Rise of the Tomb Raider coming to PC Early 2016. PS4 Holiday 2016

I'll grab it for PC, hoping to see some DX12 effects

Mankind Divided will use DX12, and that game is also slated for 1H 2016.

And DX12 is not for adding new effects, it is mostly for giving developers faster access to hardware and taking advantage from all resources [especially on CPU side]. Expect the game to run better, not to have more "DX12 effects". And BTW, "more effects" is a thing that will naturally happen in a case when awesome Nixxes ports any Eidos game to PC [if nothing else, lots of sliders for old built-in visual effects].

Yeah, the whole Maxwell and GCN 1.0-2 line does
DX12 support goes back to 400 series cards with Nvidia and all 7000 series cards with AMD.

Don't think this will be getting DX12 support, though. Tomb Raider 2013 was a supremely GPU-dependent game and it'd very surprising to see the devs go through all the extra effort for what would likely be a minor performance improvement.

So the game first release on the lowest selling system (and the 360 won't sell much according to new gen/ old gen ratios of cross gen titles) and between fallout 4, blak ops 3 and battlefront ?

It will be a bad fight for Lara. I hope that ps4 players will have time to play uncharted 4 and still have appetite for Lara a year later... Ps4 version better be goty / dlc packed... Because delaying for a year and saying so a year a a half before just seem so arbitrary

"First on Xbox".

See? Is it that hard, Microsoft? No deception, no misleading, no confusion, no backtracking, no discombobulation, no vagueness, no dancing around the issue, no coyness, no smug smirks, no shadiness, no muddling, no annoyance.

I still can't believe how hard they tap-danced around the exclusivity thing for months before all parties involved gave out a muddled "well, um, you never know. It's a timed kind of thing, for sure, but we can't talk about it."

Still, a year's wait is going to really cut into sales, and announcing PC and PS4 versions before the Xbox One version is out is going to cut into those sales too... and it's heading right into a Holiday jam-packed with much bigger, much more hyped, much more exciting titles. Same day as Fallout 4 is insane.

This deal makes no sense to me. A year after is so long. As somebody who owns both but only really wants a ps4 version I don't mind waiting but I won't pay 60 for it.

So what are they going to do? Definitive edition with DLC. But then by doing that they lose out on PS4 DLC money.

But I guess it gives them a way to charge 60 instead whatever cheap price the game would regularly be at. I wonder how much this cost. It's a big deal. Hopefully it pays off.

I'm not picking it up till its cheapppp unless it turns out way better than the first.

How can you say a deal doesn't make sense when you don't know the specifics of the deal. We don't even know how much money Microsoft is paying square for this.

360 version when it hits $10 or !ess on amazon and 1 year later will be all about Zelda U.

I never pay full price for games that released after/beyond year one!

They acted so stupidly bad about it that I think there is a good chance the initial deal about that game was signed during reign of Mattrick, and they had to follow the letter of the stupid contract.

Fine by me. PS4 version will probably be GOTY Edition with all DLC thrown in.

Except... all DLCs for last TR were shit. One 5 minute "tomb" for preorders, and several irrelevant skins for Lara.

The 2 games are completely different. One game is a linear game focused on narrative while Tomb Raider is more open and has a bigger emphasis on gameplay. I thought the previous Tomb Raider was a better game than any of the Uncharted games. The narrative in Tomb Raider was bad but I loved the narrative in the Uncharted games. You play the games for different reasons.

Lol this is complete BS.

Shit, you must have missed other threads where I had people grasping at straws to avoid admitting this. All in an effort to say that there wasn't any good reason to make an XB1 version of the FFVII Remake.

Obviously there is a bigger market on one platform, but that doesn't make another platform useless to cater to.

Regardless, in this case, Tomb Raider has plenty of appeal for whatever platform.

Which other thread? The one where you thought FFXV is going to sell million(s) on XB1?

Because excuse me while I laugh.

I have to wonder if Microsoft even knew the status of the game's exclusivity when they announced it at E3. Square-Enix waiting to monitor fan reaction before signing a deal seems more likely that Microsoft intentionally confusing people.

Great news. I really only wanted to play this on PC anyway.

LMAO. A full year? Lol. This actually IS one reason why I want an Xbox One, and being told I should wait that long is asking a lot. May pick this up alongside Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, and Scalebound. Oh, and ReCore.
There are plenty of reasons to pick up an Xbox One this year. Rise of the Tomb Raider is just the icing on the cake. :)

Glad to see its not a full exclusive and all three platforms (X1, PS4, PC) are able to try it out. I am not a fan of any timed exclusive nonsense on either console but glad a third party game like this is not a full-exclusive.

Will be picking this up along with Fallout 4 on the same day, very excited.

How is this any more shitty than Sony paying money to keep ffvII off of the Xbox for an undisclosed amount of time? Deals like this really suck and alienate a portion of the audience, no matter what company does it, it's shitty for gamers.

everything about the business decisions behind this game just haven't made a whole lot of sense to me.

Square not happy with the sales somehow
releases the PS4/XBO version that sells ~2:1 on PS4
Microsoft buys "exclusivity"
"was only way to make the game happen"
Microsoft builds up their "exclusive" fall/holiday lineup
promotes Fallout 4 that releases same day as tomb raider
Square now announces that o hey so that game that you all knew couldn't have possibly been exclusive, isn't. some will just need to wait a year.

Very interested to see the November NPD numbers on this game.

as far as releasing holiday 2016 on PS4 im okay with this as long as its away from Horizon. really enjoyed the last tomb raider game am excited to eventually play this one.

Yikes, 1 year as a console exclusive. Definitely picking it up on XB1 or PC now. XB1 on projector or PC on a Gsync screen at higher framerates... hmmm

And I think you don't pay enough attention to sales data.

You were corrected plenty in that thread too.

But continue pretending it'll sell million(s).
I was not corrected at all. I was thrown a bunch of info about Type-O and other shit. FFXIII sold well on 360. Many people tried *very* hard to avoid admitting that. Perhaps you were one of them.

How about a bet? I'd be willing to put down $50 it sells at least a million on XB1.

I think that in the end SE will hurt TR's sales and visibility, annoy the fanbase and "lose" (earn less) money with this exclusivity deal.

Will play the PS+ version in 2017 when the "Down of the TR" will be announced.

Oh I see. The sales data completely flew past you huh? No one is saying that FFXV isn't going to sell on XB1. But you tried to do this whole, "it'll sell millions on XB1" thing.

Perhaps you didn't understand the specifics on which the argument was premised.

Edit: A bet lol, and the easiest one you could come up with. A million? Go back to what you were talking about in the previous thread. Which was millions.

Final Fantasy XIII sold a little under 500K in the US opening month on 360. I'm honestly not sure it even hit 1 million copies on 360 worldwide.

At least ffvii originally came out on PSone.

The odds are the market for FF VII on XBO is even much smaller than the market for FF 13 was on 360. The XBO doesn't have the advantage of a larger install base or a JRPG base built upon JRPG money hats. The 360 had quiet a few exclusive JRPGs to try to build that fan base. The One has none of that. Also, looking at sales splits, the current XBO install base is even more sports/shooter fan based than the 360 was.
