Rise of the Tomb Raider coming to PC Early 2016. PS4 Holiday 2016

You know what would be really hilarious/fucked up? IF it ends up selling more on PS4 a year later than XB1 at launch. It's not happening but if it did, lmao.
No way this happens. This is going to heavily get bundled for every X1 this holiday, think SS treatment but with the TR franchise pull. Sony on the other hand is going to market games that actually release that year on all platforms.

What if the patches are also timed exclusive and are staggered with the same delay relative to the platform's release date.
I won't buy it. In video ge world, 1 year delay involved a big price drop.
I won't buy a 1 year old game full price.

Even though they are releasing on the same day, TR is still in the way different genre than F4. They are not targeting the same audience. They are not direct competitors.

I imagine there is a massive amount of crossover between people interested in buying Fallout 4, and RotTR.

Or what? You'll Grumble on the Internet?

Yeah, that is exactly what he meant. Come on man.

Clearly he was referring to that the sales would be abysmal if it was full price a year later, while the XBox version sits at $20-$30 max.

lol ok

You realize it's entirely possible Tomb Raider (2013) sold more copies on 360 than PS3, right? I'm not sure we have an official breakdown, but the game sold very well on Xbox 360 and most third party titles sold more copies on Xbox last generation.

A game like Tomb Raider is the type of title Xbox players are more than fine paying money for.

Now, if you're referring to PS owners being more receptive to a game like FF...yeah, probably. But that doesn't change the fact that these deals are very, very similar. Sony clearly made a deal with SE to keep FFVII off of XB1 for a period of exclusivity. I personally couldn't care less...it's business. These things have never bothered me.

The PS3 version outsold the 360 version and TR Definitive PS4 outsold XB1. Grand total XB platforms 2.1 million. PS platforms 3.4 million.

Should have just announced this as "First on XBox", that is how you announce a non-exclusive title ambiguously, with class and respect that fans from other platforms can accept, nay embrace.

Maybe Square will soon release their financial report for calendar Q2 [April-June], and they need some news cleared out so that there will be less stock fluctuations.

Somebody should tweet this information to Greenberg and company to get a feel for how they respond.

This almost seems like SE is acting salty toward Microsoft. I cannot imagine you would want this information out so early if you bought exclusivity rights. Maybe Microsoft is happy to have this information about it coming to Windows 10?

Selling *better* doesn't mean it didn't sell at all on the other platform. Businesses don't ignore that sort of thing. It still sold decently on the 360.

Some of y'all *really* hoping FFVII doesn't come to XB1 huh? lol

Then what stop them from releasing FFX HD on X1? It's a mainline FF and it's on PS4 as well

So is it a Windows 10 exclusive which lets it release 9 to 10 months before the PS4? Not complaining though since I'm upgrading anyway and I can cancel my Xbox One version pre-order since the wait for the PC version is so short.

And Square Enix are sending this game to die on the PS4. It's going to compete with either FFXV, KH3,or maybe even both come next holiday 2016.

Even if so what does it matter its great that all consoles and PC will get to play Tomb Raider and its crummy that SFV is locked down on consoles...thats it....or is it cool that Sony did that because well Sony?

Pretty sure Sony turned down helping respawn
I think it's shitty that MS paid a company to delay 2 other versions of the game that were already(?) announced so they could have their holiday exclusive. SFV is a bit of a different story (since it wasn't already in full development) and is partially funded by Sony as far as I've heard.

If those numbers are accurate (I have no reason to believe they aren't, but you should probably provide a link....and make sure it isn't Chartz), I stand corrected. Still, it's obvious MS made a good business move by securing this title. Depending on the details of the agreement, it may or may not have been a good decision for Square Enix.

Pretty sure the XB1 version of RotTR was the only version officially announced when the exclusivity deal was unveiled. The game was first revealed at the MS press conference during E3 2014 and the only confirmed platform at the time was Xbox One (maybe 360 as well, I don't recall) And SFV is likely a different situation (Capcom claims they couldn't afford to develop the game alone) but FFVII Remake probably isn't. I doubt SE needs funding help from Sony to develop that title.

Ya I think that's pretty much how it's done for MS and Sony now, they just say "Console Debut" or "First on so and so" for everything. I think everyone learned from the Tomb Raider debacle.

So it's 6 months later than I thought it would be. That's fine. I hope it comes with DLC if they're still going to sell it at full price.

On the subject of FF 13 even at its worse with the PS3 and MS best with the Xbox 360 FF13 still so alot more on the PS3.

Why don't people understand how this works. Publishers don't make decisions on whether to bring a game to a console based on whether their game is going to sell more on another console, they make it based on whether the game is going to sell enough on the platform they're porting it too to justify the cost/effort. For example, a publisher isn't going to leave a million sales on the table simply because the game sold 3 million more on another platform.

LOLOLOLOL!!! The game is more popular in Europe where PS3 doing better than 360. Even in US where 360 was destroying Ps3, the sales were very close (54% 46%).

Chronology was that the game was announced without platforms and a trailer at E3.

Then at Gamescom it was announced that it was coming exclusive to Xbox in Holiday 2015 (and then there was a comma somewhere that made it difficult to understand) with stills from the E3 trailer.

Greenberg tweeted out: Square Enix confirms @tombraider Xbox 1 year console exclusivity until holiday 2016, Win 10 version coming 2016 http://t.co/kAHiHoCHuV

LMAO. A full year? Lol. This actually IS one reason why I want an Xbox One, and being told I should wait that long is asking a lot. May pick this up alongside Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, and Scalebound. Oh, and ReCore.

See the FFVII thread, many are confused by that as well, thinking it'll be PC not Xbox as well.

Yep, everybody agrees it sold Ok on the 360.
Shit, you must have missed other threads where I had people grasping at straws to avoid admitting this. All in an effort to say that there wasn't any good reason to make an XB1 version of the FFVII Remake.

Obviously there is a bigger market on one platform, but that doesn't make another platform useless to cater to.

Regardless, in this case, Tomb Raider has plenty of appeal for whatever platform.

It will sell like shit for them on PS4 one year later, I hope that MS's cheque will be good enough to cover for the losses.
Not salty, I really want the game to be a success , I loved the reboot and the direction the sequel is going for (more puzzles and exploring) and I wouldn't want it to bomb.

Tomb Raider is likely to further lose relevance in European markets with this kind of release strategy. Xbox One just isn't a big thing.

First all i said was at least this isnt locked down like SFV because that sucks....just like every other 3rd party exclusive from every console maker. Its stupid on all fronts from Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo....you are the one who is trying to defend Sonys reasoning and bashing Microsofts. If you think SFV needed help from Sony to launch, but respawn or CD didnt well it must feel great to see the gaming world that way.

The PS4/PC versions were never announced, only implied (since the last game was multi-platform).

I doubt the game was developed with exclusivity in mind, but customers were never deceived,

Well, to be fair, there were still a hold out of people that always scoffed at people thinking this game would come out on PS4 until this announcement.

And people will take this as a sign SFV will come to Xbox One... Already seeing some Facebook posts trying to relate the two.

Not MOST people. Most don't have $240 a month to drop on new games in one month.

I got all these in a single day. When I see games I want, I get them all lol, even if I don't immediately get around to playing them right away. I've still yet to open GTA 5 for my Xbox One.
