Rise of the Tomb Raider coming to PC Early 2016. PS4 Holiday 2016

I still can't believe they did all this after 3.4 million sales in one month last time was deemed as "under performing"... and the game sold MOST on Playstation systems globally.

I really do wonder if this deal was made when folks thought the Xbox One was just going to keep the Xbox 360 momentum going and before the PS4 became a runaway success.

It'a not a matter of what they are calling it. A remake is completely different from a remaster. More clarification for any one else reading this than for you.

Fine, remake. I fixed my original post. My question still stands.

Since they're being so transparent now about Rise of the Tomb Raider exclusivity, surely they'll want to tell us really soon about the Final Fantasy VII remake exclusivity... Right?

are you being serious here?

One is a Microsoft exclusivity deal, the other is a Sony exclusivity deal. I wouldn't expect the same level of clarity until much further down the line, if we even get it pre-release

Boyes already said that SE and Sony will be disclosing more details about the exclusivity (which already was implied to be timed by the "play it first on PS4" statement) later this year.

Take that as you will.

The game was announced in June of last year and exclusivity was announced at Gamescom. The PS4 was already a clear-cut success by that point so I don't think so.

IIRC someone here had already verify that this was a last minute deal and that the game was a Multiplatform game from the start (Was it Kagari who said it? I can't remember...).

You talking about the first game? I bought that on PSN a couple of years ago, had several 360 play through under my belt, I never witnessed anything that was considerably better.

In fact the 360 version suffers from huge frame rate drops and excessive screen-tearing, while the PS3 version runs with v-sync (no screen tearing) at a higher frame rate, often 30 fps locked in scenes where the Xbox original dips into the lower twenties. Less pop-in due to installed game files. Even though performance isn't great on both versions.
There are some downsides/differences on PS3 aswell (no AA, Bloom, motion blur and less film grain) but no screen tearing and higher frame rate is improving especially battle scenes a lot.

I think the said we would find out more later this year so maybe? The game isn't releasing until late 2017 at the absolute earliest so I guess there is no rush...

Doubt it. That story would actually be really interesting. The game was announced at E3 after the PS4 and XB1 were released. It went up for preorder at most game retailers including amazon and GAME for the PS4 too. Then month(s) or so later at Gamescom it was announced as exclusive. Now I'm not sure if there was a mistake somewhere between these events but the retailers had it up to buy for other platforms. At the same time I think MS had a trademark for "Rise of" before E3 or something but I'm not sure if that was/is related.

Good news for the PS4 players:

They already described it on stage as "first on playstation" so you can easily take a guess that it will be out later on other platforms, maybe pc, maybe Xbox One, maybe both - pretty much the same as tomb raider was.

Coming closer to the remake's launch, maybe they will start talking about it.

Or maybe they will just out a PC or Xbox version at Gamescom; it's entirely up to them and their plans for that product that they have with whoever they partner with, such as Sony in this case. It doesn't have to be any particular way

This leaves Quantum Break as the only reason (except maybe Recore) for me to buy an Xbox One. Can't wait for the PC version of that.

Exactly. Double standards.
And if so, I'm not a fan.

Some people above said it will be detailed this year, which if so is fair enough. But given TR took a year to announce it and we don't have an official timeframe on FF7r (I don't think?) release you might be waiting longer.

They did announce it as "first on PS4" though so that was some info

You never know they might have done this to galvanise more pre-orders for those who "were waiting for the PS4/PC versions" I still find it odd that thwy revealed this 4 months before the release of the game and not after.

Nah it was probably made around E3 last year because the game initially was announced for ps4 as well.
Imo the key reason behind the deal is the fact that Microsoft will buy million copies for bundles like they did last year with AC:Unity, also they will pay for the marketing and help with development. This coupled with the fact that competition with Uncharted was strong on PS4, convinced them to sign the deal.
Uncharted delay has ruined their plans because now they're forced to release the game on PS4 too late and this will compromise sales on that platform.

Was a huge fan of the previous Tomb raider and was looking forward to this. But there is no way i'm going to be able to stay spoiler free for a year while waiting for the PS4 version. So i might as well watch it on youtube because if the game is anything like the previous one, your not really playing it for the awesome gameplay...

Recore is vaporware at this point, just a pre-rendered movie.

I'm aware, like the Tomb Raider deal, I'm really curious though how long that "first on Playstation" period is.

I'm surprised SE told us before RotTR comes out for Xbox One, but I wish they'd have done the same for all of their "timed exclusivity" games.

If you're going to be transparent about one, go full gambit and give us all the details on all the exclusivity deals. This patchwork of announcements is annoying.

Every one of Remedy's titles has made it to PC before, right? Unless I'm overlooking one.

Quantum Break is an Xbox One only game.

Alan is Remedy's IP while QB belongs to MS. It's a little different but I think MS will put it on PC.

Correct me if wrong.

You're correct but I doubt MS would put it on PC they still need exclusives for Xbox One. I doubt any major AAA exclusive game is gonna go to PC.

Exactly. Double standards.
And if so, I'm not a fan.

IIRC Tomb Raider was basically presented as an exclusive, wasn't clarified until there was a large backlash and we didn't get any clarification on release until now.

FF7 was at least announced as first on PS4.

Regardless, I don't really care much either way about this type of thing if you guys are really that offended by these tactics complain to MS/Sony's social media and boycott the game. Only way this stuff will change.

They specifically said they'd give us the information on how long FFVII remake is exclusive to PS4? Really?

Boyes describes the FFVII remake project as a “partnership” with Square. He’s not saying if they are helping fund it or really what the partnership entails, just that the game is that it is making its console debut on PlayStation 4 first.

In fact, Boyes said gamers will know how long the PS4’s timed-exclusivity lasts relatively soon. “We’ll be disclosing that to everyone before the game comes out, so everyone will know.”

Also:

Nomura: You’ll be able to play it first on the PS4, that’s for certain. After that we still haven’t thought about it, so it’s undecided. Square Enix will be releasing a crop of titles for the PS4 in the future, so we hope that with the support of these titles it will help push the hardware and boost the industry.

Expected.
I am sure they will have a GOTY version for PS4 so buyers don't feel completely ripped off.

Anyways, glad they are finally being transparent about this.

lol

The amount of money MS would need to give Square for that...

I think they paid more than enough for this exclusivity window, and most likely it will not perform as well as they hoped.

I dunno, I don't see many people double dipping many games, and having cross buy could drive sales from people who wouldn't get but might if they have to get the game a single time and play everywhere, specially if they had a better deal on royalties compared to steam for instance.

That sounds good to me :D

I wonder if MS are still supporting the project full force atm? Maybe it might mean some DX12 exclusive features come early next year :)
