"I'm not going to give them my money but I will certainly spend time with the games they make!"

Console warring is never logical.

It's not about "console warring", it's about Square's behaviour in this situation. (I'm not mad at Microsoft here. It was a good business opportunity for them and they'd have been stupid not to take it.) I've been a Tomb Raider fan for many years now and Square well knows that the majority of TR fans are on PC and Playstation. Now, the motivation behind using the whole "exclusively on Xbox holiday 2015" terminology was clearly to manipulate people into thinking it'd be a full exclusive so they'd run out and buy an Xbone. Sure, that didn't work out but it was the original intent. And who'd be the most willing to buy a console for this specific game? TR fans. They sold out a good portion of their fanbase to Microsoft for no good reason - that doesn't deserve to be rewarded with sales IMO so I won't reward them for it. I wouldn't be so upset if they'd said from the start that it's a timed exclusive, I wouldn't be so upset if they had actual financial problems and wouldn't have been able to finance the game on their own, etc. That's not the case, though. And it's not like I'm boycotting Square, I'm "boycotting" this particular product because I think they've made a lot of stupid, disrespectful decisions with it. There are other Square products - Life is Strange, for example - that I'll gladly support because they've made a lot of good decisions there, mainly simply deciding to publish it in the first place and to give Dontnod creative freedom.

There's enough games to play in a year, awful deal by MS in my opinion. By the time it releases there will probably be a slim and cheaper PS4 version and I will finally buy it.

A whole bloody year!?

Ugh, that's annoying, ah well, can't be helped, and at least it should be well optimised and have any bugs ironed out by then. They better include any DLC with it by that point too though, or at least something to make up for how flipping annoying this all is.

Although that does mean I know what I'll be getting my fiancée for Christmas next year. Would be cool if they do a special edition PS4 to go with it.

Anyone remember Capcom announcing RE4 for PS2 right before it launched on GCN? This reminds me of that. Seemed like a crazy move at the time.

Edit - lol it was mentioned on the first page, silly me

I guess you really had your bases covered then, because those are two completely different scenarios.

Not completely.

I've been saying this whole time it was either going to be 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, a year or never at all on PS4. Oh also any of the months in between those as well.

And well would you know, I was right!

That's so dumb. Now that we all know that the game will come to PS4 and PC, and when, WHO is gonna buy an Xbox One this holiday ?

They should have keep this secret for at least 2016.

Gamescom they gonna drop some bombs. Make people see the need for Xbone more than just for Tomb Raider. Crackdown, Quantum break, Scalebound. Halo, etc...

A bit too long of a wait for PS4 gamers, not to mention it'll get gobbled up by the other 3rd party games next holiday season. Nevertheless, it's surprising that the PC and PS4 versions are announced way before the release of the XBO version.

SE should release the PS4 version sooner if they want to maximize sales. Uncharted 4 will be out next March. Why not release it in June or something? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Why would they even announce this? Xbox One version just lost a lot of sales (not even including Fallout 4 overshadowing it)

Good to see PC players are happy

Uhhh, do you mind explaining your point ? The reboot did sell a lot iirc, I don't see how they failed on it. And why the PS4 version would sell poorly ?

By the time it releases on PS4 it could be seen as 'old' and people want that new shit, like Mass Effect, FFXV and Horizon. And probably also a lot more.

Well, time to cancel my Xbox One pre-order...

I can wait a few months for the superior version since I have a PC for it.

Man, my Xbox One is collecting dust... need some games that I want to play that aren't coming to PC.

The quality could be really high but we really are in the dark about qtr 4 2016 so it could be wiped out by big games when it does come out.
This is Square Enix's business decision and who cares. Because the game isn't canceled all that matters is that it will be good.

I'm talking strictly about the placement and the ability to overcome fresher games in its release window with probably higher marketing budgets because of their newness.

Does FF have a loyal fan base on XBO? Sales don't seem to indicate that.

Final Fantasy 13 sold 500,000 units on Xbox 360 in a month. Final Fantasy 7 is pretty much the game that made JRPGs mainstream in the US. It's one of those games that even people who don't regularly play JRPGs have fond memories of. Yes, it's going to sell significantly more on PS4, especially considering 13 sold more on PS3 despite a much lesser install base in the region - and now the roles are flipped, but Final Fantasy is a mainstream brand that has fandom across most platforms.

You sir, are a savvy gambler.

That was inevitable, though I didn't expect to hear an official confirmation this early. Was expecting they'd confirm it a few months after X1 release.

In any case, looking forward to playing it on the PC.

Are we really going to use the totally mediocre spin-off Type-O as an example?

Mainline FF games would likely be popular on whatever platform they released on.

I agree with you if that's PS or Nintendo platform. MS? I am not so sure especially FFXIII sold better on PS3 worldwide and better than X360 in US

It would sell some because it's a big game. It's pretty obvious that there isn't some huge loyal FF fan base on the XBO.

True, guess i missed it. But they'll probably do something to make the game more appealing to the PS4 owners, not just adding DLC, maybe they will sel it for $40 ? Idk.

It's kinda strange they'd announce this before the game has even come out on Xbox One.

I wonder if pre-order numbers were getting them worried. Capcom did this with the Gamecube version of RE4 and many saw it as a pretty obvious sign they didn't have confidence in it selling well enough to recoup costs or make up losses.

Though I'm not sure waiting an entire year for the PS4 version is smart. Again, even Capcom doesn't wait that long for updated versions of Street Fighter IV or Marvel vs. Capcom...

This delay only affects those ones extremely hyped for the game, I think everyone else might as well wait, we'll have many other games to play meanwhile.

Anyway, it's good that we got a confirmation for both PS4 and PC versions. If the game will be good I'll get it eventually, but if it's just like the previous one I think I'll pass.

Hopefully by the time it releases on the PS4 it won't be priced at $60
It will be.
and include any DLC released.

Just finished the last one on PS4 last week. Great game now that I finally got to put some time in it and actually play through it lol. This is great news, I'll pick it up Fall '16 then!

Windows 10 only is a shame, not interested in upgrading so early. Will play it later on.

Are we sure it requires Windows 10 on PC? The way the quote in the OP is written (Windows 10 via Steam) it looks like it is but reading the actually release it seems to refer to Windows 10 as a digital storefront (Windows 10 and Steam) and not a requirement.

That's so dumb. Now that we all know that the game will come to PS4 and PC, and when, WHO is gonna buy an Xbox One this holiday ?

They should have keep this secret for at least 2016.

I wonder if it's Square's MO to announce the duration of exclusivity before the game launches. Adam Boyes said the same info was going to come out before the remake of FF7 launches as well.

But tomb raider fans are mostly on playstation because Sony did this exact thing themselves. Tomb raider one was on the Saturn, Sony paid to keep it off the Saturn and it later came to PC. You're fine with them doing this once, but not twice?

Damn.. 1 year. It's almost full "exclusive" then. I can see some people buying the XB1 just for this now.

But is this source reliable?

Huh, don't know why they announced already then. Could just waited to announce for the PS4 next year.

Edit: I mean, the Xbox One version is not even out yet.
