PlayStation Mobile is shutting down, let's do a final recommendations thread GAF!

Did a final sweep and got:
Arctic adventures
Behind you
Fragment's note
Switch galaxy
Ten by eight

And then I ran out of PSN funds :D

The search function has never worked.
Is there a specific game you can't find? I can go on a hunt for you.

Nah it's cool. I searched everything until I found stuff I wanted. Final PSM total:

- Oh Deer! Alpha
- Musync
- Gunhouse
- Fragment's Note
- Console Saga
- Tokyo Jungle Mobile

Gonna be bittersweet not seeing the PSM tab in the PS Store anymore. :(

I bought a bunch since I got my Vita a week ago.

One I haven't seen mentioned yet here is Emil's task, its pretty fun. Like a little action rpg game where you shoot spells at monsters that are assigned to square, x, triangle and circle.

I think it might have just got an English translation because the only thing I can find on it on Google is about the japanese release. Oh, and apparently it works on pstv too but I haven't tried it myself.

It's like $1.70 if anyone is interested.

Funny thing is that several old PSM games improved their performance over time, like Sword of Rapier, Cytus and ABL. Most of them released with a terrible framerate and loading times and now they are much better.

I went a little overboard. Here's all my PSM games. Most from these past few days but I did pick up those five free games from way back when.

Mononoke Slash
Penguin Party
Floribund
Spirits of Elduum (A pretty good free puzzler with a 99 cent extra puzzle pack for purchase. A great artstyle.)
Switch Galaxy
Picbox
Gunhouse
Rebel
Pop Bugs
Oh, Deer!
MUSYNC
Quiet, Please!
Adventure Bar Labyrinth
Eufloria Adventures (a must get exclusive even though it's a bit much at 7.99)
16 Bit Trader
Slimes Ambition
Super Skull Smash GO!
Chiebura
King Bean
Emil's Task
A Healer Only Lives Twice
Super Tank Poker
Instant Dungeon
Console Saga
Tokyo Jungle Mobile
OUT OF MIND
Super Brain Eater 3
Nyoqix
Shuttle Quest 2000
Sea Run
Aqua Kitty
Fuel Tiracas
Super Crate Box
Cubixx
Rock Boshers DX
sixty second shooter Deluxe
Passing Time
rymdkapsel
M.B.Re
YU-NAMA:PUZZLE
Hermit Crab in Space
Cosmic Clean-Up
Life of Pixel
Radiant Flux
Haunt the House
Grid Survivor
Aqualibrium
Bike Rider DX
Gun Commando
Neck Strike
Ten By Eight
Lemmings
Bullion Blitz
ZooZooGo!
Behind You
Blue Beacon
Magic Planet Snack Deluxe
Galatic Junk

And basically every worthwhile VN with:
Fragment's Note
Mikogaku Kaede
Mikogaku Sanae
Mikogaku: Second Year

I wish I had purchased Cytus earlier. I was always meaning to. I guess I'll have to get it on Android.

I splurged a bit as well. I picked up a lot of the recommendations here. The only thing I'm still considering is Eufloria, but the price puts me off. Any glowing recommendations for it? Also Boot Hill Heroes.

I'll get back to you on Eufloria but I'm sure I'll like it since I like the original game. Boot Hill Heroes is on Steam and doesn't say Part One so it is either complete there or they gave up on making any others. I'm not sure.

Eufloria Adventures was the one I was checking out too. Not convinced...

Looks like a mediocre shooter. Like...a strategy shooter with simple 2d shooter levels...I dunno. Video didn't convince me but he was early on...he unlocked an assistant and it seemed to get stuck.

A post from 2 years ago says they are 95% sure there will be a non-psm version. But who knows.

I really like Eufloria but not sold on the quality of ea yet. Not seen anything late-game though.

Thanks for that. I'll pass on Boot Hill since it's on Steam and probably complete.

I like Eufloria Adventures but it is weird controlling one ship. I couldn't seem to get ships to follow me so I'm not sure what the purpose of colonies are unless they start attacking each other like the original game and you have to defend them. That would be cool. So far I attack colonies and pick up Transform points. I got an ability as well. The game has an Easy, Normal, and Permadeath modes. I swear I heard about an Eufloria RPG coming out as well.

EDIT: It looks like Eufloria RPG is being built on the Adventure engine and will effectively replace Adventures moving on. Plans to port Adventures are no more apparently. Eufloria Adventures will live and die on Playstation Mobile.

Oh yeah, it is also touch-only. Touch anywhere on the screen or use a virtual joystick... when we have a real one. Right. There.

Just to confirm what I recall initially hearing-- the store front will be removed today, but we have until sometime in August to download anything we've purchased, correct?

I've got quite a few PSM games that I deleted over time, and I'd like to grab a memory card specifically for them. I'd be a little disappointed knowing they were lost forever, but I suppose it's my fault for slacking.

Store goes down tonight. Downloads for previously purchased content goes away on September 11th.

You have until Sept. 10 to download anything and then use Content Manager to back them up and keep them safe. Also make sure you can run them and that your system is activated for PSM.

4 last minute purchases:

rebel, based on recommendations here
ten by eight -- more than i wanted to spend, but always had it wishlisted (and it was only 2 or 3 bucks)
penguin party - free...

and...

the comic book reader. i was always curious, it's only 99 cents, and i want readers on my vita (i'd kill for a book reader)

There is a "reader" on the Japan marketplace you could've installed via the app installer "exploit" last year before the firmware upgrade shut that exploit down.

Chromatic Aberration always looked interesting but I never bought it. Guess I was part of the problem :(

Life of Pixel will always be my favorite PSM game. RIP psmobile :(

With the exception of FriedConsole, who religiously reviews almost all PSM releases... we were ALL part of the problem.

Tokyo Jungle Mobile day 1 was my only major purchase ever... then I had all the free promotion ones, but it wasn't till they were shutting it down that i bought all the ones I was putting off buying.

I'd only glanced at the PSM store once when I first got my Vita and I feel kinda bad about that, so I set out to get $10's worth of games. Picked up Super Crate Box (since I'm a fan and it seems like it'd be great on the Vita) Adventure Bar Labyrinth, Passing Time, Gunhouse, Fragment's Note (though it was a little annoying to realize that I was buying something where the rest of the story would likely never come out in English), Magic Planet Snack Deluxe, and Oh Deer; thanks for the recommendations, everyone! As someone who loves Tokyo Jungle, I was really tempted to get the Mobile version too, but at that price it was too hard to justify given that I never fully beat the actual game. Similarly, Tuffy seemed neat but would have gone over the budget I gave myself for this, especially since I'm not sure I'll be spending too much time with any of these.

As a side note, I cannot believe that there are entire genres in this store that only have a couple games in them.

Fare thee well, PSM. You deserved better. Mostly.

You have no idea how much I wish I could rename icons x_x
(And yes, I know they're not quite alphabetical anyway)

I admit it was the same for me really. When it first appeared I picked up some cheap stuff to try out and Numblast. I still have no idea why I picked up Numblast (not that there's anything wrong with Numblast).
I got Tokyo Jungle Mobile as soon as it came out because it looked awesome (and I've played it on and off ever since), picked up some stuff during freebie promotions, got rymdkapsel and a couple of others, but that was kind of it. I picked up Fragments Note before the price drop but not at release.
Unfortunately most of the time I kind of forgot it was there and the fact the "organisation" of the store sucks never helped either.
I was also guilty of being a bit of a snob. For some reason I found it hard to pay completely reasonable prices for games I was interested in just because they were on the PSM store instead of the regular one, which was stupid. And even when I did look it felt like everything kind of got drowned out by B.P and his clone army of Solbrains so I never really realise quite how much stuff I would have been interested in was hidden underneath that until after the shutdown notice.

So, having said that, thank you to everyone who offered recommendations and helped me find those things I hadn't necessarily realised I'd be interested in :)

On the NA store it's under Adventure, about six titles down.
It's also about two thirds of the way down the new releases list.

I searched both under Adventure and the new releases list, to no avail. The new release list is filled with some HAMSTER corporation crap. I don't think I'll be able to purchase it.

It's not under any other tab either.

edit: Because they didn't have a Spanish description they couldn't publish it on Spain's PSM store. Great move, Sony.

You need one more game to fill out that last folder. i suggest getting Bullion blitz and the $1.29 full unlock.

How is that 'trader' game? I was curious about that.

Also, is shuttle quest worth unlocking? I'm pretty sure i played the free part ages ago... i just can't remember if i liked it.

I gave Shuttle Quest a go because the graphics made me nostalgic and having played a little it feels very much like it could be an old gameboy game, but I haven't played very much of it yet. I like the idea though. The unlock doesn't seem available from the get-go but I think in-app purchases should still be available past today, so I'm hoping to play through the first chapter in the morning and see how it goes.

I have no idea what I'm doing in the Trader game (well, I know what I should be doing, but I haven't yet worked out the best way to make a starting profit). The art style is nice but the game kind of feels like a set of menus. You click one place and buy stuff. You go to a map screen, click to the next place, it tells you how much it will cost to go there, and you do it. Sometimes it tells you there are tolls. When you get to the next place you can sell/buy more stuff. I imagine it might feel a bit more interactive once I'm a bit further into it and managing more resources but it hasn't really grabbed me yet. It feels a bit mean to say it when I haven't played much of it yet but I don't really think you're missing much.

I'll give Bullion Blitz a go :)

It's nice seeing so many purchases, give these games a good home in your Vita guys!

Only a few hours to go, I think i'll take a final sweep through the store

With the exception of FriedConsole, who religiously reviews almost all PSM releases... we were ALL part of the problem.

part of the problem that was the poor game offering and the lack of promotional push for the games that did deserve attention? i don't think so.

also don't think it would have changed much if a couple more people had picked up those handful of worthwhile titles while they were new instead of getting them in the period since the shutdown was announced

I'm in the US, and I'm still able to access PS Mobile games on the store. I just purchased Sixty Second Shooter Deluxe a few minutes ago.

So when I try to run a PSM title on my Vita, I get the following message:

A new version of the PSM runtime package is available. The update will start.

I hit OK, and it begins to prepare a download, but then nothing happens. No sign of the download in my recent history. I tried restarting the Vita and it didn't help.

Any ideas?

EDIT: I got it working by deleting the runtime and re-downloading it.

BTW Playstation Mobile games are still up for sale in the NA store as of 9:30PM PST.

I've played 30 minutes or so of Galatea (same guy who did Behind You and Healer Only Lives Twice). It seems like a solid underwater Metroidvania... I get this weird mix of Megaman Legends with Ecco or something, hard to put my finger on it.

It's in the Adventure section in the NA store.

eh how much is it?

Still working today. Due to the Vita memory prices some games aren't going to make the cut on my 4GB card for these games. Keeping the best only. I will eventually break my Vita anyway.

So are Yu-Nama Puzzle and No Heroes Allowed: No Puzzles Either the same game or? I love the series, am less a fan of the puzzle stuff, but if it's got jokes/etc not in the F2P game I want it.

MUSYNC - on the more pricey side but it's a music rhythm game with tonnes of actually good music and you actually use buttons! Get all the music free (dev tweeted this) by setting your time to past the date they're going to go free anyway (sometime in september) click a song then click cancel when it goes to buy. Don't need to do it again but you do need it to do it once for each one and there are quite a few, which is good. No issues changing your time back/setting it auto and playing the songs you unlocked for free.

I'm glad I went back and read this before plunking down $14.19. The devs are awesome, though.
