I'm just really hoping they announce someone that appeals to me before the next beta (with the caveat that they'll also be in the beta, of course :P )
I've completely ignored this first beta due to not being interested in the 6 they'll have playable :/

Even if you're not interested at all, you could get the controls down :)

Lol. I was hoping this kinda ridiculous idea was exclusive to the Smash fandom, but seems like it isn't.

Look like you really have a lot of things to learn about fighting community. I remember those kind of arguments during Street Fighter 4 and Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. It's just ridiculous as Smash randoms.

Funny thing is that there are many similar things that have been happened in several hype threads.

1. My character is better than your character! aka "YOUR CHARACTER IS SHIT!"
2. Characters Slots remarks
3. Leak discussions
4. Clones! CLONES!
5. Wishlists
and several more that I couldn't think of right now.

Had a shot of it during the UK tour and it seemed fairly straight-forward in that respect. Only thing I need to learn is to remember the V trigger and when to use it, but that might depend on what the character's v-skill is so I don't know if I'd really get anything from muttering my way through a few play sessions with Cammy :P

Ha!

Unfortunately, it comes with the territory when it comes to fighting games.

Blanka will be in the game, but I'm starting I got to think he will be dlc. Guess I'll main Chun or Bison until he drops.

Cammy pouts in disapproval

Heck, even then, she's not actually in it until the weekend either :P

No, but there's just not enough room on that starting roster.

Also, if you already had Sim or Blanka, wouldn't you pick a different country for a newbie?

This isn't hard, folks.

So what you are saying is Apart from US/Japan/UK other countries are going to have multiple entries?

Thats just BS , both India and Brazil have multiple Fighting styles/Stereotypes to take inspiration from.
and secondly we know characters will be sharing stages , so why wouldn't India and Brazil stages be shared?

They literally can't. Everyone in SFV was remade from scratch.
The only obvious holdover from SF4 is the frame data on basic jumps and such - Ryu's jump timing is identical, which isn't an accident.

Sure. You're not going to put multiple characters from those places in the launch, though, because it doesn't help diversify the cast. Zen/Laura push out Sim/Blanka from the initial roster. (And Sim wouldn't be a good fit anyway.) It's not an accident that Ono's trying to make it look like Blanka's on deck for the Brazil game show.

We don't know this.

The idea of "character slots" implies that they are working with a pool of every SF character in existence, and the reason your favorite character isn't in is because they "wasted" their time on Birdie, which is not how it works.
Pretty much. Being disappointed with certain characters additions is understandable, it is just the idea of character slots that is really silly.
We do - Capcom confirmed it- stages aren't char-specific, same as SF4.
Did they phrase it that way? Couldn't the stages function like in 3rd Strike? Like, the Brazil stage was home to both Sean and Oro, the USA stage was home to both Alex and Ken, etc.

That said, it's entirely possible we'll have characters that don't 'have' a stage as well rather than 'sharing' one :3 E.g. it's possible to have an american character without an america stage.

Yooo two questions:

1. What time does the beta start exactly? Do we know? Like at 12:01 EST tonight will I be able to play?
2. What's the release schedule for characters again? Ken never shows up right?

The beta opens at 6pm PST (9pm EST) tomorrow.

Cammy and Birdie are showing up on the 25th. Ken and Necali aren't in.

1. Someone on the other thread said tomorrow at 6pm PST
2. Ken? Not for this first beta, no.

edit: Coyote beat me to it XD

The stages were part of the roster to me
I miss stages like this

As well As Ryu & Kens stage

Anyone know if Super Street Fighter HD remix is on ps now? I'm in the mood

No they said there won't be a stage for every character. Look at Bison's apparent Shadaloo stage, how is that not character specific? And tell me who the fuck is he gonna share it with?

I take it to be like 3s, most characters share a stage but some don't.

Possibly another shasoloo member? I can see Vega getting it if they don't add a Spain stage.

Also don't forget stages have transitions, the new Zealand stage seems to have Some illuminati thing in it.

Yeah not much, aside from working on KOFXIV.

Huh. I thought that got cancelled. That might've just made my day! Is there any word on a possible release date? The latest update I've found was that a 3D KoF was in development as of August 2014.

Siliconera wasn't right about the 16 characters, the DLC system, or the Brazil character. All of that was known way before from a separate source. There's really no reason to believe them at all, the current select screen gives less reason to believe because if we have 3 USF4 vets left, there's no room for Alex Urien Mika and Karin. Lots of misinformation in your post.

Also, for what it's worth, I'm not sure what you mean by "like usual" lol. Like SF4 you mean? Alpha had a lot of characters from all throughout the series, and 3 had barely any from SF2.

Yeah. I'm having trouble keeping these leaks straight. I thought Ken Bogard just had the character info, not the DLC info. Where was it said that we're getting 3 more USF4 vets, by the way? This thread moves fast, so I'll admit, I lose track of things. But last I checked, officially, all we knew was that we're getting 8 more characters, not who they were or whether or not they were returning from SFIV. Anything else just came from leaks (Well, "leaks," but there's usually a real one thrown in there when it comes to fighting games, right?).

I was counting the Vs. games, too. Maybe I'm biased because most of my memories with the Vs. games come from MvC2 and CvS2, but I thought that we usually got a good chunk of the SFII cast in each of the Vs. games up until TvC. I've also never actually played any of the Alpha games, so I wasn't counting them, in retrospect. Still, wasn't the entire SFII roster in the series by the console release of Alpha 3?

Well, the game likely takes place after SFIV, right? I can see Juri becoming Bison's second-in-command.

You know who would be a surprise addition Sodom. I always liked his design and style. It would be nice to see his return with his Jitte or Katana.

Sticking entirely to roster stuff, here's what came from where:
Ken Bogard: Roster size, 4 new characters (Rachid, Zen, Laura and name of 4th was unknown, most assume this last one is Necali), locations of Africa, India and Brazil mentioned.
Siliconera: Alex, Urien, Karin and R.Mika.
Capcom Roster Picture during presentation: Final confirmation of roster size of 16. 8 of the slots are in a green box of which 3 are still ?, the filled in ones are Ryu, Ken, Cammy, Dictator, Chun-li. 4 are in a blue box with the following: Charlie, ?, ?, Birdie. Last but not least is 4 ? entries in a purple box, it is assumed these are 'newcomers' and Necali will be in this section.

I wish the characters had their own stages again. It really helps flesh out their personalities.

And I got soooooooo bored of SFIV's terrible stages after years of playing.

Surely 16 stages at start and a new stage alongside every DLC char isn't too much to ask?

For those who haven't seen the roster pic from Capcom's presentation in decent detail yet, I've posted a shot here. Note that this picture is not edited so those coloured boxes the slots are in were put there by Capcom. Nobody knows if they mean anything or what they exactly mean if they do serve a purpose outside of aesthetics but... well... it's hard not to read into it :3

I can’t help but interpret the color coding as “green = SFIV, purple = newcomer, and blue = not in SFIV.” That would give us eight returning characters from IV and eight new characters.

Interesting theory. Would rule out two of the four siliconera rumored characters, at launch at least.

I wonder if this is their way of trolling us...

Thanks; you're a Gem!

That sucks about the Roster Picture, though. I saw about the 3 colors of boxes, but I thought those were put in by fans trying to find a rhyme or reason to the way that image was organized. I didn't know that there were actually green/blue/purple boxes as part of the image; I was hoping we'd see more characters that missed out on IV on the main roster! Oh well. Maybe that isn't what the green boxes mean, but outside of the colors being a red herring, I don't know why else they'd organize the characters like that. Honestly, though, I'm fine without Mika and Karin, especially if it means that Dudley has a better chance to get back in!

Entirely possible :3
During the slide they also had a sequence saying they wanted to bring back less popular/lesser known characters and listed off a bunch of NPCs from the stage backgrounds, including the guy wringing a chicken's neck in chun li's stage XD

So I guess the launch roster will be...
  1. Ryu
  2. Chun-Li
  3. Nash
  4. M. Bison
  5. Cammy
  6. Birdie
  7. Ken
  8. Necalli
  9. Alex
  10. Urien
  11. Karin
  12. R. Mika
  13. Juri
  14. Rachid
  15. Zen
  16. Laura

We're getting 4 newcomers.
Sounds like a great starting roster to me, assuming the other three newcomers are quality characters.

Yeah, but didn't they say that the background NPC's would be OP from watching all the fighters for the past 7-25 years? As much as I'd love to see that guy from SFIV's India stage, it just wouldn't be fair to the other characters!

If green is returning from 4, blue is returning from something other than 4... I'd still peg Urien and Alex as the two blue slots, Juri has to have a lock on one of the green, so for the other 2 I'd guess... Maybe Hakan with oil as his V-skill stuff and Rose with reflect as s V-Skill?

Rose in particular would have a lot of overlap in V-Skill utility with Nash and Bison in that instance, but everyone except Nash has overlap in their V-triggers being a power-up mode...

A bit of a stretch, but...
  • Green: Mainline SF Characters (2, 3, & 4)
  • Blue: Alpha Characters
  • Purple: Newcomers
With that breakdown, the Urien/Alex/Mika/Karin/Juri list becomes possible again. Hm.

I'd love Neoxon's roster if that was the launch roster. 3 characters I'm happy to play is usually more than I can hope for XD

Thanks; you're a Gem!
You're welcome :3

Same. Wasn't until I saw the slide in the HD video of the representation I actually saw the boxes for the first time and was all "ohhhhhh... that's why people keep colouring them in" XD

Heh, yeah, but it does show that they were willing to mess about in the slides, so this colouring scheme could just be another poke at the fans to keep us guessing :P

edit:
Birdie is not an Alpha character,

Also i never noticed the color thing on the slide. My hype just deflated a bit.
They only list him as being from Alpha in his profile:
