A broad family-friendly blockbuster made in the most bland manner is, in fact, the sum of Chris Columbus' directorial career. He's not well equipped to handle the evil comedy handicap that involving Sandler in any creative manner puts on a project.
Granted, I was exeggerating a bit.
Guardians of the Galaxy, Winter Soldier, Iron Man are pretty good (haven't seen And-Man yet), but the rest of MCU is a mixed bag and yet constantly gets 50-page hype threads on GAF and what not.
And, no, I definitely won't watch Pixels in cinema and I'm not a fan of most American comedy movies at all, but I think Pixels still looks like a dumb popcorn movie that might be fun to watch on a saturday evening if you've got nothing better to do and don't want to do something that requires a lot cerebral activity.

I kinda feel we should ease off Adam Sandler. I mean, I know he has a bunch of money and he plays the part of "haha, we're just having fun with our friends in Hawaii" guy pretty well, but he's gotta be dead on the inside at this point. Piling on now just seems cruel, and might lead him to depression, if he's not there already, or worse.
My co-workers at an art house theater are clamoring for this shit.

As long as the movie-going public continues to fund these paid vacations for Sandler and he's buddies (and that basically what Sandler film production is these days), he'll keep churning out trash.

Nah, this is one of the most entertaining things about the industry. This guy essentially gets paid to just fuck around, and it's great.
I don't think anyone expects this movie to do bad at the box office. There are enough horrible fucking people out there that this will make Sandler plenty of money.
