that you spent a moment ruminating on the subject. It's perhaps not keeping you up at night, but the level of concern expressed by others does bother you to the lowest possible extent, otherwise you would pay it absolutely zero consideration.

So why are you so concerned that he's so concerned that the OP is concerned?
