Fighting Games Weekly | July 20-26 | No Gods or Kings, Only Tears

Well 2 things.

Marvel is anime.

and lol, there goes the anime-only major thing.
Maybe we need a classification under anime for things like Marvel that are anime but not anime. Like when we made Pluto a dwarf planet instead of a planet.

Dang, Florida is busy with its anime.
Florida has a well-deserved reputation for having about 30,000 anime cons a year, in various states of imploding/splintering/rebirth.

I really, really dunno what to make of the latest couple of CEOtaku choices. It sounds like Jebailey's hands were sort of forced by changes in management at the previous, smaller venue he was going to use (and which he'd used for quarterly events before), but I dunno how I feel about jumping up to "we need twice as many people now." Or Marvel.

Gross.

Words hurt. Take it back Shouta.

Look in your heart, you know it to be true.

Well that explains Florida. I mean that state is already nuts as it is. There's a reason why we have it as a meme.

But yeah, jumping to more than double the previous number and marvel is really something.

Marvel is anime. Accept it

Wow, Rip actually got into some online matches yesterday.

From what I saw it seems like the graph they show during loading screen are for your preformance overall, but it also grades your match preformance at the results screen. You also get 10000 in FM for wins. On his second game he earned 12000 FM instead of the previous amount too. Might have to do with the fact that he won two rounds straight, but I'm not sure.

Marvel made a heel turn and joined anime because it didn't feel appreciated enough at Capcom. They're pushing street fighter and even SFxT while trying to scrub away marvel like WWE did Hulk Hogan. It was only a matter of time before Marvel joined anime in order to ascend to the true kusoge status that it was always denied

He hasn't actually added Marvel. If the internet wasn't talking nervous I doubt he'd have even brought up Capcom's favorite air-dasher.

Jebailey knows taku is ambitious, he knows its dangerous to his brand and finances, and he knows it hinges on public opinion. The day those risks talk Jebailey out of something though Hell will have frozen over. Everything he's ever done, particularly with CEO itself, has been a risk. Besides, his track record with arguably stupid gambles is pretty strong when he isn't at the Bally's Roulette table.

I'm biased though as a fan of promoters taking risks. Particularly ones that wont' hurt anyone other than the promoter.

Being close to SCR is unfortunate, but SCR changed times more than once this year. Considering the level of event saturation that means they were bound to hit next to, or on top of, a regional event somewhere else.

It also was like a few days before Evo, and an invitational. And had no advertisement.

It still bugs me at the lack of advertising people do for their own events. There was a Facebook post in May, then nothing until the week prior.

CEOtaku is going to need people to come through to offset the cost of switching venues. Hopefully it all works out, but I also worry about the amount of oversaturation on an already crowded tournament schedule where broke ass gamers have to choose which events to go to.

Ultimately, players have to choose which events are right for them for their budget and experience.

Marvel is an international game. Team Big Body armored and piped and SPD'ed all the pixies flight characters. NOT ANIME.

What the heck is American Anime? Is that LinkenPark music playing over DBZ or something?

Linkin Park playing over dbz will always be the shit bruh u know u be getting hype don't even front lmao

What's that airbender show, isn't that American created?

Marvel is anime in disguise. Like someone mentioned previously, it's the gateway drug to anime.

The matches are at 22:00, 27:00, 32:00, 36:00.

Rip said he was experiencing a bit of lag in his first match.

I wonder what the "V10" is that shows up next to your online credentials. Perhaps a ranking system? Definitely not XP level.

Yeah. I figured he hadn't officially. The trepidation is warranted though considering the huge jump but suggesting Marvel is actually a decent idea in response to the risks he has. It just kind of loses a bit of the edge that it would be an anime-only event, to the general player. We all know Marvel is anime here.

Jebailey knows taku is ambitious, he knows its dangerous to his brand and finances, and he knows it hinges on public opinion. I don't think it's necessarily dangerous to his brand as his track record with CEO itself is great. My concern is how this affects his finances for the main CEO and to an extent, how it reflects on the anime community should it end up not being a resounding success. As much as we know it shouldn't, I have this bad feeling some people will think more poorly of the anime community if they don't show up in force. =/

I'm biased though as a fan of promoters taking risks. Particularly ones that wont' hurt anyone other than the promoter.

I think risks are great but gambles are very different when compared to risks. A gamble is going big and potentially losing big where a risk has some negative repercussion but is calculated. Granted, that's my view of things.

This lands on the side of a gamble to me when looking at the situation. SCR close-by, anime community isn't as big as Smash or SF, min number of attendees to break even is high, and then there's the demographics of the player base as well. A lot of folks that main anime games tend to be on the younger side, late teens to early or mid-20s. That usually means less disposable income or they're busy with school thus can't afford to go to a ton of events. Then there's a big event that folks travel to the week before too. It's just a really rough situation to justify going big.

You're right on SCR, as they have moved a few times this year. My concern when bringing up SCR actually is more about 'taku's potential influence on the landscape of next year's tourney season should it be a success.

I felt it would've been rude.

Blanka players are way less frustrating than a footsie only Gen. That match-up is probably the most awful in the game for Hawk. >=|

Also, I'm serious about Marvel being anime.

Anime in Japan is anything animated. So even Marvel is technically anime. Manga and Comics have a little more distinction but even actual mangas are referred to as comics as well so yeah. MARVEL IS ANIME.

Boondocks is Korean, too. :D

The first season was by Madhouse, so it's Korean AND Japanese.

All your old "American" cartoons had work that was outsourced to Korean/Japanese studios as well.

Yes even the Simpsons.

Not Kappa Mikey, 100% American made, baby
Our animation legacy lives on. Spongebob even had a quip about it

Marvel and DC are both anime.

I can't imagine you playing Gat lol

I can play him, I'm just not proficient with him. I'll practice spacing with him later on.

I tried telling this to people heavily into anime, but they weren't having this.
