Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

Was this already pointed out?

Good eyes! Really interesting.
So this would mean there is an old Illuminati temple in the 'New Zealand' stage (lost in the mountain and covered in vegetation), since statues are the same from the Illuminati stage in SF3.

Another interesting point is the thing at the bottom of thoses statues (in new zealand stage and on Nash artwork), it looks like an open sarcophagus.

Now, warning, crazy theory incoming:
Necalli has an anachronistic look and seems to belong to an ancient civilization (Aztec, Mediterranean ? etc ).
He is also reminiscent of Gill by his athletic body and long hair.
We also know from SF3 that the Illuminatis have existed for thousand of years in the regions of the world often renowned for their powerful and influential civilizations.
What if Necalli was an ancient Illuminati emperor who slept for centuries in this sarcophagus and eventually awoke?

Good catch and interesting theory you two. I certainly wouldn't mind if this ends up being the direction they're going with! Necalli does seem to have a connection to both the Illuminati and Satsui no Hadou actually, if we go by his V-trigger powers at least, so perhaps the storyline will involve how Gill ends up being so powerful by learning a thing or two from Necali?

Also, to quote myself from the Necali reveal thread (before I saw that KidA Seven had pointed it out as well):
On a final sidenote: did anyone notice that the New Zealand stage also seems to have a cave entrance off to the right side, similar to the toilet on the left side of the London stage and the door leading to the restaurant in the Hong Kong stage? I wonder if all stages in the end will have transitions where you can hit someone in such a way that they end up in a second part. I'd like that very much!

Like I said here: I really hope most if not all stages will end up having some kind of transition to another section. That would be great. In this NZ example it could be a cave section complete with those statues.

The pre-fight into for Alex/Hugo was awesome.

I don't see any significant similarities between Alex and HHH though. Wasn't Hunter still a jobber when SF3 came out?

It was indeed awesome, as was Ryu and Ken's intro. You know, I was pretty disappointed when they revealed Ken and he didn't do a fist bump with Ryu! Hopefully they'll add that in later as well as special intro's for other characters. It would be a good way to include a bit more storytelling in the game in a way that doesn't detract from the fighting itself too much. The same goes for stage transitions possibly.

That would fit with what someone said earlier about Necali having a red illuminati gem shape under his hair. I can't find the post but you can see it clearly on his forehead, and it's obviously not his hair.

Also, just because the New Zealand stage has the Illuminati temple doesn't mean that Necalli is from there. He has an aztec name and Urien's 3S stage was an Aztec Ruins stage. Just more to think about.

Necalli could rule out a few characters for the initial roster

Alex
Necalli has a grab special move and potentially a grab Super. We also have Birdie who is also a semi grappler.

Akuma
Necalli has the demon vibe going similar to Akuma. Also we have 2 shotos in the game.

Urien
Necalli is mainly naked with a muscular body similar to Urien. Having Urien in the roster could affect visual diversity with the cast especially with a small 16 character roster.

C. Viper
Necalli has one of C. Vipers moves as a V Skill

Blanka
Necalli seems to be the freak character if the roster. Having Blanka in as well would affect visual diversity. Some people actually say he looks like Blanka in human form.

The overlap between Necalli and any of those characters is so insignificant that it probably doesn't have any bearing on their chances. I don't think Viper or Blanka are particularly likely to make the on-disc roster, but it's never a good idea to use character A's inclusion for ruling out character B. A lot of people didn't think Ken (Ken!) was going to return because of Ryu.

This reminds me of stuff like "Wario isn't coming back in Smash 4 because Mario have a Wario-themed alt color" in old Smash threads.

I mean, I don't think Viper, Blanka (and maybe Akuma) are in the starting roster either, but Necalli doesn't really rule out any of the characters you mentioned, imo :P

Don't worry muscular half naked men will be the new age of shotos in SF5, kappa.

I'm 100% behind this theory also, and the open sarcophagus catch really seals the deal on this being the the gist of things.

I reallllllllly hope we get that starry night illuminati stage.

Canonically, Oro and Cody are supposed to be some of the most powerful characters in SF lore. They fight with their arms restrained to make it fair.
Then he might not like Gouken and Gouki as well, since they inhibit themselves unless we unlock their Shin form battles.

I want Remy back.

I'd like a non muscular man in this roster, like seriously.
There is still hope, no guile-like character yet on roster.

Remy is gone. Just accept it.

Come on.

I could absolutely see Alex and Remy (instead of Guile) making it in, as well as Karin. I honestly don't think they would leave France out of the countries for launch, and I doubt Abel will make it in.

I really hope they bring more unpopular characters to the table rather than try and bring fan favorites. Would love to see Necro designed in this engine. It would be great. He's one of the better designs from Capcom and one that had a ton of personality.

Same here.

I feel like they could reuse some animations from Bryan in SFxTK for Necro.

I don't know about crazy theory, that seems pretty spot on haha. Only weird part is that an Aztec dude is in New Zealand.

I think it's a pretty safe bet that they'd add literally every other character from 3S before they add Remy.

Remy is one of the least popular SF3 characters, and I'm sure they would add Guile first because of story reasons (probably DLC not initial roster).

You can't really see a gem in any of the recent official screens or character art.

Also, I just took this screen.

That theory is looking less and less likely.

Yeah, this thought did cross my mind when first seeing Necalli. If Capcom is going for serious diversity in the initial line-up we might have to wait a bit on these two.

Where are people getting the "Cody is the most powerful" stuff from? Is that an inside joke that I wasn't around for?

You don't need a gem to be illuminati, he could be like the progenitor or something.

Based on what? Nothing we know about this character hints at illuminati.

Lol Remy is not making the initial roster

His abilities seem to be magical, he's based on an ancient power according to his bio (I think lol), he looks similarly visually, and he was revealed alongside an Illuminati stage with an open tomb.

Yeah cause I'm sure Birdie was a top request...
How about you go to street fighter wikia.
Birdie wasn't a top request, but Remy doesn't really have anything to add gameplay wise I don't think.

I honestly think that power that fuels the illuminati is the same power that necalli has.
There is no power that 'fuels the illuminati'. The gem thing on Urien's head is never explained other than him and Gill were rigorously trained and genetically enhanced or something to learn the secret arts of the Illuminati (Aegis Reflector for Urien, not sure about Gill). Since they have and research and experimentation facilities (Twelve's ending, Dr. Kure etc.) I don't know if they're using Aztec powers or whatever.

Nobody has a charge boom or flash kick yet on the roster, also no other SF character to date has had that jumping kick move he has. He was fun and easy to juggle with thanks to his cr fierce. Also no other characters have projectiles that you have to block low. And his V trigger could allow shorter charge times for his projectiles to kind of recreate the charge partitioning tricks that advanced players could do.

I'm not saying he's gonna be in it, because chances are he isn't, but to say he doesn't have anything to add isn't really correct. He's a lot more unique than people give him credit for. I'd certainly rather have him than shoto clones or 2 move boom spam Guile. And that's without considering the fact they will probably make most of the rest of the returning cast feel like new characters.
