It's 2 1/2 years old and still alive but I have a 3TB seagate... hmm.

My 3TB Seagate literally just broke yesterday. I spent all day yesterday seeing if I could fix it somehow but I found that there is a serious design flaw in those Seagate hard drive designs.

In our experience, 80% of the hard drives we deploy will function at least 4 years. As of March 31, 2015, just 10% of the Seagate 3TB drives deployed in 2012 are still in service.

You, and I until yesterday, were in that 10%. I would backup any important data in there. I'd also steer clear of any Seagate HDDs in general, they have a long history of terrible and unreliable products.
