Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

No I think Capcom will think it is more valuable to have as much casual appeal as possible for the initial release. This is why I expect the rest of the green section is SF2 characters.

You have the casual appeal by already having some of the SF2 characters in the roster, which they've done already by giving us Chun, Bison and Cammy. You don't need 80% of the SF2 roster in the vanilla version to appeal to casuals. MKX, for example, only needs Scorpion and Sub-Zero and at least two of the other ninjas and they've pleased the casual audience. They then please the causal audience even more by having other ninja and trilogy characters as DLC. That's how SFV should do it; Give us some SF2 characters then give us a few more with DLC. You please the casuals at launch and you please the casuals at DLC.

I feel like this fanbase relies on the SF2 characters far, far too much.

i hope Alex makes it in.i consider him to have the coolest design in all of street fighter
Street-Fighter-III-Alex.jpg

storyline wise, isn't he considered like the "Chosen One" or something of the street fighter universe..in SF 3 if i remember right the fighting tournament was pretty much just a test for Alex by Gill to see if he was worthy or something?

SF2's entire cast has been in 2, Alpha 3, and 4. There's no reason to fill those remaining three slots with more SF2 characters when they have a bunch of other characters in the wings who haven't seen a fraction of the exposure of SF2. They already fill about a third of the cast, a few more won't appreciably increase "casual appeal" more than it already has.

Alex was basically the new Ryu in SF3. He was the game's protagonist and several of NG, 2I and 3S's plot points were revolved him and usually Gill and Ryu. Before fan backlash forced Capcom to put Ryu and Ken in NG, Alex was intended to be the series new hero and effectivley replace Ryu.

Plus I think people would pay more for their SF4 mains back, than obscure characters from SF3 and SFA series (or EX or other games). So it makes me worry that if certain characters don't get in the initial roster, they won't get in at all...

I reeeally hope that the "I will be back" banner he had in X Tekken wasnt for nothing. My favorite character as well and having him in the roster would make my decision to buy the game alot easier.

Was there actually fan backlash? I was under the impression that they anticipated leaving them out would not go over well and put Ryu and Ken pre-release in despite thier original plan.

Very, very strong possibility. Several polls about fan popularity have had Alex at either number 1 or in the top 5 and I believe Capcom are aware of them. Like I said, very strong possibility.

they would probably make Alex a rival of Birdie in V...as they are both wrestlers

I actually completely forgot about that billboard. That on top of other stuff really adds to Alex's chances. It's way too foreboding to be a harmless easter egg. The billboard is also in Ultra Street Fighter 4 as well in the skate ramp arena.

Alex being a chosen one is just plain bizarre. All we know about him is he's some brah from brooklyn who would boot your face if you so much as look at him funny or make fun of his accent. Also he's a wrestler and had an Michael Jackson voice in 2I :V

I'm not sure honestly. I heard that there were previews and rumours that Ryu and Ken were absent from NG and that Alex was the new protagonist and fans apparently went off it to the point that Capcom put them in to stop the backlash.

I don't know if it's true though it's just something I read on this thread a few dozen pages back.

They also had a Bison Dolls billboard, so Juli and Juni confirmed in SF5!

im not 100 percent sure about the whole "Chosen One" thing but i just remember that the tournament if SF 3 was just Gill testing Alex for the new promise land or something like that

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWcjRmWhNZw heres the ending of third strike with Gill, Alex and all the other fighters

I know you're joking but I wouldn't mind that at all, although Decapre has soured me on dolls.

I think the Chosen One thing was down to Alex being Gill's chosen one or something like that. Alex is the one that Gill wants by his side the most so Alex is his 'Chosen One'.

"You can't escape!!"

Anyway. Pretty sure Alex went after Gill in revenge for Tom and became a part of his greater plan. Gill was pretty much Street Fighter Messiah/Jedah.

Introducing a divine plan for a new world only for the strong.

Dunno if he will make it; Ken already stole the "blonde with bangs to the side of the head" look.

Doubt Alex will make it in the initial roster

We already have Ken with the same hairstyle. As well as more blondes such as Cammy, Charlie, Birdie.

We also already have 2 grapplers. Necalli and Birdie.

Finally Ken and Charlie are enough US characters. We don't need another. We need more diversity in nationalities.

But it's America

I can't fucking even with this post. Knowing you're serious is making it even worse. You're really reaching far and wide to bullshit reasons why Alex won't make it in SFV.

Lol well I still think Alex won't make it in the main reason is if they put in another grappler it's likely a close range slow grappler like Zangief.

Whatever dude. Your strange desire for SFV to become Ultra SF4.2 is something I just don't agree with at all. I'm just going to leave it at that and move on.

Street Fighter IV launched with Ken, Guile, Balrog, Viper, and Rufus. A third American in SFV would be far from overkill.
They were relaunching the brand from death at that point- hence the heavy US count as its their biggest market. They have no such needs this time- but yeah, 3 would be fine.

I've never seen a poster reach as hard to justify the exclusion of SF3 characters.

Exciting new playstyles and characters were what made SF3 fun. The entire cast of SF2 shoehorned in every other title is what makes them hackneyed.

By this logic, wouldn't putting 3S characters into V be the opposite of "exciting new playstyles", and in fact, shoehorning them into a new game?

Not really seeing as 80% of 3S characters haven't been seen since the 90s (with many having unique playstyles and moves) yet ALL of SF2's sameold roster was in SF4. The SF2 cast are shoehorned more than any SF game's roster. At this point adding old 3S characters not in 4 would be new and exciting playstyles.
