Street Fighter V Beta Thread: Welcome, future '16ers! (Currently Inactive!)

Damn right. I can be eloquent and polite about it, but fuck it. This is genuine, grade A, bullshit.

Capcom wants needs us to buy their game. We don't owe them shit. If they want us to buy SFV that bad, they are doing a terrible job at convincing us we should. They should be killing themselves, breaking their backs and should have stopped at nothing to make sure this worked. We should be criticizing the game's balance, performance and visuals, not being livid about seeing nothing but a goddamn title screen for two days straight.

I'm not livid. I, as well as many others, knew that this was a network test beta. The main point was to stress and improve the new network for the game, so that when it comes out and in the following betas we Can criticize gameplay and visuals.

The salt from finding out you're unimportant :D . Either way, I would like to congratulate Max for his 16k viewers. And all dem matches.

Edit: lol @ people being salty about Max.

"hey guys, I dislike maximillian, look at my edge"

you're dumb if you can't understand why white lists are bullshit in the context of this broken joke of a beta and the laughable communication surrounding it.
yes, im fucking mad at a shitty stupid capcom beta idc

Max is the only fgc streamer who I like watching. And he's not the only person supposedly getting whitrlisted, so I don't know why only he's getting dumped on here.

I don't think it's anything personal with him or any of the others, just frustration at the current status of it.

are they fucking serious with this shit? are they are just pretending it's working?

This is unfortunate. I think they really are going to pull the "After a rough start, our beta was up and running this weekend. Hope you enjoyed it! Though SOME players were still having problems, we think this weekend was a big success. Thanks!"

And Max with his constant "It's working great for me...and a bunch of other people too!" feels like we're getting gamed. As in, Peter told Max to keep saying it was working so that capcom could get out of this weekend without having to spend any real money to fix this during the beta outing.

And I know I sound crazy but, when I see servers are going up at 5PM, Max get in at 4:55, and his first match is with Peter...something has to be up.

A PR person. Which is more or less what combofiend is in this instance.

It's bullshit, don't get me wrong, but I'm not surprised.
It's better in my mind to just apologize and vaguely say you're working on helping these people out. Don't make up some stupid solution that we've tried a dozen times.

honestly they should of never let amazon give away beta keys knowing people can just cancel the pre-order they might as well made this a open beta or called it what it really is a alpha .....

For the record he's talking about people who are in, but aren't getting matches so are stuck in training mode. He's saying back out to the main menu (i.e. back out and re-enter Network Play) to see if it starts picking up matches.

If you guys think a white list or special treatment or whatever is acceptable...then why isn't capcom upfront about it?

Like, how come one of those updates isn't about how they're going to give Max, Sabin, etc, a golden ticket to give extra publicity?

Basically, what I'm saying is why is trickster doing combofiend's job for him?

Pre-alpha at best. What comes before a pre-alpha? It would probably be that.

Not every streamer is getting special treatment. VesperArcade (the guy who made all of those SFV analysis videos) still can't get in.

Yeah I can live without the beta. I gave up the first day. But I don't like this.

I'm dumb then. Because how I see it, letting a handful of streamers get access, at the cost of a handful of random people, is by far the better option.

Might be that I live in europe, so while the americans are sitting in here being salty as fuck that they're not getting in atm, I'm sitting here with not even the possibility of trying to get in. So I'm just happy that I can at least watch a stream with decent quality. While the beta isn't working properly.

Oh no, people have a different opinion, better attack them

Just as applicable to the guy that felt the need to make a mocking post of mine.

Whitelisting players while most struggle to get into the beta. Classy move Capcom. Preorder cancelled. I've lost all faith in the final product working smoothly day 1. Should have had Sony foot the bill for more servers and less on Onos wardrobe.

How is Max not whitelisted? He fought combofiend lol. This beta would've been working day one if this was multi platform on the Xbox One. Sony has been having psn problems all summer so I doub they could help

Vesper, unfortunately was #14, just outside of the top 10 requirement to get all access no hassle game play.

well, you'd be salty if you had the possibility of getting in and couldn't.

It's ok if you like max's stream. Everyone needs to a feel a part of something, I guess. Some people like watching guys get hype for donations and subs.

Lol I don't want Max to get disconnected or anything. Actually I'm glad he's able to play since more people get to watch the game. It'd be nice if they were upfront about it though since it's somewhat obvious. I'm probably having as much fun reading this thread as I'd be having if I were able to play the Beta, so I guess I'm good.

Damn. I was hoping he'd get some time with the game. I saw one of his breakdowns of the original SFV trailer. He somehow got around an hour of stuff to talk about from roughly a few minutes of footage. He got my subscription that instant.

Surely, surely Capcom must have known that a beta for SFV, of all games, was going to be rammo, especially with how easy it was to get one in the US. I really, really want to be understanding but here in the UK its Sunday now and I've only got to play the game for 15 minutes, and that was on Friday afternoon.

They should have been far more prepared than this. And the communications has been atrocious.

-sigh- I think I'm just going to give up until the next beta. Maybe by then things will have worked out. Love ya Max but I just want to play the game myself.

has max even commented on him getting in so easily? at least acknowledge that hes been 'lucky' ive been his stream for the last hour and ether hes totally oblivious to the problems or isnt bringing it up because he does have some 'back door' or on a 'white list' ive asked him like 20 times in chat and he just ignores it... unless he has like 5 PS4s constantly trying to connect something is fishy

The notion that this is a beta test intended to stress test Capcom's servers gets thrown out the window if Capcom is bending over backwards to let specific people in in the name of marketing.

They can't have their cake and eat it too. If there's a whitelist, Capcom either is purely running a beta but making decisions counter intuitive to the process by playing favorites to people who make their game look good, or they're running a promotional preorder incentive, in which case letting Max in is understandable, but at the same time, all the shit they're catching for it being broken is deserved.

I was never part of a program when they were doing private beta testing way back when. I was only told about it from various internet websites and so forth. I remember when the 360 came out and you had FFXI's beta and then I believe GRAW had one. It's crazy how they've gone from being an industry trade secret or something you share with your gamers friends to what they are today. I even remember some PSP beta testing for a while, copies were sent out to a handful of people. Yes it does allow QA to be done on a much larger scale and companies don't necessarily have to hire a ton of beta testers. This is their shot at seeing how the public reacts. In my honest opinion Capcom has talent, lots of it, but they might not have the man power to do something like this and have it work perfectly. I think they are still a company made from the ground up and they have developers who have ambition, but technology is still technology. Networking has been huge for console developers for quite some time. I'd say MS and the people who run companies in the west have a much larger selection of network engineers and people throwing around P2P networks on the go. The western market has also been one that has concentrated on MP FPSs. Most major developing houses in the west probably have interns and experienced personnel with a background in networking. Capcom probably isn't out of the clear blue because this is a public beta. As a gamer I didn't think betas would do well as a selling point. It was always a technological gamble from the start. You're talking about a studio's project being played by the customer and the game isn't even finished yet. That's a huge gamble if you also include the sheer amount of criticism the public can have. I for one think some studios know they're going into a beta and have people who are use to it. The early builds are built around being something they can receive feedback for. There's a lot of artist in Japan and IMO the artist has more of a job than the technical side of things.

It's like how everyone wants to have a game designer's job, but they don't realize that a lot of the powerhouse game designers in the world grew around other aspects of game design while on their way up the ladder. I wish some game designers would write books or work on movies and you could also say the the network engineer may not know how to piece a story or make a character either. I'm not quite sure on how the process works, but we have generations of offline consoles and also games that have worked with way less technology. I expect SF as a whole is built without thinking how the netcode is going to work. I think that is just a major gamble because the game itself was created offline.

I've always viewed most public betas as glorified demos, that are merely polished vertical slices of the actual game. All real testing is done in house or with trusted, contracted QA agencies. Public betas can offer great insight on large scale network performance and game balancing, but typically, it's meant as a marketing tool.

This is clearly an issue with the servers and their capacity, or lack there of, not the game.

Reeeeeeeally not seeing a reason to get so mad about this. If I flipped my shit every time I couldn't squeeze into a stress test beta I don't know wtf I would do with my life. I'll wait for the next one and hope there will be local play.

I'm also not mad about making sure big streamers have access if that's even what's going on. I want the high level players to be testing this game every chance they can get.
