Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

Halo 3 sucks major ass. Slow movement speed and shitty sounding and feeling weapons makes it my least favorite Halo, right below Halo 2.

I guess this is pertinent to current discussion.

My "controversial" gaming opinions are

- that over-sexualization isn't a bad thing if it is done equally across genders.
- looking sexy isn't sexist if the character is developed to be more than just a sexual object and the attire is fitting of the universe or character's personality.
- Loli, or moe art creeps me out and will cause me to not play a game.
- I don't like turn based combat systems at all.

Localized games are better with English voices than Japanese ones. Always. Even if the English voices are bad.

I agree. But primarily because I don't speak Japanese and the fact they always seem to exaggerate (especially the women sound like 10-year old girls).

I don't think Horizon looks particularly interesting. Looks like 3rd person Far Cry with robots and particle effects and that's really not enough to light my fire these days.

The Last Guardian also does absolutely nothing for me and everything they've said about the catbirddog not necessarily doing what you want it to when you ask it to do things becuase it behaves like a real wild animal sounds like the dullest, most frustrating shit.

Shenmue 3 and the FFVII remakes similarly made me shrug. I suppose it's because I have no nostalgic stakes in either franchise.

Basically what I'm saying is that Sony's E3 conference completely bored me and I could have napped through the whole thing and not really missed anything worthwhile.

And I'm saying I have no idea what makes you hype but I've got a feeling it'd turn me--and a lot of other GAF members--all the way off.

Controversial opinion: I like consoles' chances better than handhelds' as we head towards the One Mobile Future. Phones are just handheld consoles that don't have a good control scheme and can make calls. While consoles can offer unique experiences via life-like graphics, enormous stages, larger crowds, and more complex AI--mobiles are gradually going to take over the spot for handhelds.

I found Dragons Dogma to be an unplayable mess and returned it the next day. Pained me, seeing as it came so highly recommended but my experience was terrible.

Persona 3?
I mean, I would disagree that Persona 4 or 3 are actually bad games, but there are truly some stinkers in the back catalog.
like that Baby making game.
That is certainly a stinker in my eyes, but that's only developed by Spike Chunsoft, so I can't totally blame them since they were publishing it.

And then Type-0's localization VO vast walks into the room...

The mechanics in The Last of Us are exposed as flawed on the highest difficult setting. You notice enemy spawns and that enemies go against the rules the game sets up for them (fucking sewer level)

The witcher 3 is not in the same stratosphere as Skyrim. It really disappoints me that the two games are compared so much as Skyrim is so much more satisfying and has much more replay value due to different types of characters.

Very disappointed in myself for buying Witcher on digital as I really wish I could sell it.

Skyrim sucks. Don't care about The Witcher. Haven't played it.

The Souls games aren't the only kinds of games that require skill and patience. Although reading some impressions you'd think those games invented the concept of difficulty in a game.
It's revolutionary that you have to wait for a mob to finish swinging its weapon before you do.

Oh boy I suppose I have a number of relevant things.

1.) FFXIII is in the top 5 Final Fantasy games and a great game
2.) Tomb Raider 2013 is a better game than Uncharted
3.) Resident Evil 5&6 were both great games
4.) FFVIII > FFIX > FFVII

There's controversial, and then there's just plain wrong. Sorry bud!

Just kidding, but damn...

FF13 is terrrrible, and IX is X times the game VIII is.

Which one? If you said the first or the third then, I agree.

1.) i agree
2.) yup
3.) 6 was the best
4.) i would change 8 with 12

Skyward Sword had the best controls in the series.

Yeesh i gotta disagree on this one. I think the Wii Motion is what made me dislike the game. But in its defense the Wii Motion was most problematic in getting side quests and heart pieces which you technically didn't have to do. And also I've only played it once. I didn't think much of Wind Waker at the time but playing WWHD years later I absolutely loved it.

I've only played Uncharted 1 so I can only say 1, but I have a feeling I'd still like it better than 2 and 3 (which I plan on playing on the HD version). Holy cow I'm surprised there are actually agreements. Rock on.

Oh lord, Uncharted 1 is fucking crap compared to 2 and 3.

Uncharted 2 is amazing, you're going to be mindblown..... in 60fps lol.

The more Pokemon the better. Keep making more. Let's go to 4 digits. As long as they are all available. Not as keen on Mega Evolutions though.

Yes some Mario Parties are better than others but every single game in the series is a solid 10/10 as long as you have the right friends for it. What you rate the game is directly proportional to how fun your friends are to play with. You make the experience more than the game itself.

Bomberman is blatantly the most deserving character alongside Pac Man, Sonic and Mega Man for Smash 4. He fits in so perfectly with that group and makes so much sense as another retro yet recognisable cartoony character that I'm shocked he still isn't in.

Music is very very important in a game. I have trouble enjoying games that don't have music with a "melody". Probably one of the biggest reasons I've become a primarily Nintendo gamer, and back when I played N64 and PS1 equally my favourite genre on the PS1 were RPGs.

I have no idea how people even compare Sonic and Sega transformed to Mario Kart (especially 8). Yes Sonic is a functioning racer but the comparison boggles my mind and I wonder if these people are serious. Or maybe we are just starved of more variety in that style of racing games.

Agreed on both of these. Would love to see Pokemon hit that 1000 mark one day.

It's kinda hard to do a "Controversial" opinion without sounding like you're trolling.

Just back your opinions up with reasons that aren't condescending. Saying your don't RE4 because you think it has too much action compared to the old games is fine, meanwhile saying that it's a bad RE game isn't fine though.

Silent Protagonists are almost universally terrible. I think much less of game plots that can't write an established MC that can't interact naturally with the world, whether through dialogue or body language.

EarthBound - While lauded by many as a truly magical, emotional adventure it's actually really devoid of any real form of emotion whatsoever and is just a soulless slogfest that takes place in a zany world. Zero character development and an awful inventory system I had to pretty much force my way through it, while it has some redeeming qualities it's no where near enough to redeem it to even be worth the praise it gets half the time.

AC3 had a decent story, and the parallels between Connor and Desmond's experiences and choices were actually interesting. People hated Connor and preferred Haytham because they wanted another Ezio. It's a stronger game than Black Flag, which felt more like a soulless cash grab.

At least in my personal experience this isn't true. The reason I disliked Connor is because he was a flat character and his motivations didn't make sense. He was "fighting for justice" and all about doing the right thing, but then he'd kill tons of people, no questions asked. He spends the whole game trying to kill Charles Lee, and when he finds out who was really behind the attack on his home he STILL wants revenge on Lee, and lets the true culprit away with just a slap on the wrist. Meanwhile, Haytham knew what he was doing was morally reprehensible and he gave no fucks about it.

The battle system and gameplay in general is terrible in Earthbound

People really like the humor/characters/story aspect but I can't get down with a game that has bad gameplay.

I would rather play bubsy 3d than ff8 or ten and i cant decide which has the worse story between them. They are both so bad. Also, tomb raider 2013 is my favorite tomb raider and i am legitimately looking forward to playing lightning returns :)

Here's another and can be marked under Howard Hugh-esque

Aside from MMO's, I avoid nearly all multiplayer in games. Don't know why... just do. Anyone criticizing or praising a game on Multiplayer aspects just falls on deaf ears to me. If a game is completely Multiplayer, I have little desire to play it.

Last Gen was best console gen! (I have been playing since NES). This is even if the end of it started sucking as console gaming was getting a bit stuck on certain patterns.
