Rise of the Tomb Raider coming to PC Early 2016. PS4 Holiday 2016

Xbox you get to play it at full price, early nov 2015, or wait for the value to depreciate and purchase it when it hits a lower price point. This usually takes a few months on console.

A few months? Try a few weeks! The game is hitting in November, and if this holiday is anything like the last, then we'll be seeing all of the AAA games at up to 50% off.

Kind of a mixed bag for me. On one hand I was expecting a summer release for both PC and PS4 and so I'm glad the PC is earlier than I had thought. But on the other hand I'm a little annoyed the PS4 is so late.

I loved the first game so now the decision is do I get the likely gimped XB1 version or wait for PC and perhaps double dip on PS4 much later.

I think I may put both XB1 and 360 in my Gamefly list and then wait to buy when it lands on PC. Assuming it doesn't come out and disappoint obviously.

I will just buy it on the XBOX 360. I don't need it on my PS4 and I'm not a graphics whore so it will work out for me fine. I will play tomb raider during the November and UC4 MP beta during the holidays and then UC4 on the PS4 in March. Fine by me.

Safe to say the "GotY" edition will be used for the PS4 as well. A lot of people had predicted that (although my personal prediction was summer 2016 for PS4).

Yep. I'd wager much like ME2, where the PS3 version came with all the DLC. Hopefully there'll be some visual enhancements as well. I won't be buying it at full price though.

Surprise Surprise.

So it'll be (pulling numbers out of my assumption):

November 10th, 2015 for XB1
February 9th, 2016 on PC
November 15th, 2016 on PS4 alongside XB1's GOTY Edition (lol).

Perfect time to capitalize on Black Friday Xbox One sales (watch MS release a Tomb Raider bundle) and once those sales die down, the PC port comes out four months later. PS4 version is just MS being salty, one year later to coincide with a GOTY edition release for the Xbox One.

Why would PS4 only users disappointed by this news?
Don't they have Uncharted 4 already for early 2016? If I were one, I would be totally fine with this.

200k, 300k at most on PS4 ($60) full price Definitive Edition? Looks like a 2017 title for me when dirt cheap if I still remember it exist.

I'm pretty sure Square made bank w/ MS money.

I think Sony wouldn't risk it. They know pretty much everyone's hyped for The Last Guardian (due to their legacy) therefore making it a fall title would be a smart move.

However Horizon is a brand new IP (Last Guardian is too but its a Spiritual Successor) even if it looks great summer is the best bet since games hardly come out in summer.

I think they both come out in the fall. I think Sony wants this 2016 fall to be heavy on exclusives after hearing all the moaning and groaning for 3 fall's that they don't have any exclusive games.

I have an Xbox One, but that doesn't mean I want the industry to make this practice normalized and acceptable.

As a Tomb Raider fan, I also think it's not a smart decision to make the series more successful and popular.

I'm fine with the news though I have a 360 so I can play it on there. I thought most users on here had PC's they could play it on?

Square Enix is going to regret this, unless Microsoft is paying them enough to compensate for all the ps4 owners who will pass on this because of how late it's coming.

I don't think buying a last gen game at launch is a good idea. Better to get the best version on Xbox or PC later.

The X360 port...?

I don't really see why waiting a year would make a good game unappealing. If you're super keen to play the game, and your only avenue is a PS4, why would you NOT buy the game a year after the Xbone release? It's primarily a single player game, and it's not like the gaming landscape is going to change drastically in 1 year and the game will be hopelessly outdated.

I don't know, I guess I don't feel the need to have the absolute newest game these days except in very specific instances (like a multiplayer centric game where the community size is important, or something like a Souls game where it's fun to discover the game at the same time as others)

I wish these companies would stop with this 3rd party exclusive nonsense. It doesn't benefit the customer in any way. If I want to play the bloody thing I'll have to drag the kid's console down to the front room, piss about with wires, set it all up and clutter up the place. Pain in the arse so it is.

SE wouldnt want to release in spring with U4, holiday seem perfect for PS4.

So instead of competing with Uncharted 4 you compete with Mass Effect 4, FFXV, Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Zero Dawn, etc. as a year old port? I don't think avoiding Uncharted again is the reason the deal lasts a year. If so SE is crazy.

This kind of practice has been around for years for late PC ports.

That's what I'm talking about.

Not everyone likes Uncharted...

I thought it's quite similar to Tomb Raider?

New game syndrome, many a time I've told myself I'll get x game later only be distracted by awesome looking game y, then Z gets announced which snowballs on and on until game x gets put on the perpetual backburner or forgotten.

Indeed not, but maybe they know that they're working on a definitive version of the game to be released during holiday 2016 on multiple platforms including potential DLCs and other advancements. In that case they couldn't justify to release a normal version and the definitive version spaced out by mere months....
Or maybe the deal with MS is for a full year and that's it.
We don't know what's happening behind the scenes so a few things might seem weird.
Point is that whatever is the case their sales on PS4 are compromised, they know that but they did their choices.

Not sure if joking.

This gen has bene the gen of the last gen port. They've sold well, pretty consistently. This will too.

This is first timed exclusive though released late on PS4 though. We have no data on that. I guess technically Plants v Zombies Garden Warfare was the first, but EA had so little confidence in it that it was made free immediately.

Actually I know what you mean! So many games I am interested in that I never got around to trying.
