Fighting Games Weekly | July 20-26 | No Gods or Kings, Only Tears

Had SFV pre-ordered months ago and Amazon didn't send the beta code. Now I placed a new pre-order through Amazon and got the beta code like an hour later. Just a tip for those that are still waiting on their code.

When does the beta go online? It's showing offline right now.

If I actually practiced Ultimax I feel like I could've made it out of pools in Loser's. My first match was rough but my second one was pretty easy and my third was 1-1 with 1 round each down to the wire.

Just looking forward to trying out Rising Thunder and I'll probably make that my main game depending on how fleshed out the features are at first (which, presumably, won't be very since it's a technical alpha)

At least Pepeday had fun

good for him. Sure it was a great experience.

Never knew Pepeday played Marvel. Those 3 female assists!

Ok I'm going to move foward now. Promise I don't wanna stablish conversation around de NEO gofundme drama but if someone else does... kappa

I had a discusion during EVO. Someone was telling me that EVO needs to get rid off losers bracket. His point was "EVO ain't being watched by hardly a soul. Now it's e-sport level and needs to make easy for newcomers the tracking of the brackets."
He also said that he thinks losers brackets aren't fair in grand finals terms. "falling to losers at that time it's clearly a bigger mental disadvantage that falling in half through the bracket".
He says that "this it's a competition and losers it's just an instrument that allows people to not accept their Ls". And then he told compared with tennis "Could you imagine tennis with losers brackets to give a second chance?"

I made my statement but I want to know what's your opinion.

Our boy was at this the minute he landed in Vegas lol. The entire weekend is just pics of him with random women... best part is, his wedding ring is shinning bright in most of them haha.

Lol, that guy was going 'oh, no, Pepeday gonna steal my waifu (his girlfriend).

The purpose of losers bracket is to combat randomness.

A tennis match is much longer than a single FG set. In a tennis match you have many, MANY opportunities to combat flukes and randomness. Loser's bracket is less necessary. Also, physical fatigue is a serious concern at high levels of tennis. People would get injured if they had to play a loser's bracket...especially in the men's side, were it's 3 out of 5 sets, with no tie-breakers in the final set. People would collapse.

I wonder if there would have been as much salt for Snake Eyez if he won...oh no there wouldnt because USA! USA! USA!

Hearing boos from the crowd on nearly half of the main stage games was really disheartening.

I understand the USA chants, but the booing was terrible.

So now that EVO is done, how about P4U2.0, ArcAtlusys? I would really love to play it well before any more new versions of BB/GG

1) Most competitive video games are short. You can't just play one game of street fighter, lose, and accept your lost. Especially when you play against a viper or fruity. A tennis game can take a long time to complete. Tennis has multiple sets to take in account player adaption. It's really not fair to make the comparison. We have had brutal formats like SBO where if you lose once you are basically done with. People accepted it was hard as shit. If Marvel was a one and done thing, who knows who would win each tournament.

what the fudge?

even the olympics have a psuedo-losers bracket for some game. I don't understand that persons argument

also, if they beat the winners bracket winner twice, don't you think that person deserves to win?

I'm starting to think the myth of the quiet and mild mannered Japanese is just a myth. Well except when it comes to USF4 players. 4 Japanese won main EVO games and I saw plenty of emotion from them and the Japanese players from those top 8. And then we have Momochi winning and he was like "eh". Yeah their was controversy surrounding his win, but come one, we've seen him win before. I wish we could see more motion out of the top sponsored players that actually come over her pretty often. But it's pretty much just Tokido and Mago that shows some emotion or pops off while the rest lay low.

The year Marvel was at SBO they demanded it be made 2/3 at the minimum. Justin Wong still won it though lol.

And yeah it's hard to compare video games to sports like that.

On average a single game of most sports last 2-3 hours. That's a whole top 8 for a fighter. To replicate that for fighters... you would need to have multiple long sets.

Something like 3 out of 5 Sets of FT15, all win by 2. Then maybe you can compare it to tennis.

Too bad you missed the E3 deal, you could get the game for $60 Canadian plus 30% off.

It was $60 for a few weeks. Also the E3 deal brought that down further ($42).

I even posted the deals in this thread too :(

I don't read every page if there's a ton of new posts by the next time I checked so I guess I must have skipped past it.

http://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00URE9SM0/

Should have ordered it when it was still $60.

You can still order it and cancel once you get the beta key obviously, so its not like the actual price matters.

This is what I'm doing now. :p

dude. it's been a myth. Japanese scene is extremely proud and vocal about the strength of their scene it's only the American scene who ignores it and keeps that "oh they're so quiet and humble" mentality from the 90's. Sure they are humble to a degree it's in their culture. But make no mistake about it, they love that their players are winning everything especially with all the money in the CPT.

Pepeday is ok. As long as he ain't emotionally connected to the ladies.
I'm biased don't pay any attention to the descendant of a bastard :P

I was playing GGXrd today and tried to play neutral like they did in the USF4 EVO matches I saw and it worked better than I expected.

Paying attention to spacing and maintaining it seemed to give me more control over the match. Where as before I usually rushdown the opponent non-stop unless they are hitting me.

I feel that's not possible due time. ft10 can take half an hour easy.

I also stated the duration match. But he said "Then get rid off losers, make sets FT5 and if you need to so it'll be fairy than actual system" what take us back to the time problem. "Also make qualifiers to reach EVO, make seeds and prevent randomness..." But I told him think last thing would kill what EVO it's about...

That shit was dead when you had people like Poongko looking like Stone Cold Steve Austin chuggin a red bull and taking off his shirt in 2011 or whatever.

Apparently everyone is Daigo. I mean all asians look the same right? So obviously they all act the time as well.

The thing about GG is though that because dash IAD and far hitting normals, you can still get touched from mid screen or full screen away depending on how unsafe your actions are. At least that's what it looks like to me, like Millia is probably not going to be walking you down, you press the wrong button and she is fast enough to be in your face.

Poongko isn't Japanese.

I didn't now that. He thinks losers brackets it's a mess to track for people following the tournament.
And thinks that if the player coming from winners at GF falls to losers it's not mentally the same that going to losers at other points in the bracket.

First off, Poongko is Korean. Secondly, I'm Asian myself lol(read my name again). It's just that most of the top USF4 players that come over to the US a lot are so stoic. It's not just Daigo. It's also Fuudo, Bonchan, Kazunoko, Momochi(as I just mentioned), Sako, and more.

I was just hoping to see Momochi look thrilled or something like that. But he was his usual self. I think he said that if he won EVO he would kiss Choco on stage. Obviously that didn't happen. That idea came from Zhi wanting them to kiss on camera during a interview, but they wouldn't do it.

There is that, With Ky I have to be careful with his stun edges since they both have a bit of recovery to them without YRC. I pretty much try to sit between long range and the tip of his 5S and keep them out until they do something really punishable. Characters who can cover ground very quickly like Millia will test the limit sof this It doesn't work every time of course but it's a new way to play for me since I never really attempted to do that consciously before.
