"I'm not going to give them my money but I will certainly spend time with the games they make!"
Console warring is never logical.
It's not about "console warring", it's about Square's behaviour in this situation. (I'm not mad at Microsoft here. It was a good business opportunity for them and they'd have been stupid not to take it.) I've been a Tomb Raider fan for many years now and Square well knows that the majority of TR fans are on PC and Playstation. Now, the motivation behind using the whole "exclusively on Xbox holiday 2015" terminology was clearly to manipulate people into thinking it'd be a full exclusive so they'd run out and buy an Xbone. Sure, that didn't work out but it was the original intent. And who'd be the most willing to buy a console for this specific game? TR fans. They sold out a good portion of their fanbase to Microsoft for no good reason - that doesn't deserve to be rewarded with sales IMO so I won't reward them for it. I wouldn't be so upset if they'd said from the start that it's a timed exclusive, I wouldn't be so upset if they had actual financial problems and wouldn't have been able to finance the game on their own, etc. That's not the case, though. And it's not like I'm boycotting Square, I'm "boycotting" this particular product because I think they've made a lot of stupid, disrespectful decisions with it. There are other Square products - Life is Strange, for example - that I'll gladly support because they've made a lot of good decisions there, mainly simply deciding to publish it in the first place and to give Dontnod creative freedom.
