Woah when did M. Bison start being referred to as "Dictator" lol? Seems kinda random all of a sudden unless this has always been his sub name, am I missing something or is this new?

I think it's always been that way, I believe it stems from the confusion between Japanese and American names. Vega = Claw, Bison = Dictator, Balrog = Boxer, because their names were switched for eastern and western markets, so referring to them as that was just easier for everyone to understand.

Since forever tbh, especially to those who frequent a lot of fighting game forums. Like the poster above said, used to avoid confusion of the 3 characters who got their names changed so it's easier to just say Boxer, Claw and Dictator. People here still get confused when Japanese media show Dictator's Japanese name, Vega, on screenshots or whatever and keep thinking Claw Vega is gonna be in the game.

Either I have a bad habit of posting about it when someone brings something a lot more controversial up (e.g. R.Mika convo) or I'm the only one genuinely wondering why they made a piece of art for only half the cast and in such a way that it doesn't hint at more and can't really be adapted to show more :s

The stone floor looks a bit like a circular dais which fits right into the expected architecture of the Illuminati / Necalli / maybe Urien / JoJo Pillar Men themes that are slowly emerging. It could possibly be the stage of the Final Destination, but as for your question... they could spin it around to show the other 8. They could be standing on a flat floor in a circle or on a raised, rotating stage or one that lowers into a deeper area or even in the sky on top of a literal pillar! And there's always just widening the shot and "hey everybody, could you scooch in a lil' bit more please!".

If Mika does make it in, I think it'd be really cool if her V-Skill were a projectile-invincible Paradise Hold. That'd give her both an extra mobility tool and an easy command grab as well as a way for her to deal with projectile spam like most other SF grapplers (i.e. Zangief's Banishing Flat, Hugo's EX Lariat, etc.)

latest

Her Critical Art would likely be some variation of Daydream Headlock so I don't know where that'd leave room for the patented Sardine Beach Special unless they demote it to a special akin to Habanero Dash, but I'm intetested to see how she's handled regardless!

gamescom is likely a no go for new characters and info. Ono won't be there and Sony isn't doing a conference this year.
It's still one of the biggest public events and marketing opportunities, if not the. They can drop a trailer to coincide, not like everything has to line up with a conference.

I'd expect that over many other venues, maybe even TGS.

Seeing as there won't be any characters to unlock on release aka no on-disc or day-1 dlc, I wonder how long we'll have to wait until the first character is added. A lot of people seem to have assumed that Akuma or some kind of boss would be unlockables right off the bat :P

Ooh! Good idea! Didn't even notice the stone floor until you pointed it out :D

Not very long, I can assure you that. lol

I wouldn't be surprised if there's one or two "day 1" DLC characters.
I dunno...
In this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=18&v=5astnXVNptc

He said the important line (for us) of:
When the game drops there's not going to be another character available that you can unlock, because it is post-launch content that you can unlock with fight money. So the 16 character roster IS the core of street fighter five.

So. confirmed no unlockables on disc :o
( Timestamped linky for those who just want the bit I'm talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5astnXVNptc&feature=youtu.be&t=4m6s )
... sounds like Capcom says otherwise, unless they're being literal and they wait an hour or something after release to do it :P

With 5 slots remaining for returning characters.

IMO i think this will be the line-up

Urien
Alex
R. Mika
Karin
Sodom

New Characters

Son of Dhalsim
Guile's Daughter
Dan's Father

Weird, having a guy like Gouki as a preorder exclusive DLC or something would have been a good incentive to secure preorders, and it's something other fighters have done in the past (Adachi for P4U2 for instance). It could have been a good move.
Unless they give a voucher for preorders to get the first DLC chara for free (as in for no real nor in-game money) when he becomes available or something.

Hmmm... ono's going to be on Playstation Hong Kong's stream in 10 minutes... and Yang was on Ken's flier/card. I'm worried ¬.¬

edit: nevermind, I'm an idiot. the event is the 24th to 26th so the stream won't be today.

I think that comment is really just in reference to the actual on disk content. I used quotations because I don't necessarily think it'll be the day of launch, but I do think they'll want to show off their fight money system with some content pretty quickly.

Is there an occasion?
Actually, I could be getting the date wrong, it might not be today XD

As for the occassion:
It looks like the Playstation HK Twitch account is going to be streaming the events at the show, including Ono's

http://www.twitch.tv/playstationhk
http://blog.asia.playstation.com/hk-cht/2194/2015/07/香港動漫電玩節2015-playstation打造最強日系動漫電玩盛會/

Kayo and Daigo are going to be joining him for the SFV panel.

edit: Ok, the SFV event is on the 25th so definitely not today :P
My hype is making me too impatient XD

The beta is the preorder bonus. Why the hell do you need more than that as an incentive anyway if you are remotely interested in fighting games (or SF5 in particular). On top of that, preorder exclusive characters are just stupid. For so many reasons. Yeah, lets include one of the most iconic Street Fighter characters as an exclusive. If you buy the game after launch, you're SOL.

Does anyone even remember when you didn't preorder games for exclusive game content, or when you didn't have to do a lot of microtransactions (DLC) to get bonuses or a complete game? Boy, I sure do. You used to preorder for bonuses that had nothing to do with the actual game itself and was mostly just collector's content.

I'd like to see him in DLC, but I don't think he's got a hell in chance shot of being in the first 16 - although I might've said the same thing about Birdie a couple of months back!

I really hope we see some more charge characters, and one with more complex fighting system like Gen, but with better rewards. I mained Gen in SF4 but never thought the effort was worth the rewards, I just liked the character and idea of stances, but it was a hell of a lot of work when you could do just as much damage or more with an EX tatsu to the face. I want a character like that, but the effort you put in should reflect in damage done or opportunities for damage.

Why would you worry about getting Yang? He's a fun character to play.

I have never understood the infatuation with R Mika. Her design and play style came across more like a parody character almost more so than Dan.

Because there's still nobody on the roster that makes me want to enter the betas and Yang isn't going to change that in the slightest :P

She's fun and bubbly. I like my characters to look like they're at least enjoying themselves and if it makes my opponent more likely to hate themselves for losing to them then all the better :3

Anyone agree with the me that there should be an equal amount of female fighters to that of male ?

I think that's a fine notion for new fighting games but I don't know if I want Capcom trying their hand at a bunch of new designs just to the requisite amount of women in the game as their new designs aren't the strongest. Even if there was gender parity in the initial roster they would soon run out of veteran female fighters when increasing the roster size to something like SSF4 levels.

If the rumors (& my Juri guess) are on the money...
  • Male: Ryu, Nash, M. Bison, Birdie, Ken, Necalli, Alex, Urien, Rashid
  • Female: Chun-Li, Cammy, Karin, R. Mika, Laura, Juri, Zen
There's a chance that Rashid could be female & Zen could be a guy, but Rashid is kinda masculine. Likewise, Zen seems like a feminine name. But assuming this is the gender split, we're looking at a 56/44 split.

Should? I dunno thats not up to us. I would like there to be more female characters. And more like makoto that dont have to be super sexy all the time. Its one of the reasons i am not for r mika. I would like them to make like a new more badass female wrestler character thats physically larger.

I drew some stuff a while ago based on bret heart and the undertaker. Buts thats another thing.

I wouldn't say you need to go as far as full 50/50, but a reasonable amount of females is pretty important.

Which is why I'm inclined to believe the Siliconera rumours, because otherwise the roster will have like 3 female characters out of 16.

Anyone agree with the me that there should be an equal amount of female fighters to that of male ?
Despite wanting more female characters to play, I don't think 50/50 parity is really necessary. All that's really important, as far as I believe, is a diverse enough set of choices to cover an adequete number of people's tastes :3
It wouldn't really add anything if we had 50/50 gender split if all the females were just different takes on Chun-li for example :P (Hence my angst that most female characters tend to just end up being variants of the 'speed' type)
