Launch will probably have issues because of the number of people attempting to connect online where as the issue here seems to be something else entirely.

Well they've already said that the beta is going to be the full 5 days once stable, so if we're still having these issues when they announce that it's fully live, then there's bigger problems. I've just gone through this myself at work when dealing with 1.5 million users, except we had a massive budget and could bring more servers online at will... but the code didn't like it and we had to do exactly what Capcom are doing with this. They're taking the right approach to a major error in their code and hopefully it should serve them well.
The other parts of it being a pre-order in one region and the whitelisting are classic Capcom though.

I don't know if there's a whitelist. Once I got in, it feels like I'm in. A friend of mine is in too and has been in for a while now. It seems like once you get in, that's it.

Have status updates in the title screen (i.e. servers offline, servers full, maintenance).
That said I did get a bunch of practice today with bison. His V-Trigger has some unique properties when it comes to the C.MP combos. C.MP xx MP.Psycho Inferno works but C.MP xx MK.Scissor Kicks doesn't (LK.Scissors works in V-trigger).
Jump in HP (HK or MK), C.MP xx MP Psycho Inferno, SUPER (SOOO much damage).
